just some info (sorry to be a downer): chantecailles revenue in 2022 was more than 33 million. according to their website they have donated 3 million to charity since their founding in 1998. is we estimate that theyve made 80mil or so inrevenue over their lifetime, that leaves less than 3% of their revenue to charity. im sure their intentions are good but we're not going to solve climate change and animal extinction by consuming eyeshadow. to me that doesnt justify $70+ for a quad... id rather just buy an elf quad for $3 then donate the other $67 to charity directly. also, as someone whos worked in packaging design in cosmetics and skincare, i can guarantee that the cost of packaging on this is less than a few dollars. producing the product itself is probably also less than a few dollars per pan.
Definitely not a downer. Chantacaille is just way too expensive for what it all is, and you’re likely better off donating to conservation efforts directly.
As an illustrator and painter I hugely appreciate your artistic understanding and sense of color. The only way I can picture the lilac pink eyeshadow and the hot coral lip working on anyone is in a very editorial way: really fresh freckled skin, a juicy but not too bright cheek, a light wash of lilac on the lids, and the coral lip worn in and a bit diffused. Still would absolutely not need any of the Chantecaille products to achieve that though 🤷♀️
I can only picture using any of those colors by itself since they don't match with one another. I guess nobody at Chantecaille actually used all those colors at the same time on an actual face. If they would, they'd know those colors look clownish together.
I saw this too and Although it's founder Sylvie stayed on as a consultant, the products are coming out sooner and very different. I guess trying to appeal to younger ppl but not as good.
Love your hot take on Chantecaille and always appreciate your humor! That being said, I feel like their sunbeam compact in the shade “Ray” is special but I’m not sure I could pull it off. I have pale, fair skin, with cool skin tones & freckles & rosacea. I’d love your input, Kackie!! TIA!! ❤
It’s the packaging for me. 100% stock photos from Unsplash. I’m expecting a picture of the rarest flower on earth for it to be worth the price. Throw in a petal from the rare flower and I’m sitting pretty with my $78 freaking dollars.
I have a bit of a personal vendetta with Chantecaille. In the beginning of May 2021 I ordered their cushion foundation and it didn’t work for me. Then after an “”attempt””, I was in a coma for three weeks and almost died. Two weeks after the 30 day return policy, I tried it and I didn’t like it and wanted to return it. THEY WOULDN’T LET ME RETURN IT because it was two weeks outside the 30 days!?!? And I told them about being in a coma and the hospital and they basically just said that’s cute, no. I have refused to buy any Chantecaille since, also for all the reasons you’ve articulated, and I’m glad people are getting disenchanted with it because I’m petty 😌
I really appreciate every time you talk color theory for makeup. I always think I understand it because I'm good with color in my various crafting endeavors, but blending colors on skin is a whole other thing and I'm still trying to figure it all out.
I often hear comments from both creators and people in real life about how certain colours are loud - for the occasion, the season, the office etc. And it's true for them, I get it. However, as someone with high-contrasting features and a bright complexion with both yellow and pink undertones I can get away with very bright colours without them looking stark on me. So I always get this sinking feeling that something is wrong with me whenI end up not only approving a vibrant pink, red or coral, but actually craving it.
Yeah it's super subjective. I hope I portray that. It's really about a person's complexion AND their whole vibe. And often why I don't love something on me is why someone might love it on them. I always try to bear that in mind.
I completely agree! I have a cool completion with high contrast; my makeup, especially lip and cheek colors, when compared to my friends with more muted, low contrast coloring look bright and loud. However on me, they look at home and in-harmony, the muted colors they favor look lifeless and muddy on me.
