I used this method, and for this first time, my husband actually liked the steak I cooked. Lol. He liked it so much, he keeps asking for me to make it again, which he has never done. Thank you!
Three years…I’m a little late to the party. This was the best Tri Tip method I have ever used. After the Kosher salt, I rubbed in some dry thyme and then my coarse black pepper. I was a bit skeptical about such a low oven temp, but my cut of meat hit 135* in about 35 min. The searing was quick and made a wonderful finish to the surface of my roast. This is the best Tri Tip I have ever served. Thank you. I will explore more of your videos.
I used this method about 3 weeks ago and my sons went mad over it. They demanded that I made another one for tonights dinner. This has become our go to cooking method. My family thanks you.
I just made your recipe for dinner…..all last minute and it turned out sooo delicious….thank you for making up my busy day into a pleasant family dinner…can’t wait to make it again. God bless you
It's Sept 2022 now. Last Christmas family was here. Had a SCRUMPTIOUS rib roast! This year all will be gone to spouses fsmilies, so just hubs and I to cook for. A few weeks ago I saw vacuum packed tri tip at my grocery store. I've never cooked one. Checked youtube sites and I wanted to do it just like you cooked yours. One little difference. I'm going to finish mine outside on the charcoal grill.
This is the best recipe for tri-tip...since trying it I have never gone back to my old tri tip recipes! "Since I have just started cooking recently and do not have an outside grill, I am always looking for easy recipes that taste great and this recipe takes the cake. It not only meet my expectations but my picky friends as well. Thank you for this quick. easy recipe that comes out tender and flavorful every time!
You are welcome! And thank you so much for your comment! I try to make cooking as simple as possible so more people can enjoy homemade food like you and I now do! I really appreciate your support!
This is great for a tri tip. They can often be tough, but this sous vide method makes them tender, and works as well with any other cut, too. Tri Tip is actually a really tasty cut.
I've never heard of tri tip. I'm purchasing one this weekend and will cook it. I can hardly wait to cook it! I don't have a grill, so I needed to know how to do so on my stove & in my oven!!
Just last night, I didn’t want to mess up the stove top so I cooked the tri tip in the oven only. I cooked it at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes and it came out perfect. I took it out of the refrigerator 40 minutes before cooking. Just before putting it in the oven, I seasoned it well on all sides with Kosher salt. The tri tip I cooked was 1.5 pounds.
We followed your instructions & recipe on Friday evening. Your instructions and video are awesome. It was possibly the best beef we've ever made at home. Thank you!
Great!!! I am so glad your tri tip was a success! Thank you so much for taking the time to come back and comment! I really appreciate it! Happy holidays and all the best to you and your family!
An Old School Home. I always have problems with Tri-tip. im going to try your recipe looks so easy and so delicious thanks. your Accent is Beatiful Love from California.
Thank you for showing what temp and how long it takes in the beginning, can’t tell you how many other videos I skip around to find that info cause I don’t want to listen to them talk. Thank you for the easy info
Hi im late to the party, im a single dad and i appreciate easy recipes like this... i dont have no thermometer so im going to eye ball it, its the exact size like yours so hopefully it works...
@@Zyxz This is my amateur cook's opinion: There is something about bringing the internal temp up slowly that seems to yield a more tender and juicy result in the end. You get a more even cook from edge to edge as well. It is also much easier to control the final internal temperature vs cooking at regular heat (grilling, pan sear etc.) Before I started reverse searing, I would sear in a hot cast iron and put the whole thing in the oven after the flip to finish. Because the pan and oven were heated above the desired cook temperature, you had to time when you removed the steak, or the internal temp would continue to rise past your target. There are only a few degrees difference between medium rare and medium. The biggest problem I see people have with reverse sear is not finishing the meat on a hot enough cook surface. It really needs to be as hot as possible. In a pan I do 1 min per side and then 1 more min per side basting with butter. If you don't have a brown sizzling crust after this, the cooking vessel wasn't hot enough. It helps to have something like thick cast iron that will retain that initial temp after you throw the steak in. When I sear on the grill I pile the coals to one side, so they are an inch under the grill grate, red-hot. The second most important thing is to make sure you REALLY pat the meat dry before searing.
I was going to say that. I am not sure it would make a difference. Usually we sear meats first to lock in the juices. Since this is a really low temp cooking it may not matter. I am going to try it out.
My goodness just cooked my first try tip steak just said you had demoed I added a boil sweet potato and put that in the skillet with some fresh string beans that I just cut off the tips and oh my Goodness was the best ever Keto all the way I think I’m gonna be able to do this diet after all thank you again!

