    Actually I do have another question, so I know there is a “Cal” mode for calibration and a “SWR” mode when checking the SWR so when your talking dose it have to be on “S/RF”

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whoa! Deep thought! GREAT QUESTION for an electronics person! I'm not an electronics guy, but I guess only use the swr meter for calibrating. You might be able to transmit/receive in calibration mode, but it may not be good for the radio's electronics long term. Kinda like driving the freeway in first gear, you can do it, but it's not good for the transmission.I'll check out the manual and get back to you if it says anything good.

  • @Rrrakanishu
    @Rrrakanishu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is it OK for the SWR to be higher than 3 while keying up on the S/RF mode? Calibration was done correctly, and SWR in SWR mode states it is below 3, but when I switch to S/RF mode it is through the roof...

    I recently purchased this lx 29, do I have to recalibrate it everytime I turn it on?

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jake! GREAT QUESTION. Um..I'm no expert on this stuff, but I think it's a one time thing. In my younger days, I would just stop at a CB shop on the freeway and have them do it for a few bucks, and I'd just do it one time. Most of those shops are gone now. Probably would not be a bad idea to check it every now and then. And now that you mention it, I have a magnet antenna, that I take off and on...that might make changes so it might need re calibrated slightly again.

    Hi I got a cobra 29lx max and everything good except for when I'm rolling I get a antenna warning. Its installed in a 2019 Freightliner using factory antenna. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no expert on the stuff, but I bet it's the factory antenna, they probably customized the antenna cable longer or shorter to fit the truck and factory cb. I read when I put my cb in and did the videos, that "do not cut the antenna cable and change the length because that is an important part of the cb set up. " Check the ground too, the antenna has to have a ground on the exterior of the vehicle. Lots of exterior parts are plastic, fenders and hoods, etc. The trunk lid on my 2001 Lincoln Continental is plastic and the magnet antenna mount would not stick to it, and would not get a ground.

      The problem is the factory antenna. They are horrible. Best bet is to get a mirror mount and install an antenna

    • @danialphaomega
      @danialphaomega 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this warning antenna message too and after doing tons of research I found out that the antenna is not making a good connection to ground.
      Check the resistance level with a multimeter and check antenna base for corrosion water can get inside the antenna base mount and cause interference and carwash soap can accumulate too .
      So in summary check your ground.
      Check the connection to make sure they ARE clean.
      Hope this helps and keep on CBing 10-4

    I have this exact same radio set up on a 102 inch antenna on the back of my tool box, and I did these exact steps and it comes back with these exact SWR readings.... its almost seems too perfect, could somthing be wrong? Or is it just a good setup

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi GH! I read a while back that these days antennas are set up at the factory, so that might be why. I think in the OLD days of CB's, antennas needed a lot of adjusting. Thanks for watching! Jim

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my younger days back in the 1980's, I had my car cb adjusted a handful of times, by pros at a cb shop on the freeway. They never really did that much, it would only take them a couple minutes to check it out. And I've always used magnet antennas that were in and out of the trunk almost daily.

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had one of the long antennas on a blue Gran Torino I had back the 1970's, old cop car. That car flew! I think I remember it flying in the wind a lot, you might want to tie it down with a string or something, I'm not sure if they have a more professional way of securing it so it doesn't fly around. Feel free to comment here and let us know.

    Why mine mine says when try to calibrate it , ANTENNA WARNING.? please help me!!

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi YV! I'm no cb expert. If it's a new cb and new antenna, I'd say it's just in your swr setting. My video here should help you set it up. Also, I think it has something to do with the antenna wire or length of the antenna. The antenna wire is set up at the factory and should not be changed. Be sure to not roll the antenna wire up in a ball, that could cause interference. New antennas these days, the antenna length is also set up at the factory, years ago, we had to cut some off the length of the antenna at the bottom usually to help set the swr. Try the antenna in a different location on your vehicle, see if you get the same warning, the cb antenna uses the metal on the vehicle to ground itself.
      Let us know your results. I'll research it and get back to you later too. Jim

      Oh Man! I love it! Dials are a little small, that is kinda a pain. Back in the `1980's my cb had 3 or 4 buttons, off/on, squelch, and channel select.

    What happens if you have an antenna warning

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know, but be careful you don't damage the radio. If memory serves me, the antenna wire length is set at the factory, don't cut the antenna wire or coil it up. And the base of the antenna must be grounded to the car body.

      Look for a local CB store/Electronics shop, it's always best to have a pro set them up. In my younger says, I always stopped at a shop on the turnpike and have them set mine up. Great shop there in Pittsburgh!

    So the problem I'm having is... I'm not receiving anything. SWR is calibrated on all channels. I have NO antenna warnings.

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, go to a truck stop, see if anyone answers. Not a lot of people own cb's these days, even truckers don't bother. turn the squelch the whole way to the left, first know outer wheel. I think the srf button gotta be in the right spot to work too. page 12 in the manual. I think that happened to me too when I was messing with the buttons.

    What if you can't get at the antenna? I drive a freightliner with a built in antenna that I don't know where it is

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know anything about that. I'd find a good cb shop near a major truck stop near your route. In my younger days, I always had it professional set up so it worked right. It's worth $20.00. It was a small electronics shop just off rt 80, near Pittsburgh. When I installed this one, I read that modern antennas are set up at the factory.

      Hi Carlos, I don't know anything about that. I'm not an electronics guy. Try electronic cleaner. I used it on the amp in the below video. Walmart has it in Auto, car parts stores also have it. Check the knob, make sure it is turning the post, and the tightening nut did not rattle loose. Thanks for watching! Jim

    Mines have antenna warning

    • @JimVincitore
      @JimVincitore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Did you cut and shot en the factory antenna wire. I think that usually causes the warning. Supposed to keep it long as made at the factory. Or antenna wire might be too wound up, leave it loose and shove it behind the seats and carpeting. When you wind up wire, you get interference in the wound up part, even though it is covered in plastic.

    🌴Get a ferrite core for the coax cable to bring down swr's and run a power line straight to the battery with a bigger gauge wire assembly you loose wattage with wires they give you in the box.Antenna warnings your touching ground and positive somewhere you can over tighten the tune at the end of the antenna or have nothing rubber idolater in-between the antenna and the mount.Dont coil your coaxial wrap it around ferrite core even your power line.Change to a different antenna get your money back you know sometimes is very not so but obvious even if everything looks but still running into a problem get another antenna different place different company.But as I said if you over tighten your tune at the tip can cause that.The tune is the important part not tightness of the bolts super important.🦛
