In your video / videos covering the Dempster, would you say there was far less chance of getting hit with gravel from passing vehicles than the Dalton? In 16' we drove just our truck from Dawson City up the Demster to Tombstone (about 50 miles). The road was very nicely groomed. This time we plan to tow the RV trailer up to Tombstone. But, a couple we're with wants to go all the way to Tuktoyaktuk. Did you see any RV trailers (25' - 30') making the whole route? We both have ORV brand RV's with the MorRyde 3000 suspensions, but I'm more worried about how heavy they are. They are made for "some" off road...but when it rains, that gravel can get slippery.
Your advice is spot on for adventure road travel. Travelled the Dempster last July so know exactly what you are talking about. We are heading east this summer to tackle the Trans-Labrador highway to Newfoundland. The video is a good preparation tool for anyone wanting to travel these roads.
I live near the start of the Dempster. One thing southerners forget is that the land up here is all Permafrost, and rain does not soak into the ground like it does elsewhere. I have seen the Klondike river rise a full metre (3') after a good rain, as all the rain water just flows downhill to the lowest point. Which might be where you are camping! Flooding after big rains is very common up here.
Flood awareness is always important no matter where you travel. The desert can be just as dangerous as the tundra. Always best to er on the side of caution!
We have watched nearly all of your TH-cam videos and feel as if we personally know your family. My wife and have visited many of the USA spots you guys have and since we are in our late 70's we will pretend we are with you.

Double thumps up!! Very well said on travel safety and preparedness all the way through!! The best of all i like your car with tiny trailer!! Because your car is split from kitchen, fridge, extra engine fuels, water tanks, dining stuffs, screen tent, pop-up bed,etc., all being packed up into one tiny trailer!! This is much better than all makes into one big RV rig where some of them i see mostly accidentally engulfed by fire caused by fridge electrical circuits, blown up tires, propane leaks, etc. Your trailer van camper is best suitable in asian countries!! lots of great information. I did the Dalton in 2017, plan the Dempster in a few years. One thing I would add is SLOW DOWN! On the Dalton road conditions can change instantly with no warning. Most times we were 30 to 40 mph. The times I did go to 50, I was especially vigilant on scanning the road ahead. Like you said some times the paved sections are the worst, between the Arctic Circle and Coldfoot were the roughest pavement . At the end you did mention CB radios.That was our form of backup communications. Though limited range , with the abundance of trucks you should be able to get help if needed.

One point that I didnt hear: When people get in to anything they go straight to buying the shiny cool stuff. Roof top tents, 35" wheels & lifts, etc. For motorsports it's always more horse power or a bigger bikes (who wants to ride a 600cc bike when you can get a 1L bike?). Instead: spend money on training first. Learn how to drive offroad with your stock rig before upgrading it. Being able to get through obstacles on your 31" wheels will help keep you out of trouble when you throw on the 35" wheels. Learn how to perform recoveries safely (Justin King is a great channel to see this). There is so much cool stuff to learn (Joe Robinet is fun to watch for camping). This channel also teaches a lot of good stuff. Just thought I'd point this out b/c I'm just as guilty of wanting the shiny stuff too.

Everything in this list applies to remote area travel in Australia as well except for the bear spray and we need to carry a lot more fuel on board, oh and we worry more about two legged animal strikes. Great videos. Keep them coming.
I feel that my choice of a travel trailer, that we would secure at hosted campgrounds when going off-road, was a much more comfortable option for Alaska. You had to be tough when it rained most of August.

The ply can be deceiving these days. Some tires have thicker ply than others so a 10 ply might not be as strong as a lower ply with superior materials and thickness. That being said, the BFG KO2's are 10 ply on the tread and 3 ply on the sidewalls. We run load range E on the rig and load range C on the trailer.
A couple questions on the RTT. How is when putting away and redeploying multiple times when wet? does it tend to start soaking through and getting wet inside? Also, do you have condensation issues when you use the heater? I used a heater in the annex on my tent once, and within minutes the whole inside of the tent was wet. Of course it was 24*F, so maybe not so bad if it's a bit warmer. Thanks, and great videos! We are doing the Dalton this summer.