Don’t feel bad @Biznis. Nothing you could possibly do with makeup would indicate something being wrong with you (or anyone else)! I don’t even know if I have a contrasting undertones but, when I have a particularly bad mental health day, the only thing that helps me get to work is to put really bright colors on my face (and I don’t care that we’re in the middle of winter). I think I look good in it and it definitely helps me get though the day 😊
Maybe “loud” isn’t the best choice of word but I think kackie was approaching it from a color theory stand point and I would understand it as yellow based lip colors like coral or watermelon look different/more muted when your entire complexion is illuminated by a lot of natural light.
I rarely wear foundation anymore so I decluttered all the ones I had... except for Blunder Cover. It's just that good. It will be my forever one-and-only.
Come in for your allergy shots …OMG I am laughing so much. Thank you. Thank you. Your videos are therapeutic and offer insights into make up and so much more ❤
I'm so happy you put this into the world, because this isn't good and respectful treatment of the customers. Also, troubleshooting Kackie is a pleasure to watch!
it honestly would have been so easy to just make the pink in the quad the same watermelon-y coral as the lip color. it would have been a statement that doesn't work with every undertone but at least it would have gone with itself and made sense and looked good on someone
Thank you for: - Your wonderful channel - Making me feel less alone in this world with thinking of Rockadoodle when this brand name comes up - Your hilarious rant on the packaging. When I first saw the stock photo flowers I thought "Oh, it looks like a really boring all-natural container of cream or something my eyes would skim over at Whole Foods" while everyone else talked about how pretty it was.
I'm confused by this release and no amount of YT videos is selling me on it. Perhaps worth a reminder is that Chantecaille a year or more ago was bought out by a very large German Consortium and this may have shifted product design, etc (bigger isn't always better 😜 Personally, they are placing an awful lot of stock in their name & aesthetic and sometimes they miss the mark. I enjoy the brand and definitely pick and choose pieces, but a quad at that price point has to have 4 colours I actually want to use and are cohesive. As you said, you do you, and if this is heaven in a collection then that is fantastic. I am grateful for your dose of reality and appreciate your honesty 🦋
Yeah I was looking into the acquisition and they positioned it as a "brand that would strengthen chantecaille's luxury skincare offering" and didn't mention much about the makeup. But it's disappointing because it's clearly the case that the makeup is less inspired.
I absolutely enjoy your saltiness, exp towards Chantecaille!! Loved this sooo much. As someone who is starting to upgrade my makeup game as an adult 😁, I appreciate your opinion.
I’m in the hospital recovering from surgery and just startled the nurse changing my IV when I burst out laughing at the stock allergy medicine photos comment. Thanks for the laughs! Also I am a sucker for beautiful luxurious packaging, but I feel like the last two collections from Chantecaille are just not giving and turns me off from wanting to buy it even if the product was incredible
I suppose everyone has an ideal eyeshadow quad. It's your four most used eyeshadows. Depot them into one palette and Bob's your uncle. Mine are (in descending order of visible pan) Natasha Denona Lodge, the bottom right shade from the Tom Ford Double Indemnity quad, the matte brown and the duochrome from the ND mini star palette. Anyway, while you're working on your thesis statement on quads, I would suggest checking out some Mary Greenwell tutorials, especially the Jessica Chastain and the princess Diana videos, on Lisa Eldridge's channel, as well as the "How to make up hooded eyes" video on Get the Gloss. She tends to use quads quite a lot and it's interesting to see how she approaches them, as the super experienced makeup artist she is (like seriously, she has been working for longer than either of us has been living)
I’ve always been disappointed with chantecaille’s lack of inclusivity. early on I thought their packaging was beautiful so I tried a few things, but I have been increasingly disappointed. I don’t think the quality is there and all of it just seems way too expensive for no reason! This collection in particular, thank you for reviewing it anyway, because I know this cost a fortune!
Never once I have lusted after a Chanecaille product. But I have this sick curiosity that causes me to watch reviews for it. I think I'm trying to figure out the appeal and get into it, but it just never works that way.
I’m with you on the search for the perfect quad. Not sure why. I own way too much eyeshadow for one human to use. I tend to just stay away from them at all costs now and I just buy palettes simply because I’ve been so disappointed by quads in the past. Hope you are having a great day!
