My favourite taming method is emotional blackmailing. You hold your bitten and bloody finger near the nest and say "This...this is what you did to me, you little bastard. All I have ever done is love you. How could you do this to me?"
vonvonbear AJ it’s like 2 big needles going into your finger, it’s more painful because it’s such a shock. It doesn’t hurt for long but it’s a similar sensation to biting your tongue or cheek or banging your elbow - really painful for a few seconds then it goes away. Do what this lady says and you will be fine. Even if you get bitten it’s worth it in the end :)
Izkittyy well.... also I got another hamster and he died for no reason. I was upset but the pet shop gave us a free hamster, at least he's a baby so I know he will live long! He was the last hamster ( Syrian ) and I know why... I felt so bad because he was grey with red eyes. But not normal... he was such a little angel to me, he was very timid, but now he's getting tame-er! I love him so much, and his name is milkshake, because of his cherry eyes!
kayameisha00 those cages are extremely unsuitable, are u going to upgrade recommend a 450sq inches plus bin cage tall enough for over 6 inches of bedding to burrow in
My hammy is super nervous but she’s really getting there! I picked her up for the first time yesterday and I’m super pleased with how she’s getting on :)
It took an entire year for my hamster to become completely tame. The progress was amazing and so, so rewarding. I know that an entire year seems ridiculous, but my hamster was very stubborn, and I wasn't fully educated about taming at that time. Although, now, he is always happy to get out of his cage, and will happily and willingly take food out of my hand. I'm very satisfied with the progress we have made together. Good luck to any owners trying to tame your hamsters!
All of these videos include putting treats in your palm... I wash my hands and everything but I'm pretty sure my hamster mistakes my skin for treats... it really really hurts
I have a dwarf hamster, I just got him a few weeks ago, literally on Christmas Eve Day so .. I haven't had him for long. And already, he has trusted me, I have picked him up & hold him. I already reach my hand in his cage & he has never once, bitten me. I think I got really lucky. He already lays with me in my lap or in my coat pocket. He'll lay for hours, I haven't trained him to do anything. He'll even sit there, on my lap & hasn't peed or pooped on me at all. He's a good boy.
My hamster’s a funny little girl. Whenever I put treats on my hand, she ignores the treats and nibbles along my pinkie. It doesn’t hurt, but I find it hilarious.
my Syrian, China was brought home yesterday. I took your advice and left he to have her cage and a noise free environment ( my room) to herself. today is day 2 and it 9:00 at night so I'll try to do a little bonding with her. I watched mostly all your videos before I got her, and I wanted to watch this one before trying anything. hope everything goes well, and thanks for always giving good advice, Great Vid! ^w^
hey Erin... I got a syrian hamster back in September.. I watched EVERY hamster video you have, and I have to say, all of your tips worked! My little fur baby loves to be played with, and held... this "how to" video helped so much! Thank you so much for all your informative videos
So I had my hamster for maby 3 10 days and she dosent even let me touch her I tried more hacks and nothing works is that normal? Or dose she not like me?l think it is normal IS IT?!
Mine too, I have her since 1 month and she still doesn't like a little hug with my finger, I feel she tells me that she really doesn't like hugs and if I try to take her she jumps directly & when I can take her she jumps off my hand, always ! :/ , I'm patient, maybe one day !
Are those little tooth brushes the dog treat ones? Im a new owner of a wonderful dwarf hamster and I'm still learning. I've read in places that you can give them dog treats as chew toys. Which ones should I get? I'm always worried about him not chewing enough so most of his treats are "hard" (meant for hamsters tho). Only soft treat he has is the berry flavored yogurt drops which he LOVES.