Yep, I spent a couple days writing the script to make sure the info was straight forward and concise. Some people dislike it, but your time is valuable (as is mine) so it's faster to have everything planned before filming. Editing a lot of umm, hmm, and pauses is time consuming and you always forget stuff when it's off the cuff! Glad you enjoyed it!

Rode the Dempster to Eagle Plains a decade ago....On a 1,000 lb Honda Goldwing motorcycle. Not bad, the Top of the World Highway was worse: Soft, deep gravel isn't fun on two wheels!

I'm glad you mentioned firearms for self defense. In regards to wildlife your one of the few. And I do agree it should be a last resort. How long did it take you to get your paperwork completed in regards to taking a firearms into Canada. Did you only take a shotgun into Canada and were you limited on ammo. Hey Brett, I always point folks to the RMCP website for that info because it's always changing. It was really simple for us, but another family had just the opposite experience. Has anyone had experience of taking the puncture repair kits on international flights, I understand that the co2 cyclinders are not allowed and might be tricky to find replacements in some out of the way locations.

Sorry to be something of a wet blanket. but I'll try to use warm water and will only grumble about the ham radio's. Now understand I am fully Licensed Advanced Class( Extra Class in the USA ) which may be the biggest reason I have a problem with most Overlanders getting a Amateur License. Well I would in fact encourage overlanders to become licensed, my strongest encouragement would be for them to get more then a simple NOVICE license. Once you have at least a General Class license you now have not only access to more then 70-80% of the HF bands, but also an increase in allowed power and long range communications. It is unbelievable that people can buy the best gear they can afford, but will trust their lives to a $200-300 VHF mono band radio. One does not have to be in remote places to find that being tied to a Repeater system and short range line of sight radios are a problem. Get your General Class License and use the privileges it gives you. Not just on an overland trip but as much as you can so that you are confident and proficient with the gear and modes.
You mention a premium puncture repair kit but I can’t find a link to it, I see lots of the cheep knock off but am interested in obtaining a quality one. Can you post link to it please.

Absolutely, no need to rush that adventure ;) The CB was very handy to have on the Dalton. Had some great conversations with the truckers too.

I'm glad you mentioned firearms for self defense. In regards to wildlife your one of the few. And I do agree it should be a last resort. How long did it take you to get your paperwork completed in regards to taking a firearms into Canada. Did you only take a shotgun into Canada and were you limited on ammo. Ps that was a very informative video. Planning on doin the same trip in next year. I'll be in a tundra trd pro and a 490 conqueror off run trailer. I least that's the plan got the tundra just saving the money for conqueror.
Hey Brett, I always point folks to the RMCP website for that info because it's always changing. It was really simple for us, but another family had just the opposite experience. It's up the to border agent to make the call and all of your paperwork and planning means nothing if they decide to turn you around. Just a heads up.

Has anyone had experience of taking the puncture repair kits on international flights, I understand that the co2 cyclinders are not allowed and might be tricky to find replacements in some out of the way locations.

Sorry to be something of a wet blanket. but I'll try to use warm water and will only grumble about the ham radio's. Now understand I am fully Licensed Advanced Class( Extra Class in the USA ) which may be the biggest reason I have a problem with most Overlanders getting a Amateur License. Well I would in fact encourage overlanders to become licensed, my strongest encouragement would be for them to get more then a simple NOVICE license. Once you have at least a General Class license you now have not only access to more then 70-80% of the HF bands, but also an increase in allowed power and long range communications. It is unbelievable that people can buy the best gear they can afford, but will trust their lives to a $200-300 VHF mono band radio. One does not have to be in remote places to find that being tied to a Repeater system and short range line of sight radios are a problem. Get your General Class License and use the privileges it gives you. Not just on an overland trip but as much as you can so that you are confident and proficient with the gear and modes.