I bought the black jaguar because it was pretty...in the pan. Underwhelming on the eyes and highway robbery for the price per gram. Angela Van Rose does a deep dive on how they actually only give something like $2 per palette to the charities. I don't buy them because of the philanthropic claims, but that and a few other purchases that were really no big shakes for the hype, feels like one more reason to not be a part of their fan club.
Thank you for mentioning this! They’re actually quite cheap when they choose to disclose the amount they donate. I’ve inquired about previous collections and they never responded to me about how much they actually were going to donate. Haven’t purchased them for a couple of years now.
I feel like I always learn more when I watch your videos - disappointed thst this was my first chantecaille purchase. It arrives today so we will see how I get along with it
This was such a money saver. Guerlain did a good job marrying pink and together in their majestic orchid quad I think. I def see the clash between what's happening on the lips and on the eyes, with the blush to not soften the blow. Maybe it'll be a cohesive look if only the quad is used on the face as shadow, blush, contour, with any cool toned nude. Hope Chanel hits it out of the park.
That lipstick is driving me crazy because I can't make it make sense in my head. Like, it is clearly a warm coral-y pink, but it's so bright and out of place that it read like a cool pink until you put on the eyeshadow! It's like an optical illusion. It's like putting really saturated contrasting stripes next to each other so they seem like they're wiggling. I don't know how it's happening!!!
A few years ago I had a faze where I was buying a bunch of coral makeup because I love the color. I love coral blush but as it seems a little like you, any coral lip products turn a weird neon pink on me. But maybe like in the summer?
I think you can pull that watermelon lip off, just with a simpler eye, maybe even just with mascara and classy not too dark sunglasses in a thin frame. The lippie gives a summery beachy vibe. It does not look strange on you.
This is one of so many products (makeup and not) that you really wonder, did ANYONE try this out before it was released? Anyone? Even one person from the company? Rough choices for the price 🧐
When you said "alright........... now we're going to put on this lipstick." I got chills. Fr, I was like "Here we go! This is it!" I'm also from the south and can picture said little old ladies in said lipstick. They really can pull off a gorgeous punchy-coral. Edit: I like the lipstick on you. It's not clown mode bright to me. I mean, it's bright but not too much honestly. I get what you mean because I'd feel the same as you if I wore it but it's cute.
I bought the spring “butterfly” capsule, so I’m familiar with Chantecaille formulas. When I first saw this release, I made a face. The pink in the quad clearly clashes with the blush and lips. Plus, it’s soooo cool that it’s not going to really look good on most people.
Low key love when the vid is all sassy shade. They needed to hear it though! I thought the same thing when I saw the collection..immediately..from the packaging to the color story. And excluding the lip…somehow the eye look to me read bootleg walmart isamaya wild star with all the pink
Hi kackie I love how u describe color theory in your videos. I always get a different kind of experience watching your videos. They stand out to me and not muddied in with the average makeup youtube influencer. Thanks for that!! 🤩💗💯🌟👍
If you like the color story, get PMG ritualistic rose quad. Chantecaille is mostly a pass for me in the last year or two. I really used to enjoy their product but they have done nothing special in a while.
I agree with you on so many levels about the packaging, value, colour story of the whole collection BUT I am also not mad at the finished the look and I have so many ideas on how I would make this palette work BECAUSE it doesn’t make sense. Like this is precisely what inspires me to do something a bit differently (but then I do my makeup very differently to you, I don’t care about flattering shapes and shades) I just go for it and my face can pull it off, all of it (literally)! Decaying like complexion, murky hollow eyes, brights and pastels, you name it 😂 So I’m happy to see such “respected” brand that invites their mature audience to experiment and maybe smear some pink lavender all over their eyes for no reason, it’s allergy season let’s embrace it 😅
If someone gifted this quad to me (not spending that amount of $$$) I would use the pink in my crease, brown to deepen outer corner, shimmer on lid and light gold inner corner highlight. I do agree as a capsule collecrion it doesn't work with the blush and lip colors.