tesha griffey Yes those are the whimzees dog chews, they come in a few different shapes and they are great to encourage chewing in hamsters. Any kind of dog biscuit that does not contain onion, leak, garlic or pork is fine to feed, I personally find that the 'Pedigree' brand offers some really good hard dog treats which are great for hamster teeth :)
I'm so happy right now, I got a hamster a week ago. I gave it 3 days before starting the taming process and today I was able to pick it up and even make her walk in my hands. I had her in the taming cage (which is a homemade playground) and after playing around and find all the hidden seeds she asked me to take my hand down, she got in and got down inside her cage 🥰 so adorable with just one month old and 7 days living with me 🥰
Thank you for this video! I got my hamster, "Gnome" almost a year ago and I am really ashamed that I haven't been taking care of him that much. I have barley handled him, or cleaned his cage very often. I told my mom this, and she that "It's never to late to make a change." So yesterday, I cleaned his cage using all of the tips from you and HoppingHammy. Right now I'm handling him with gloves in case he bites, but to my surprise, he hasn't once tried to bite the gloves. I even set him down on my thin cotton pajama pants that I am wearing, and he never tried to bite. He seems very very sweet. If I think he's ready, I'm going to take off the gloves quite soon, and really start taking great care of him. I want him to have a good life, and know that I really love him. Thanks again! :)
+Brieea Shawnfield Hi! I just wanted to thank you for your luck! I took the gloves off today, and to my surprise, he is one of the sweetest hamsters I've ever owned! He didn't try to bite me once! Thanks again :)
Do you have any tips on taming a deaf hamster, as we found out my new Syrian is deaf and possibly blind in his left eye? I know you've had a hamster like this before so I was wandering if you had any tips. Thanks 💕
Hey Erin, I just have a question. I recently got my hamster on Monday and ever since I got her, she's been burrowing in her bedding and won't come out. Is that normal for new hamsters? She's supposedly a Russian dwarf hamster. (My pet store said she was.)
Sorry I'm not Erin, but I have had a Russian dwarf, and its normal, it liked to burrow and make tunnels and rest there. If you didn't know, hamsters are nocturnal (like to be active at night)
Sydnee Chesley Yes it's completely normal. They are Dwarf hamsters so to tame them put your hand with some treats on it into their burrow then do these steps when it comes out
I just got a female Syrian today. She is very bold and curious, and she looks so squishy and soft! I want to hold her so badly but I am waiting a couple days for her to settle in without being bothered. Then I'll begin her taming process. This video will help me out tremendously; so thank you Erin! I would have a plentiful stock of treats, but while I was out shopping my dog pulled a few bags off the shelf and ate them -.-
I have a Chinese hamster and he does not like treats!! What should i do to tame him? I try to take him out of the cage with a tube and put him in a play pen but he doesn't enjoy coming out of the cage....PLEASE help!
I think the tube idea was brilliant! It's a good one! Especially for someone quite strange like me who is terrified of them sniffing my thumb especially... Thanks!
Guinea pigs are cuter, you have to get multiple Guinea pigs ( other wise they will get super sad) you need more food , you need to interact with them more, they can do much more damage to eachother and much more
3 days was the magic number, since we got her she hasn't had a lick of contact and has always run into her tube when she saw us. But today when I opened the lid to put in more food she came right out. I grabbed a piece of food from her dish and with a flat palm put it on my index finger. She took it with almost no hesitation. I was able to finish fixing her cage up and bring my arm in and out and she never ran. She even let me have my hand near her while she stuffed her cheeks
I just bought a hamster today I am not new to hamsters I had them before too but I just don't understand one thing... They are not afraid to come Into my palms and like they never bit me they sort of lick my finger... Are they Lake of awareness? Or its that they are tamed already in the shop? Or they are born not be afraid of any human I just don't get it... It's like they don't have emotion doing their own stuff... I mean the hamsters that I have now and before can somebody explain and sorry for my bad English
Some hamsters are just naturally friendly. Just make sure that your hamster doesn't think you are a piece of food. Give them a salt lick and for sure some hamster chews. Just continue the taming process, just to be sure. Do it for about 3 weeks. Be patient, just to make sure your hamster is ready.
Sometimes they might think your hand is food, or your hamster might be thirsty. Another alternative is a mineral chew. They are chews found at pet stores that are safe for hamsters to chew on, and lick.
Hi Erin! I know this video is old, but I recently adopted a robo hamster that had been returned to the petshop. He has some neurological issues from poor breeding, and as a result, is one of the most skittish hamsters I've ever seen! I tried taming for the first few months I had him, but never got past the "taking treats I leave at the opening to his den" phase. He's so terrified of my hands that even during his health checks he panics dramatically (tries to launch himself from my grasp). This is my third hamster and I've never experienced something like this. I understand that every hamster is different, and because he's so uncomfortable being handled I try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Do you have any advice for this situation? Or at very least a method I could use to make his health checks feel less traumatic for him :/ I feel terrible having to stress him out.
