Thank you for talking about this subject. I recently found out I'm Native American, Spanish, and Jewish but majority Native American. Looking back at some of the history between Native Americans and the Spanish was very upsetting to say the least, but it was a truth I have come to accept. Like alot of people I was just told by my family "Your Mexican" and that was it. I'm so glad I now know who I am and I wish more people would do research and get in touch with who their ancestors are, its in alot of ways freeing 💙

The Spanish empire was a great and multicultural empire! Most of what they teach in schools are lies!! The Spanish empire legalized intermarriage between Spanish, native Americans and Filipinos since 1521!! Just think about that! The Anglos didn’t legalize it until the 1960s!!

No, it’s really not. They have been condemned by local Indigenous activists and community organizations because they used to publicly celebrate the genocide of Indigenous Pueblo people. Slavery was ilegal for native Americans under Spanish rule. That does not mean that natives did not have the right to revolt against invaders. The same way that Celts revolted against Roman conquest in Spain or Iberians revolted against Celts invaders before them in Spain as well. The same can be said about English history and the Celts invading the Picts, the Saxons the Celts, the Normans the Saxons... We are the result of that melting pot. And of course, violence was involved. The same way that native Americans were invading each other before Spanish invasions.

There was slavery, but more restricted and limited than everywhere else. Enslavement of the native population was, generally, forbidden, but there were some exceptions. The Pueblos were not one of them, as far as I know. Abuses did exist, they existed everywhere, there were no human rights back in the day, sometimes i wonder how some epople think things were going on in Europe for like 90% of the population at the time.

But, you have incorporated those that you you call Mexican/Hispanics are often not. Many are Natives, Tewa, & other Pueblos, Apache, Comanche. Their children are shamed into denying their native ancestry & those surveys discount their real identity. Now these same children claim Mexican or Hispanic, even though they were never part of Mexico or Spanish citizenship. They are even criticized for not speaking Spanish very well. My husband’s children & grandchildren that are Native, now claim Mexican with almost less than 10% Spanish, because they want to fit in. I find this very sad. Southern New Mexico seems to only validate Mexicans because it was Mexico for only 23 years South of Socorro & many Mexicans moved in & believe they are superior to the natives. I admire all these cultures & I am a Spaniard.

My ancestors were very spiritual people worshiping the moon and the stars and the wolf, and bear, and the bull, the rivers and rains. They had lived in their ancestral lands in different tribes since more than 5,000 years ago. Then they were conquered by some people called Romans (they did not ask for permission to the natives my ancestors); they mixed. Then these new roman people were conquered (without asking permission again) by he Goths, Vandals, Suevians, Visigoths, and other germanic tribes, and mixed some more; these in turn were conquered by the Berbers and mixed some more with the population, that included many Sephardics. After these groups in the north already mixed by the previous four of five conquerors of my ancestral lands, started re-conquering land from these last ones going south, they formed several kingdoms (by now we had a new religion and a new fused language, a mix of the hundreds of languages from 3000 year ago with Roman Latin. We got united and become the most powerful modern State on earth, and went on to explore the world, including America. We were the first, the first, (did I say) THE FIRST global empire on this planet. We brought with us, our religion, our language, our cultures, laws and traditions, and our proud mixed race. We are now 900 million all over the world, in more than 30 nations in five continents, of every possible color. We are different than others (particularly anglos that have tried to divide us for 600 hundred years unsuccessfully and spread all possible lies rewriting history and using native American and recent immigrants to their "pc" agenda). We are different that others, I was saying that way, in that we have no fear to fight, no fear to love even the very different and no fear to be peaceful.

As a Hispanic I’m kinda disappointed in the way these people are portraying colonialism. It seems to be a very ‘nice’ process, where even the Queen of Spain is portrayed as a peaceful individual when in history books she was a soulless creature, as well with ALL the Spanish military officials sent by the kingdom of Spain to massacre the indigenous communities and steal their wealth. Probably they really don’t understand the damage Spanish colonialism has caused in Latin America. They should celebrate the independence, and not the ‘peaceful’ conquest by Vargas because it’s a conquest, whether you like it or not, a conquest never took place peacefully, NEVER. It’s even embarrassing, for someone who really knows history it’s even insulting, it’s practically diminishing the HORRORS and ATROCITIES the Spanish committed in Latin America (nothing in comparison to what the British and French have done in North America and the rest of the world) but you probably get my point.