Well, I love Chantecaille and find their quality to be outstanding. I have had superb experiences with their customer service as well. I only wish they had more matte and satin eyeshadows instead of the shimmery shades
Haha, laughed so hard when you put on that lipstick, this was just wonderful! I can't imagine using all the four eyeshadows together on the eye. I would use the taupe with the pink and the gold with the brown. But what to do with the blusher and lipstick? Not usable together as well. No, this is not a capsule at all. And yes, stock photo vibes. This packaging is not pleasing to the eye. For me it is not about the pricing as I do not buy a lot of makeup. But this capsule makes no sense.
Im with you on the eye shadows quads generally being only half good. Their eye duos however are off the charts. It’s the lip veil and lip chics that I love the most from Chanticaille , they are my favorite lip stick/balms. Consistency across types of product is just not there. And that’s why I like watching reviews….. until you put the blush on your eyes I couldnt see on my screen that the eyes and blush were in conflict. I think a different lip chic color might pull the look together better.
Let's be VERY clear and understanding on the fact that Chantecaille do NOT make charitable donations - WE DO!! The over-inflated prices WE pay for their products, are costed as such to include a very decent profit AND the donation. It's disgusting and deceiving. The profits they make are NEVER adversely affected by these "donations". Furthermore, these donations can and will be written off in the next tax form. Nice going Chantecaille 👌
If you want to splurge on make-up items, just buy Chanel, Dior, Tom Ford, YSL, Guerlain, Givenchy, Lancôme, Gucci, Sisley, Valentino, Armani, Hermès or Louboutin. At least with those brands you get not only high quality and well researched products, but also luxurious and unique packaging that will add value to the experience of using the products. The only item I like is the lip cheat. The color looks great.
To me nothing theyve done lives up to the holiday collection in the pearl packaging. That blush colour and formula was it! And id happily over pay to get it again 🤣
Yeah, when you set the price point that high, if it isn't perfect it doesn't cut it. I feel like the color editing on this quad was a massive fail. I can't think of a single indie or drugstore brand that would come out with a pastel yellow gold and a cool toned pink in the same quad, next to each other as if they go together. Also yeah, that shade of pink is very old lady...It reminds me of clinique blush from the 80s that you'd get free when you bought skincare.
The pink really clashes with all the other warm tones 😂 I've become more choosey with what I buy from Chantecaille. Their colour stories are pretty basic and I have to remind myself to not get caught up in the hype of their packaging.
I think the blue pink sounds like there’s holiday collection les pearles blush called akoya. Did they just grab a older release and use it for his palette? Without looking at it to see if it really pink? I love that blush but I would never buy it in this context. No hand placed pearls, no reviews show it lavender pink color, no cool tone pearlescent capsule collection, and at full price.
Omg the stock-photo-allergy-pics shade got me laughing so hard! I agree - I've seen Chantecaille use photos on their packaging before and it has struck me the same way!!! Not my vibe.
After they were BOUGHT OUT, things have changed for the worse. Sylvie the founder stayed on as a consultant but even the packaging started to look cheap with the plastic summer collection. I still love the complexion products like the cushion and tinted moisturizer and the mascara. But in the future, I will becareful of purchases.
What’s so strange, is the palette is designed for a pretty neutral? very pale complexion + a pop of yellow gold? Then the lipstick is designed perfectly for a medium olive or medium warm. It would be great if they tried to do palettes and comparable lipsticks for a myriad of shades that would make way more sense. At least three!!! Isn’t that we were are owed in 2023?