I know in not Erin, but my hamster was very skittish for a Syrian. I think you should try an extra step that I used. It's not the *best* but what I did was put my hand in the cage and let her see me put down a treat near her. She seemed to be more comfortable with taking treats from me after this step. I know though, that all hamsters are different and this may not work, but it might be worth a try :)
Erin help please!!! I've had my two hamster for about 3 weeks now and my hamster (winter) DISPISES me!! When I put my hand in the cage she chases it around and when ever I try to pick her up so I can clean the cage she bites me! Ive tried your method and many others but it just won't work! What should I do?
Erin, thank you so much for posting this. After "hamstersitting" for a good friend of mine a few times, he could tell how much I loved the hamster (a Syrian), so he let me adopt him. My friend's hamster kinda lived a punk rock lifestyle lol, but he was generally well cared for. I wished I had seen this tutorial sooner because it was only through trial and error that the hamster and I bonded. He still lets me know through chirps of disgust that he's the boss....lol :D
I need some help , I brought my 1st hamster on Saturday , and I have start taming with him but he always runs away from me and hids I have tried the tips and nothing really seems to be working , I know it takes time but I feel like I am not getting anywhere with him
You need to be more patient, taming isn't something that happens in a few days it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to earn a hamster's trust :)
If you've had him for several days and still not getting any progress put him in his cage, of he acts stressed or anything out of the ordinary leave him in there for him to get more comfortable
I got my hamster and she will only when its like midnight. Is there anyway I can get her to come out or do i just stay up really late. So if anyone has any tips please reply.
I know this is even later but if you want to interact with your hamster in the day you could wake it up in late afternoon or early evening when its had its full rest
I'm on the hand taming process. However, when I put my hand in the cage she bit me. The bite looked close but not about to draw blood. What should I do? Thank you Erin :)
My hamster thinks I'm food 😔. I've been trying to tame him for months, but every time I put my hand in the cage, he chases my hand, and bites me. I wash my hands, and my hamster still bites. Please help ErinsAnimals......
this is a really late reaction, but your hamster might be territorial. what might help is taking him out with maybe a tea cup, and just go away from the cage and then try it again.
sock I'm not erinsanimals, but I think I can help My Hamster did the same thing. Try placing your hand lower and make your wrist go upwards, my Hamster immediately saw the treats and ran to them, I know im late lol... Erin's animals has a video on how to stop hamster biting... At least I think she does. You can check that out and I hope I helped!
Erins what do you use as a treat, I just got a Campbell about a day ago and she bite me when I tried to carefully stroke it. any tips on getting my hamster to trust me? Thanks
Hey do you still take your hamsters like this ? Any updates or further tips you could share ? I have a very scared winter White and she has been with us a week . Left her alone for that time but whenever she sees me she freezes and hides . Not curious of coming out of her hidding place at all
Oh dear. I've done skipped part 1 and went straight to step 2 by putting treats on my open palm and waiting for my winters to climb on and take it. It works, and they rarely bite, but I'm wondering if that'll be a problem later?
ErinsAnimals I have a short-haired Syrian and, he is really kind!!! He never nipped me yet I got him on 1/31/2017. I have already almost tamed him!!! This video has helped me a lot. Your channel is so great :)!!!
Lol I ignored this so hard 😂 3 days ago I bought a new hamster (I already had a russian dwarf) and from the first day I started to give him food from my hand and on the second day I started petting him and lifting him up and now, the 3th day he is tame 😂😂😂
Hi there. I need some help, I got a Syrian hamster on Saturday. He is a bit young and very shy. Unfortunately I noticed that he is in a cage too small for his size. Not that that is a problem, because we have a big terrarium in the kitchen, but the hamster is scared already. How do I move him without losing his trust? Should I give him after the moving some time (a few days) to settle down? Thank you in advance!
I got my Russian dwarf a few days ago and I've just started to try and properly tame him. I wash my hands with unscented soap and try to hold treats out for him to take. But he kept trying to nibble on my finger instead. So I rubbed some of the bedding on my hand and tried again. Still goes for my fingers instead of the treat. What do I do when he nibbles me? Do I let him? Because it hurts. Am I doing anything wrong or do I just need some patience and he will learn. Thanks.
Here is a tip if you want a silent wheel and you got a normal wheel and want it silent for some wheels just take a drop of Veggy Oil and put it on the center of the wheel the part that is sticking out and it should make a slight noise but it will be unnoticeable because its the noise of the Air passing the wheel Hope it helped!
