  • In this video I build part 1 of a 2 part build of the Soviet Light Tank BT-7 by Zvezda in 1/35th Scale. This is an old kit from around 1996 that is based on the 1992 release of the Zvezda BT-5. So there are moldings from the old kit of 1992 with the updated parts for the BT-7 in this release.
    This is Zvezda Kit No. 3545

    Very nice. Your gutsy building Zvezda kits. Not sure about there new ones but there early ones are trash. I think Tamiya make one of those but pretty expensive. Thanks for the old school makes me glad I'm not the only one who's doing it. Well there's Bill or I should say panzermansbunker. Anyway great job look forward to your next update.

    A really nice build! I have seen a couple of builds of this kit where the hull was bent and mismatched, but you took great care of it. I would like to see you deal with the Wz.34 armored Car from Mirage Hobby, would be interesting which improvements you would make to that '80s Kit.

      Thanks a bunch Jakob! I will have to look for the Wz. 34 from Mirage Hobby and see if I can get my hands on one. Weeell, one week into modeling this kit and I seem to have glued the front wheel assembly incorrectly and now the front fenders wont fit, as well as the part where headlamps are placed. Zvezda really does not have good assembly instructions. There is no indication on the angle these parts should be placed at and you see what you did wrong when it's already too late - and now I dont know what to do. Plus all this flash that you need to remove ... I think I will shelve this project and go to another kit - not Zvezda though. Tamiya most likely.

    • @hillbillymodeling
      @hillbillymodeling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonilogar5822 Sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble Toni. There are 2 sets of the part that the headlights sit on, one for the bt5 and one for the bt7. When using the bt7 ones you do have to square the edge that attaches to the tank, otherwise the angle is wrong and that might cause the problem with the fenders. I don't think I included that in the video. lots of test fitting with this kit. Well, with all kits really, I never take it for granted that any part will fit correctly. As for Tamiya, I love their kits, the fit is the best in modeling that you can get. But sometimes there are small fit issues there to, especially with older kits, but this is usually very minor things and only one or two instances in a build. Zvezda's can be tricky until you get used to them. Good luck with the Tamiya my friend!!

      Hi American Patriot, glad you enjoyed the video. Some modelers have had problems with the front suspension components such as the idler wheel mountings and steering components. Just make sure to test fit everything and dry assemble them before committing to glue and you shouldn't have any problems. As with most kits coming out of eastern Europe, you will have to clean up the parts for a good fit. Good luck! Johnny

      Best of luck Darth! Zvezda isn't known for ease of assembly in their early kits. Lots of test fitting and be careful with the front steering roadwheels and arms and the front fender mounts are confusing too, at least it was for me. I'm sure yours will come out just fine! For the toolbox hinge pins, you could glue a stretched sprue long enough to fit directly onto two hinge angles in one go.
    Have you already made your choice for the paint scheme? Spain? Khalkhin Gol? Other?
    Do you think making Hawaiian pizza is a criminal conduct?

    • @hillbillymodeling
      @hillbillymodeling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the reference photos I saw of an original BT-7, the hinges were not a piano style hinge but two separate hinges per door. That's not to say that there weren't piano hinged toolboxes out there. It makes sense that the soviets would have kept production of these tanks simple, using readily available hardware would have been a logical choice. As for the color scheme, you'll have to wait for the video! As to pizza, I like Hawaiian Pizza. Thanks for watching my friend and keep modeling!

      Hi Mikey V, I guess I should have introduced myself some time ago, my name is Johnny. As for Zvezda kits, first let me say that I have a mechanical background. With that in mind I'm not put off from a kit because it might have fit issues, in fact I enjoy the process of making the kit work. Now that isn't for everybody I know. Zvezda's old kits do suffer from fit issues and a lack of detail compared to new kits these days, but they are buildable kits and provide the opportunity to make it your own in my opinion. Remember also that there is a price point difference between old and new kits, as well as subject matter to consider. For example, if you want to build a Holt 75 Tractor in 1/35 scale from WWI, you only have Roden to choose from. It is a horrible model, but buildable if you commit a lot of time and energy to cleanup and reshaping some parts. I have a new kit from Zvezda, the M4A2 Sherman, that is absolutely wonderful! The only thing is that the turret and other cast parts are not textured, the quality is outstanding though, I highly recommend it! I intend to build it on the channel after I get some other builds done. Thanks so much for the great comment, Mikey. Mybe I should do a video on kit choices! Stay safe and model on my friend!!

    • @MVeminor7
      @MVeminor7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply Johnny, yeah, there are so many new kits and older ones circulating out there. It's tricky for me to tell what years they were produced. I see many modelers really know their stuff when it comes to particular kits. I enjoy the build and painting but, if I get bogged down with it I stop (not enjoyable anymore). You seem to work through it and you have the skills to pull it off. I'm working on it. Thanks for the positive support and feedback from you. Love your channel. Happy Holidays and best wishes to you and your kin.
      PS at the risk of sounding like a broken record, maybe at the 1000 subscriber mark you can plan a little dio base for your builds. They look so good that a base will make them museum quality. Yes, they are that good.