I am full from eating my dinner . Why am i hungry from just looking at your delicious looking steak? Thanks for showing this as I plan on giving it a go!
Looks delicious!! Have you ever broiled your tri tip at the end instead of searing it? If so, how did it turn out? What sides did you prepare with this meal?
Yes, I e done that. At the end in the oven, I switch it to broil on high and broil each side for 2 minutes. Here are my favorite side dishes th-cam.com/play/PLExtnhBai_NsaWLX-2Zrym_Ea-VU3L7TF.html Thank you for watching!!
Awesome video and definitely way better and more informative than the last video I watched. Easy prep and you are to the point. Love your accent. Going to try this tonight. I need one of those thermometers as well. Keep the videos coming
I always roast 3 1/2 pound tri-tip because I didn't know how to cook smaller tri-tip. Now I will buy smaller ones if they look good, and roast them your way. I love the flavor of tri-tip and also use itfor Chinese stir fry, removing the fat and slicing very thin.
I hope you enjoy the recipe - tri tip is one of my favorite cuts - I can use it as a main dish, toss it on salad, or with my eggs in the morning. Another good one is the skirt steak... Thank you for watching 😊😊
@@AnOldSchoolHome it worked out! It was a little more on the rare side than medium rare that I was looking for. So next time I assume leave it in the oven a little longer? Or the pan?

You forgot the most important part! You have to cut against the grain to get a more tender bite!! Other then that great video and it’s so easy anybody can make this. Also the cut of meat is very important. Kroger and supermarkets will be hard to find a good cut. Local butchers are the way to go

Good morning! Making this recipe tonight for a sirloin tri-tip I just bought. It looks so easy to do with results that are tender and juicy. Thanks for a great, easy to follow along with you recipe. Have a wonderful week. XO💗
Hello, I am no sure as we never make it well done. If you are near a grocery store, they should have simple $6-&7 meat thermometers. That would be the easiest way to make it well done. I’m sorry I couldn’t help.
Great video !! Live the way you cook it. Why is it everyone’s tri-tip is a long roll of meat. When I purchase its a big piece shaped like an r..? It’s all good but I often wonder.🤷🏻♀️
😂 Funny you said that... I just posted a picture on Facebook of my luggage saying “Completely packed 3 days prior to travel. If you need some OCD, I’ve got plenty of it” 😂 Thank you for watching 😊
No, you can start cooking it right away. You might have to cook it just a bit longer in the pan (the final step) because you are starting the meat at a lower temperature. But it’s not a big deal - I’ve done it. Good luck!!
Leonora Castillo Hello! I’m sorry I was traveling for a while... I would say add extra 30 seconds on each side when cooking it in the pan... that should be enough. Thank you for watching!
No worries since tri tip are rarely :) evenly shaped, the lady's one had a pinch in the middle which is common, and they are usually somewhat of a tapered triangle with one end thicker and wider than the other. The result is that there will be some medium rare and some medium well done. And if you put one end of the tri tip off center in the oven that might be rarer than the part in the center of the oven.
Hello! I really like to do oven first and then sear because it gives me control to make it perfect medium-rare. And with steaks, I like to sear the fatty edges at the end and make them crispy and crunchy. Thank you for watching!