I have a question. My hamsters stopped biting me for at least two days, and so I thought they were tamed. But a while ago, one of them bit me and my finger bled. Does that mean its not yet tamed? I used specifically Floral Handsoap so I wont smell like food.
So, I have a little winter white hybrid that has done really well and is comfortable climbing on to my hand for treats, but as soon as I try to move onto step three, he doesn't really flinch, but just runs away. Is this normal, or is he one that hates being touched? If it is normal, what should I try to pacify this type of behavior?
Hi Erin, I own a winter white and Ive had him for 4 weeks now. I left him alone for a few days and after a week I started holding treats in my hand he started taking them comfortably. Then I tried putting the treats on my palm and waited for him to take them, but he came and bit me. So I've been offering treats with my hand, but haven't really placed them on my palm as I'm afraid. I was recently filling his food dish and he leapt and bit my finger and drew blood. Please advise.
Does this method work with djungariun hamsters?? I just came from the biting video. When I first brought my hamster home yesterday I took them out to put him in his cage and he bit me. I realize that he was probably stressed especially on the bumpy car ride home but now I'm nervous to pick him up again. I will let him sit in his cage for a couple days and get used to it but then after I'm looking forward to taming him.
I'm getting a new Syrian hamster from a rehoming website from someone who had 2 accidental litters I have the choice of getting a 6 week old hamster or a 4 month old that is already tame do you recommend going for a younger one so it bonds with me more or an already tame 4 month old hamster ? Thanks! I'm getting one tomorrow and I'm going to meet a lot of them but which do you recommend older or younger . Thanks!
Thank u for ur videos my hamster is really handle and not biteing me no more she comes to me and takes food out of my hand and loves her cuddles so i would like to say thank you
thanks this really helped I have a dwarf hamster and she was taking the sun flower seeds and a little eating put of my hand I just need to be able to handle my hamster for that part do you have any other tips for tat? please reply! many thanks xx
Do you have to tame your hamster? Like what if they are completely fine with you picking them up and will willingly take treats from your hand right away?
Hey Erin! Thanks for the tips! I have two hamsters, Bambi and Thumper. Thumper is very confident and was very easy to tame but Bambi is very hard to tame and hates being picked up, help?
It depends. Try one for yourself! I have one, and my hamster likes it! If your hamster doesn't walk around in it, it probably isn't for them. Try it for yourself.
+Izzy Biz I am not having a hamster yet, but I want to byu one. That's why I want to learn for hamsterballs. Thank's for the informations!!!(Sorry for my english I'm Greek)
No problem! My last hamster loved her hamster ball, but my current one doesn't. Each hamster has a different personality, so try it out! No problem, I wish I was greek😜
I just adopted a so called aggressive Campbells dwarf from the pet store. It was being kept in the back. He was barely weaned in my opinion because I’ve had many hamsters & he was still so small. After I let him settle in for 5 days I begin putting a nibble of cereal bar in my hands and he is not aggressive at all. He even lets me & my 6 yr old pet him as he eats. This week we will move on to picking up. He is in a 110 qt bin but after the taming process he will have a detolf set up for him. As we already have a Robo in the already built detolf. I think someone bought him as a pet for a young child. They got nipped at and they immediately returned him. So glad I was able to get him. He such a cutie. All grey with white feet. Not ur usual Campbells coloring. I think he may be a hybrid..
Hi Erin! I'm in step 4 with both of my syrian hamsters, but I can't move on to the next step because they always jump from my hands to the floor before I can start handling them. Any tips?
I've got a 5 week old Syrian. I got him home when he was 4 weeks old. I've been feeding him treats and regular food by holding the food between my fingertips and he's been taking it without any hesitation and problem from the beginning. I'm just ultra terrified though, of letting letting him walk on to my hand. I've let him sniff my fingers from very close (
I got my hamster yesterday, and I kinda skipped steps, I have already picked her up.. is that good because I didn't need the other steps? Or should I go back to the other steps. Thanks!
I would make sure that she is completely comfortable when being held like trying to bite you, flinching if or when you stroke her. If she is comfortable though when you pick her up i would still do the other steps just so she is completely non stressed and happy when you clean her cage fill up her food bowl rinse out her water bottle or bowl Hope this helped!
Thank you for making this video this was really helpful to me and my hamster autumn i really appreciate you making this video for people who have hamsters. THANK YOU!
This has really helped me and my hamster! I had to skip the hand and treat step as he just wasn't climbing on after weeks of trying! Thank you so much for this video.
