I have automatic update set to off. As a retired computer professional, I never update anything automatically. ANYTHING. EVER. You’re asking for trouble if you don’t do at least basic research first. Sure, most of the time, nothing bad will happen. But most devices nowadays don’t allow you to undo an update. Once you’ve done it, there’s no going back. Especially when dealing with a company like Apple, which refuses to list any changes, and specifically assumes no responsibility for anything bad that happens. As they say, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”
To inform people who are more likely to see his youtube video than to look upp patch notes, for a patch they may see and wonder if they should install it or not.
Auto Update has never worked for me and I've had tvOS since 2021 on 3 TV's. I do appreciate the Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision features as they mate well with my VIZIO 65" (M65Q6-L4) Quantum 4K QLED TV and M-Series (M51a) Soundbar system. My other two tvOS are connected to a VIZIO 42" (E420i-B0) LED Smart TV and a LG 55" (55UJ6300) 4K UHD HDR Smart LED. 4K upscaling is the other great feature I'm getting from it on one 65" and 55" units. The other 65" VIZIO (M65Q6-J09) Quantum 4K HDR Smart TV in my Retreat is connected to a Spectrum Cable Box that doesn't upscale to 4K. So I plan to remedy that soon by switching it to tvOS. As for the tvOS 17.5 update itself there isn't any thing new just more stability and minor fixes.
Automatic Update works fine for me. I find that it doesn’t always update the day that Apple releases the update. When my Apple TV doesn’t update on the day the new version of tvOS drops, it usually updates within 2 to 3 days.
For the record, I have my Apple TV 4K set to never update manually and Apple has done something very manipulative for people like me who don't want automatic updates. There is no "decline" button or similar buttons. There is Update Now, Update Later & Update and turn on Automatic Updates. So if you go with Later as I tend to do, the prompt to update will just proceed to pop up randomly until you break and just update the software. By randomly, I literally mean if I'm watching a movie, a TV show, playing a game. I'd sorta like to switch to Roku or Google TV but I reckon they are all one in the same. Maybe my last resort would be to build myself a Linux TV machine and use that for content.
It's weird as I would tend to agree with @Menace-zz7dp and not use the automatic update feature on most of my tech, but for some reason the AppleTV I had the feature enabled. Quik Sand TV seems to be annoyed, in general, I think bug fixes and improvements are always a worthy reason to update. I will probably be disabling this feature to mitigate any potential bugs created by fixing others. Anyway, I like these types of videos and hope the creator has a good day. ;)
Same here I've had 3 Atv-4k and nope the auto update has never worked, lols...you can change the Format to 4k-hdr (I have dolby vision Always on & watch SDR) as it's not like it used to be having to have sdr on, it's changed quite a while ago
I have apple tv 4k, the last update changed something and it felt slow and it stuck and hangs sometimes. I have vowed not to install any updates from this fking company. the only improvement they provide is break your features one by one. I 100% believe they will release a new updated 4k tv shortly. Never update if something is not broken from this company and your product will run smoothly for years.
Hi, the automatic update feature has never worked for me either. I have two questions. Do you find material that you view via the Apple TV 4K, different than when viewing the same material through the LG built in apps? Mine seems to be better through the LG apps than through the Apple TV. I noticed that you HDMI output is set to RGB high. I have it set to YCbCr. Is there a reason for this? Thanks !
I had it set to upscaling to match content but since I noticed that I get a better image from SDR content, I turned it off. That is why I was asking about differences between the built in LG apps and the Apple Tv4k box images.
@@erick23d Not sure if your model LG is newer than mine (2017). I have it set to 4K HDR, 4.2.2 (Chroma) and Match Content (Range & Frame Rate). My LG does not support Dolby Vision which is the tvOS default model for upscaling.

Never had an issue with auto-update. Have 2 4k's and an original HD.
Why would you even upload a vid if there is nothing to report?

just checked the update, it was set to auto and I was already up to date (17.6.1)
You’re right brother. The auto update feature has never worked for me. I always update manually although mine is set to auto update.

HDMI CEC delay and sync issues that were introduced in 17.4 were fixed in 17.5. Thankfully.

Thanks for the video! I'm glad I’m not the only one that is infuriated not to get a message to update.
Maybe “you” have had an issue with auto update to say it never works is blanking mis-leading. I have only had a couple issues.
My unit(s) seem to update automatically without issue.

Just another example of the fact that even though the Apple ecosystem is so awesome, it’s not perfect.
Thanks you for this, you are the few who post updates for Apple TV 🙏🙏
Yay. But mine is stuck in a boot loop!!

My HomePod completely stopped connecting during 17.4 and 17.5 fixed it.
What if you have Android? I can not log into Apple TV on Android Plus on my laptop. But not in my Android Smartphone.
My auto updates always seem to work
Hi Quick Sand, what is your sharpness set to when gaming?

Hi I would love your reasoning for this as well?
I guess it depends on what settings you have configured on tvOS. Does your LG upscale to 4K for non-4K material?
I had it set to upscaling to match content but since I noticed that I get a better image from SDR content, I turned it off.

What's the value of this vid?
The .1 updates are never major updates.
So much negativity 🤣
Your audio quality is the worst!