I’m sorry, what?! There are people who don’t mind glitter from their lipgloss crunching in their teeth? My brain does not process that. I could never use a product like that but you go Hannah. 😂
So, I love the Future Dew, I love Ray, I love the Lip Veil...but it's hard to enjoy them as much as I could because I'm never not thinking about how much they cost. It just feels unjustifiable for the quality, the amount of actual product, the lack of a freaking pump on the Future Dew (!!). If it was proportionally better than Dior or McGrath or whoever, then that would feel like a reasonable choice to be weighing up. As it is, I dunno, it feels less like treating myself and more like being a bit wasteful with my resources. :/
Agreed and I stopped buying the products last year. Waiting to see what happens and believe the company acquisition by Beiersdorf last year may have affected the products.
I feel like everyone is jumping on the Dior Rosy Glow pink train. Just toss it in and hope for the best!!! Looking at you, new Natasha Denona Love Face Palette 😮
@@kackie I bought my ten yr old the Glamlite X Strawberry Shortcake collection for Xmas and that shade showed up in the blush! It’s almost an exact dupe for the Dior pink Rosy Glow. Very soft in texture and the same shade when swatched. Crazy!
While I don't necessarily need to analyze my makeup as deeply - I apply whatever colour eyeshadow I feel like wearing and I wear it with confidence just because I love it - I am definitely not in the market for this horrendous quad.
That thumbnail 🤣. I am not getting excited about Chantecaille beauty products these days as I used to in the past. You are right, I don’t get the hype about packaging on this collection. Their packaging 2 years ago with manta ray etc, that was awesome. I still have them, use them. Now a days they are just robbing people straight up
I thought you loved the future skin gel. I use it all the time just wish it were in a different kind of container. Have you found something better? I missed something.
I believe it was in her declutter video that she mentioned that she's obsessed with the Chanel sublimage le teint now and that she'd never reach for the future skin over the Chanel, so she decluttered it.
The Chantecaille mascara smells like it has an entire bottle of perfume in it, and it doesn't dissipate! On top of that it doesn't do anything amazing that justifies the insane price tag. It is sad that since they were sold more and more of their releases are just not hitting the mark because they used to have consistently high quality releases.
Previous lover of this brand…WtF happened to them? The large pan eye and cheek colors ❤ between the prices and questionable formulas…it has to really wow me for me to buy. But do love the mascara!
Useful review. I saw the palette available in Douglas and i am really tempted. But the price tag is so high and after seeing some reviews i think it will be a pass from me

Chantecaille was purchased by a large conglomerate (during the pandemic I believe) and since then, new collections have been more miss than hit.
I totally agree
Yep and what they donate is a joke compared to their prices.
Agreed

You would think they could hire actual artists to create exclusive imagery for their packaging to give a very curated look

🤣
Hi Kackie, thanks for the video, like your hunnesty and how you bring the video's.Just love it.A great week.
Exactly!! Omg yes. I feel understood because I felt like I just said "THEY DONT GO TOGETHER" over and over 😂
A random pop of pink in an eyeshadow palette has become the new random pop of blue in a palette of 10 years ago.
I can't imagine paying $80 for the four tiniest shadow pans I've seen outside of a kids pallet.
When you were discussing the $78 for the palette I was definitely hearing “doll-aaiirs” 🤣
Doll hairs 💸😂
This is one of so many products (makeup and not) that you really wonder, did ANYONE try this out before it was released? Anyone? Even one person from the company? Rough choices for the price 🧐
When you said "alright........... now we're going to put on this lipstick." I got chills. Fr, I was like "Here we go! This is it!"
I'm also from the south and can picture said little old ladies in said lipstick. They really can pull off a gorgeous punchy-coral.
Edit: I like the lipstick on you. It's not clown mode bright to me. I mean, it's bright but not too much honestly. I get what you mean because I'd feel the same as you if I wore it but it's cute.
The packaging reminds me of flower seed packet packaging from Walmart 👀
I bought the spring “butterfly” capsule, so I’m familiar with Chantecaille formulas. When I first saw this release, I made a face. The pink in the quad clearly clashes with the blush and lips. Plus, it’s soooo cool that it’s not going to really look good on most people.