I introduced my friends to your channel because they have hamsters. And now they are obsessed! XD Thank you for the info! This worked for my Russian dwarf hybrid!
Hi, I have a Syrian hamster and he's 8 month old. I've been giving him quick baths in mild baby shampoo once a month or once in two weeks as he does not enjoy sand baths as much and usually uses the sand tray for littering .He's been healthy so far and show no signs of distress when bathed (I make it real quick.not more than 2mins). Is it safe to continue this.
My favourite taming method is emotional blackmailing.

I doubt that works at all though
Ok how much does it hurt to be bit like what does it feel like I’m so scared I’m 13 idk why I’m so scared
vonvonbear AJ depends on your pain tolerance I got a hamster on my 12th bday and I’m 13 now but I was bitten a lot and it’s not really pain

Danielle A ok thank you very much I will try to hold her now
Thanks! Now my hamster is tame enough to watch tv with me on the bed

=) Gladmine isn't the only one xx
I suggest using non-sented soap. Your hamster might smell the good smelling soap and bite you because you smell like food. :)
Polīna okay thank you 😄😆 I'll try 😉
yeah, I think my hamster is and asshole and just hates EVERYTHING. He is mostly angry all the time and bits everything he sees.
I don't even own a hamster why am I here

I love how in this video you actually show a hamster as you're actually taming it (not an already tame hamster like other videos).

Zayra Cevallos its completely normal. Your hammy just needs maybe another couple days to a week.

Do you have any tips on taming a deaf hamster, as we found out my new Syrian is deaf and possibly blind in his left eye? I know you've had a hamster like this before so I was wandering if you had any tips. Thanks 💕
I don't think being deaf will be any harder but being blind I'm not sure
I know I’m late but...
The hamster mostly relies on his scent and already has very bad vision, so it won’t be a big difference.
Hey Erin, I just have a question.
I recently got my hamster on Monday and ever since I got her, she's been burrowing in her bedding and won't come out. Is that normal for new hamsters? She's supposedly a Russian dwarf hamster. (My pet store said she was.)

since day 1 i could stroke my hamster, i knew we would have a speacil connection
Thank you Erin! I got a winter white today and this video is very helpful. I'll let you know if I have any problems.
I just got a female Syrian today. She is very bold and curious, and she looks so squishy and soft! I want to hold her so badly but I am waiting a couple days for her to settle in without being bothered. Then I'll begin her taming process. This video will help me out tremendously; so thank you Erin! I would have a plentiful stock of treats, but while I was out shopping my dog pulled a few bags off the shelf and ate them -.-
I got a syrian hamster today also!!
Me too
I got a female syrian just over a week ago
2:00 Is she using a whimzee chew? 🤣
I really really want a hamster but my mom things it is a rat
Haahahahaha
Get a rat, she might think its a hamster.
Umm id just like to clarify this was a joke.
What my mom thought before lmao but now I have a hamster

I have a Chinese hamster and he does not like treats!! What should i do to tame him? I try to take him out of the cage with a tube and put him in a play pen but he doesn't enjoy coming out of the cage....PLEASE help!
I think the tube idea was brilliant! It's a good one! Especially for someone quite strange like me who is terrified of them sniffing my thumb especially... Thanks!
hello i was wondering what animal is right for a beginner a guinea pig or a hamster?
I'm am getting one soon in like till next Friday thanks for the tip
Hamsters are soooooo cuter then gunie pigs but there harder to take care of
Pearl?????????
Hamsters are way less work...
Oh those gunie pigs...
Dude it's the other way round
Guinea pigs are cuter, you have to get multiple Guinea pigs ( other wise they will get super sad) you need more food , you need to interact with them more, they can do much more damage to eachother and much more
i want a hamster my mom and dad wont give me that but now i know how to care a hamster
It took a day for my hamster to like me. He was a pretty chill little guy. He didn't mind anything, and loved sleeping on top of me.
I mean the hamsters that I have now and before can somebody explain and sorry for my bad English
when you hamster licks your finger it means they are low on sodium, so go to a pet store and maybe a walmart and get a salt lick.
***** well not all the time, when my hamster got hurt and started bleed, she started rubbing against the salt licj and within a day she healed.
Sometimes they might think your hand is food, or your hamster might be thirsty. Another alternative is a mineral chew. They are chews found at pet stores that are safe for hamsters to chew on, and lick.