Good morning! Making this recipe tonight for a sirloin tri-tip I just bought. It looks so easy to do with results that are tender and juicy. Thanks for a great, easy to follow along with you recipe. Have a wonderful week. XO💗
Thank you so much! You have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you for the info 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are welcome and thank you for watching 😊
How long does it usually take to hit 130F using the 275 temp in the oven?
It takes different times depending on the size of the tritip. It’s best to use meat thermometer.
Thank you
My pleasure! And thank you for watching!
Do I need to marinate salt/pepper overnight or hours before cooking?
Hello! No, i salt it just before putting it in the oven.
How much longer do I cook on stoveup to have it well done without burning or it being dry?
Hello, I am no sure as we never make it well done. If you are near a grocery store, they should have simple $6-&7 meat thermometers. That would be the easiest way to make it well done. I’m sorry I couldn’t help.
Can we use butter instead of the oil or does it give it a more rich taste if we use oil??
Absolutely! I actually think it might be better with butter. Thank you so much for watching!
Great video !! Live the way you cook it. Why is it everyone’s tri-tip is a long roll of meat. When I purchase its a big piece shaped like an r..? It’s all good but I often wonder.🤷🏻♀️
Thank you! Yes, I too have seen cuts that look like this - it all depends how was carved by the butcher. Thank you for watching!
Thank you!
You are welcome and thank you for watching 😊
Attempting this right now with a small marinated one, only I don't have the olive oil :( Hoping it turns out.
Hi! I hope your tri tip turned out well 😊 Thank you for watching 😊
2024 and still the Best method
What thermometer are you using?

@@AnOldSchoolHome thank you
You are very welcome! And I love that thermometer
Awesome
Thank you!
Looks delicious
Thank you! I appreciate it!!!
I couldnt help to notice the organized pantry lol wish I was more organized
😂 Funny you said that... I just posted a picture on Facebook of my luggage saying “Completely packed 3 days prior to travel. If you need some OCD, I’ve got plenty of it” 😂 Thank you for watching 😊
Do I need to let it sit out for an hour I don’t have that time right now
No, you can start cooking it right away. You might have to cook it just a bit longer in the pan (the final step) because you are starting the meat at a lower temperature. But it’s not a big deal - I’ve done it. Good luck!!
An Old School Home thanks so much I appreciate the fast reply!
No problem!!! I’m glued to the phone because there is a wild fire happening 25 miles from my house 😬🔥 I hope you are enjoying a nice dinner!!!
An Old School Home it’s in the oven right now stay safe though!!
Thank you!! 😊
Well I know what I’m eating for dinner tomorrow
I hope you enjoy it and thank you for watching!
How long should I cook my tri tip in the oven if it is 2 pounds
Time is very hard to predict and it’s best to have a meat thermometer.
Only thing I have to say is you should wash your meat then continue this process. Looks good overall mam.
Hello! I prefer my steak medium rare, but the rest of my family prefers medium well to well done, any tips on how long I should cook medium welll?
Leonora Castillo Hello! I’m sorry I was traveling for a while... I would say add extra 30 seconds on each side when cooking it in the pan... that should be enough. Thank you for watching!
No worries since tri tip are rarely :) evenly shaped, the lady's one had a pinch in the middle which is common, and they are usually somewhat of a tapered triangle with one end thicker and wider than the other. The result is that there will be some medium rare and some medium well done. And if you put one end of the tri tip off center in the oven that might be rarer than the part in the center of the oven.
Thank you for your comment Kevin!
Depending on how you trim it everyone can get a piece they like. The outer side will be more cooked then the thicker center parts.
Exactly! We usually use the outer parts for salads and the medium rare inner parts standalone with a veggie side 😊
My trip tip is 3.92lb how long should I cook it for
It’s best to have a meat thermometer...
Try this th-cam.com/video/chvqQpbN0IA/w-d-xo.html
What if you don’t have a thermometer?
It’s hard to say without a thermometer because the tri tip comes in different sizes... You can get a simple one from most grocery stores
I'm so confused, everyone sears the meat first, then it goes in the oven. Why the difference? Does it matter?
Hello! I really like to do oven first and then sear because it gives me control to make it perfect medium-rare. And with steaks, I like to sear the fatty edges at the end and make them crispy and crunchy. Thank you for watching!
"black pepper to taste" and then she doesn't taste it. On the other side, it was "as much as you like" which makes way more sense.
I’m not a big black pepper fan, so “to taste” for me is nine or very little 😁 Thank you for watching!
She made that look so damn easy 🤦🏾♂️.
It’s quite easy - most of my recipes are :)) Thank you so much for watching!