I will not stand for Rock a doodle slander! That No Batteries song is iconic.
Decaying like complexion, murky hollow eyes, brights and pastels, you name it 😂 So I’m happy to see such “respected” brand that invites their mature audience to experiment and maybe smear some pink lavender all over their eyes for no reason, it’s allergy season let’s embrace it 😅
omg i love your instagram account, i have been following you for a really long time! cool to see you here!
If someone gifted this quad to me (not spending that amount of $$$) I would use the pink in my crease, brown to deepen outer corner, shimmer on lid and light gold inner corner highlight. I do agree as a capsule collecrion it doesn't work with the blush and lip colors.
I appreciate your Rockadoodle reference 😂
I bought this quad only for the pink - it looks phenomenal on me on its own.
I lost it at the stock photos at the allergist clinic
LOLOLOL "hey come on in for your allergy shots" 😂😂😂 so good
Well, I love Chantecaille and find their quality to be outstanding.
Just found your channel. Great video. I'm going to watch some of your other videos now.

Ooof hahahahhaa no lies detected 😂
I’d love to know what your perfect quad would be if you could pick shades from different palettes!
I appreciate your ability to work a "sparkle motion" reference into this. 💯
I cannot believe you just made a Rockadoodle reference. You are my hero. (That movie *is* awful, but wow. What a moment in time.)
HAHAHAHA
What’s so strange, is the palette is designed for a pretty neutral? very pale complexion + a pop of yellow gold? Then the lipstick is designed perfectly for a medium olive or medium warm. It would be great if they tried to do palettes and comparable lipsticks for a myriad of shades that would make way more sense. At least three!!! Isn’t that we were are owed in 2023?
I swatches Chantecaille in a store and couldn’t see anything on my skin. It was just ridiculous and I’m a pale olive. No thank you.
Yeah. This is great info thank you ❤
Yes! None of the colors translate for me also an olive! ❤
I’m olive skinned and both blushes show up plenty and the two colours are really very different from one another
The only chantecaille palette that I'm obsessed with is my giraffe palette.
That pink throws the whole look off too cool for everything else
Bring on the salt! Honesty is important when reviewing ridiculously priced makeup! Love it!
I starred at my screen for 5 minutes trying to tell myself it’s not that bad. But I’ve come to the conclusion. That’s the collection is that bad.
The lipstick might work with a softer cheek color. 😮
The way you just sort of sunk into yourself when you added the blush to the eye look… 😂😂😂
all I can see is your makeup matching your backdrop (which I love)
😅
I feel like everyone is jumping on the Dior Rosy Glow pink train. Just toss it in and hope for the best!!! Looking at you, new Natasha Denona Love Face Palette 😮
Yeah we're really jumping the shark
@@kackie 🦈🦈🦈 No! Bad, stop it! 😁
@@kackie I bought my ten yr old the Glamlite X Strawberry Shortcake collection for Xmas and that shade showed up in the blush! It’s almost an exact dupe for the Dior pink Rosy Glow. Very soft in texture and the same shade when swatched. Crazy!
While I don't necessarily need to analyze my makeup as deeply - I apply whatever colour eyeshadow I feel like wearing and I wear it with confidence just because I love it - I am definitely not in the market for this horrendous quad.
i'm enjoying your benoit blanc cosplay in this vid
That thumbnail 🤣. I am not getting excited about Chantecaille beauty products these days as I used to in the past. You are right, I don’t get the hype about packaging on this collection. Their packaging 2 years ago with manta ray etc, that was awesome. I still have them, use them. Now a days they are just robbing people straight up
I love the browns and nothing else.
Hi Kackie! Loved you blogs, did you take them down? I noticed my refund for the membership. Love your channel!

Did you ever try their mascara? Thoughts on it- worth the price? Ty❤