Naila Jackson I have a new hammy (2 or 3 weeks) from a person not at a store and she was tame she came up to me and let me hold her she bit me once
Can I have some tips because my hamster is quite nippy and bites a lot . 😢
Bernadette Woodcock keep in mind, not all hamsters are tamable
Okay 🙂
But as she said, be patient :) and don't rush the taming process, your hamster should feel relaxed before you move to the next step
Use unscented soap as hey may think you smell tasty
You must taste nice
+ErinsAnimals he seems to be happy to be around me one day and then the next he his not :/
thank you for replying x
+ErinsAnimals he took some food from my hand today the 1st time since I have had him
If you've had him for several days and still not getting any progress put him in his cage, of he acts stressed or anything out of the ordinary leave him in there for him to get more comfortable
+Halos thanks , he is comfortable and settled and not stressed , he is getting better and better as days go on 😊
I got my hamster and she will only when its like midnight. Is there anyway I can get her to come out or do i just stay up really late. So if anyone has any tips please reply.
I know this is super late but hamsters are nocturnal. You probably already know that.
It might have been a nibbke, like your hamster seeing if you're food. The problem is, my hamster thinks that i am food, so he just bites me anyways
Try not to startle your hamster or put your hand in from behind. Move some of the bedding so you don't startle them. Good luck!
When my hamster bites, there's a lot of blood
My hamster doesn't bite happily
Sahar haha, i have two scars and i can draw correctly now
This really helped! My hamster that I jus got 2 months go is now much more comfortable with my presence and has trusted me!
Erin I'm getting my hamster tomorrow and I'm wondering if care fresh bedding is okay to use🐹?
My hamster thinks I'm food 😔. I've been trying to tame him for months, but every time I put my hand in the cage, he chases my hand, and bites me. I wash my hands, and my hamster still bites. Please help ErinsAnimals......
same!
this is a really late reaction, but your hamster might be territorial. what might help is taking him out with maybe a tea cup, and just go away from the cage and then try it again.
sock I'm not erinsanimals, but I think I can help
My Hamster did the same thing. Try placing your hand lower and make your wrist go upwards, my Hamster immediately saw the treats and ran to them, I know im late lol... Erin's animals has a video on how to stop hamster biting... At least I think she does. You can check that out and I hope I helped!
My kids use a sock over their hands
My hamster will bit me instead of tacking the trees when I Tri with the palm plz respond you prubaly not but its wirth a Tri
bit? tacking? trees? tri? plz? prubaly?
Zach wirth? Tri?
Is it possible that a hamster may never want to be held?
Yup
Yes. Some hamsters just don't like human attraction. Remember, they all have different personalities, and that should be respected
Not curious of coming out of her hidding place at all
My hamster bites me when I give it treats
1:18 I try this and my hamster is bite my hand and my hand started bleeding. lol
Did it hurt?

@@KenKen_1234 um yes 😅. But after a while it won't. So its not that big as a dog bite

Gianna Brambila ... that’s literally what everyone calls hamsters...
my hamster is only calm for 1 minute. the moment she's really awake she's going nuts trying to run everywhere xD
Oh dear. I've done skipped part 1 and went straight to step 2 by putting treats on my open palm and waiting for my winters to climb on and take it.
It works, and they rarely bite, but I'm wondering if that'll be a problem later?
i tamed my albino hamster yesterday i does not trust me now 🔰😢
Taming isn't something you do in a day, it takes weeks. Have a little more patience with your hamster :)
ErinsAnimals I have a short-haired Syrian and, he is really kind!!! He never nipped me yet I got him on 1/31/2017. I have already almost tamed him!!! This video has helped me a lot. Your channel is so great :)!!!
I'm really sad because I just realised this is 2 years later and hammys only live for 2years
Lol I ignored this so hard 😂 3 days ago I bought a new hamster (I already had a russian dwarf) and from the first day I started to give him food from my hand and on the second day I started petting him and lifting him up and now, the 3th day he is tame 😂😂😂
Julia Pultrum I got my russian dwarf yesterday. This morning she was completely fine with me lifting, feeding and stroking her. loool
they are all tamed at different rates, I got my hamster last saturday and I was holding him on monday
Oof my hamster wouldn’t come out for three months but now he’s comfortable with me hand feeding him but bites a little 😂
Um Erin your not suppose claw the hamster that's really mean
What are you talking about?
