Austin, I have really come appreciate your channel. No gimmicks, rah rah horseplay, bashing of other makes or talking like an idiot and making up words. Just a real, honest guy putting classic mopars back on the road, in our hearts and back in a little bit of the spotlight. You seem like a great caretaker for these beauties... I have a 71 imperial four door hardtop, and a 75 imperial crown coupe going back together after paint. Thank you for your no nonsense approach without the jackass-ery like most of the rest of the idiots on TH-cam
Thanks for watching and the feedback. I’m just trying to be myself and share cool cars with emphasis on the “everyday” cars. Stuff that most people actually owned and drove back then. I love the Imperials. I’ve had a couple over the years. I’m about due for another one!
My grandmother had a 1963 Dodge 330 in turquoise with a white top four door sedan. She was minty fresh but finally sold it as I ran out of room, lol. I spotted it a few months ago driving up behind it one night. Surreal experience. It’s somewhere in Wilmington NC near the State Ports, my old neighborhood. Where abouts are you in NC?
I love your collection of obscure autos. Especially the treasure hunts when you go looking through the interior for the first time. 57 Ford was the boss
I have to admit I was absolutely shocked when you pulled the seat up and that most nest was there. Because that vehicle is absolutely showroom brand new. Mind blowing
Hi Austin. Yes. Spencer Gifts has a long history. It’s the same name. Eventually they sold gag gifts and whoppee cushions. 🤣🤣 My friend was their first computer inventory manager in Atlantic City. Nice car. Love Mopars. My favorite of all the family’s cars. 66 New Yorker. First 440.
71+ year old FUD here. There were a couple of nice treasurers, especially the owner’s manual. I have several road atlases going back almost to WWII. You can bet that the one you found was a Rand-McNally. They made a lot of those for a lot different insurance companies to put their names on to give to their customers. You can use old maps to see how the routes of roads have changed over the years. I’ll look forward to see what you do with the 880. Happy motoring!😊
This was fun video. It’s like the car was frozen in time with the 60’s kids’ toys and chewing gum wrappers still in the trash. How is that even possible? 😅 Here in Finland, I’ve seen only one of these in person, very rare here.
The size of the font used for the city indicates the population size of the city named. What you were looking at is the legend to tell you what size city is represented by the size font on the map.
Chrysler introduced the 880 to fill the void that was left when the intermediate line was made too small. This model has a Dodge front end clip with a Chrysler C body from the front doors to the rear bumper. I don’t know how you find these vintage Mopar gems.
1961 Dodge Polara body, front clip and trunk lid with 62 Chrysler quarter panels and taillights and a 61 Desoto dashboard. A major rush job to provide Dodge with a full size 1962 car. All 62 Chrysler Corp. senior cars were major rush jobs when the intended models were abruptly canceled
In 1962 I went with Dad to the local Dodge dealership to look at the "new" Dodge Custom 880. Dad decided it looked too much like his 58, especially in roof line and waited for the "more normal" Plymouth Fury coming out for 1963. It was quite a car with the Commando 361, which might have been the same engine in the 880?@@jamespn
That car is absolutely fabulous! It would be worth repairing even if it needed a new engine. I love the colors, same as your 62 Plymouth. Really looking forward to more on this one.
Hi Austin, great videos as usual. The thing that really gets missed are the rubber gaskets around the taillights and around the other stuff. It’s really hard to get them and or harder to duplicate them yourself. Take Care
We have the exact same car! Yours is the same year, color, - everything I seen is the exact car as my '62 880! Bought my 880 in Boston 3 years ago during the pandemic. Absolutely love these cars. Cheers! Thanks for sharing!
I had a 64 Dodge Custom 880 four-door hardtop 361 two barrel and it was one of best vehicles l have owned I subbed because I love these old Chrysler products and I wish you luck with getting the 880 running, it looks to be in good condition.
When enough longtime Dodge fleet car buyers rebelled, refusing to buy the new for 1962 reduced size B body models, Chrysler decided it had to do something quick. They did a pretty good job , rushed a “new” full size model , the 880 , into production - using the 1962 Chrysler Newport body , attaching the 1961 Dodge front sheet metal, installing the 1961 instrument panel .
Unbelievable that the trunk junk survived that long. Sometimes you might find one or 2 things but that was quite a treat. Love that car! And I enjoyed the video 👍
fun video. Cool to do some investigation. In my old beetle I have some old butts of cigarettes in the rear passenger ashtray. I kept them their for fun. You should definitely keep the old wrigleys wrappers there too!
Here in Texas in the 70s Spencer Gifts was where us teens got our Black lights and posters , fishnets in different colors to hang on our ceilings and gag gifts . My room was wallpapered in blacklight posters and the entire celling was fishnets that was filled with stuffed animals won from carnivals and empty beer cans .
61515, its a Wix 51515... same as a Fram PH-8a or a Baldwin B-2. Fits slant six to Hemi. Fram is trash, only use one's by Wix (even under Parts Master, NAPA, et cetera labels) or Baldwin. Cool cat, btw. Youngest kid got gifted a Maine Coon kitten that is 8 months old & 12 pounds, that cat reminds me of him
Found a 1920s sunday wall st journal once in a house underneath in margate, nj. Gave it to the owner. Since been torn down. Sad to see that is the norm in beach towns
I had a 1963 Dodge Custom 880 wagon years ago. Bought it for $85 from the original owner who was very old. It ran on 7 cylinders but made it all the way from Seattle to Texas ! lol
Im not sure what he ever did with it and sadly he is gone so i cant ask . He went off the freeway near wichita falls last september while on a motorcycle and ended up in a pond where they found him.
Wow, I didn't know you were also a Carolina boy. I always thought you were from the mid-west. Either way I really enjoy these style of videos. Keep it up!
Hahaha, man I remember when I was a of about 10 years old, PF Flyers and Converse All stars were the deal , if you were caught wearing anything except one of those brands, the kids in school would ride you bad.
I've been a Chrysler product fan for 60yrs. And the early 60's was not the styling icon period for Mopar. There was a reason for slower sales and one was you had to look at the cars and I think they failed terribly.
I agree. It goes beyond issues of personal preference - these cars from 60 through, what, 64(?) - were just butt ugly outside (although kinda space agey attractive inside). What on earth were the designers thinking?
I knew Chrysler used mostly a 62 Newport for this car. I did not realize the interior is identical other than the dash, Upholstery is the same as a Newport. From the dealer ad, the price was the same as a Newport post:$2964.
I definitely say something along the lines of “check it out the original build sheet” and that I might take it out later for safe keeping. But to answer the question that was a build sheet stuck in the springs of the back seat. Common place to find them.
if its the spencers gifts thats in malls it is however the items are alot different now. I knew it was there when I was a kid but didnt realize it was that old. Edit I just wiki it and apparently it is and has been around since 47. Crazy.

There’s several interesting things about this car that I’ll cover in the next video on it. The history, features, etc.

Speaking of the N Carolina map...When I was in 4th grade in the early '80's, the teacher asked what was the capital of N Carolina. I said Mount Pilot.
Atleast you didn’t say Mayberry!

Is that paper stuffed/tucked inside the bottom of the back seat a build/option/manufacture sheet?

2 mandatory items to be found under the seat of any old mopar are a comb and an ice scraper.