+ErinsAnimals well it's kinda like the claw thingy
Bounlavane napaseurt What "claw thingy"?
+ErinsAnimals reaching in from above, it freaks most hams out because it's similar to getting picked up by a bird.
Sleepy Puppy I know this, it's mentioned in many of my videos that you should always approach a hamster in a position they can see you
The second day I had my new hamster she was taking treats from my hand and walking all over me, ahhh I love Sparticus she's so friendly! 💜
Does this work for mice? And other question is that I got my mice 7 months ago will this still work even if I’m late? Thanks if you respond
I got Mel just 3 days ago and she already happily sits on my hand without treats
Thanks.
is this a good taming process for mice aswell?? x
What kind of sun flower seeds do u use is it okay to use the David sunflower seeds that u buy at the store?
I have a question. My hamsters stopped biting me for at least two days, and so I thought they were tamed. But a while ago, one of them bit me and my finger bled. Does that mean its not yet tamed? I used specifically Floral Handsoap so I wont smell like food.
So, I have a little winter white hybrid that has done really well and is comfortable climbing on to my hand for treats, but as soon as I try to move onto step three, he doesn't really flinch, but just runs away. Is this normal, or is he one that hates being touched? If it is normal, what should I try to pacify this type of behavior?
I never tamed my hamster but she is the sweetest hamster ive ever met, and she doesnt bite, and she loves to be handle or play with.
How long did it take for you to tame your hamster completely? Thanks
Thanks!
This video was so great! Such an easy, step by step video, easy to follow, very calming, loved it!
Thank u for ur videos my hamster is really handle and not biteing me no more she comes to me and takes food out of my hand and loves her cuddles so i would like to say thank you
These methods also are for gerbils, right? I just got gerbils yesterday and I want to know how to properly tame them
This is for taming hamsters. If you want to learn about gerbil care you will have to go to a gerbil channel or gerbil forum :)
Hi Erin, I was wondering, are those just regular sun flower seeds that you could buy at the grocery store or is it a specific type? Thanks
Make sure if you give them human sunflower seeds THEY CANT BE SALTED

Do you have to tame your hamster? Like what if they are completely fine with you picking them up and will willingly take treats from your hand right away?
Hey Erin, what type of treats did you use in this video
I got a Russian dwarf yesterday!! I can't wait to start taming!! She already seems so settled.
how's it going with the taming?
+lovelylatis909 thank you so much for asking. Currently we are at the step where she walks into a tube and I put my hand out for her to walk on to!
I also got a hamster too last night
Hey Erin! Thanks for the tips! I have two hamsters, Bambi and Thumper. Thumper is very confident and was very easy to tame but Bambi is very hard to tame and hates being picked up, help?
Hi erin!
I've heard a lot of about hamsterballs but I want your opinion. Are they good for hamsters?????
Any tips?
When you buy a mouse from the pet store is it already tamed pls answer quick I'm getting one tomarrow
My hamster died in my arms yesterday and now I’ve got a new one and completely forgot how to tame them!! This video helped a lot though thank you
I've got a 5 week old Syrian. I got him home when he was 4 weeks old. I've been feeding him treats and regular food by holding the food between my fingertips and he's been taking it without any hesitation and problem from the beginning. I'm just ultra terrified though, of letting letting him walk on to my hand. I've let him sniff my fingers from very close (
+ErinsAnimals When do you start feeding them when you first bring them home
I got my hamster yesterday, and I kinda skipped steps, I have already picked her up.. is that good because I didn't need the other steps? Or should I go back to the other steps. Thanks!
I would make sure that she is completely comfortable when being held like trying to bite you, flinching if or when you stroke her. If she is comfortable though when you pick her up i would still do the other steps just so she is completely non stressed and happy when you clean her cage fill up her food bowl rinse out her water bottle or bowl
Hope this helped!
Thank you for making this video this was really helpful to me and my hamster autumn i really appreciate you making this video for people who have hamsters. THANK YOU!
Hey Erin! I've got a 15 week old Russian dwarf hamster and wanted to know if this method would work for him or not.
This has really helped me and my hamster! I had to skip the hand and treat step as he just wasn't climbing on after weeks of trying! Thank you so much for this video.
Do you have to you special sunflower seeds or just normal ones?
I just got my hamster 5 days ago and he already lays on my bed with me. He just sits there lol
