    I just wanted to say Osprey has hands down the best warranty I've ever seen on pretty much anything , I bought one of the original Atmos 50 from 2005 I completely wore it out It is now 2023 I was told about the guarantee from the osprey dealer and they weren't kidding I sent a couple photos in And if it's something that they cannot repair they will replace your backpack And they did just that I was blown away about how awesome Mary Jane was in the returns department and how awesome the customer service was Just got the replacement pack today I'm so stoked definitely a customer for life🤙💪😁

    I have the rook 65, and love it. Im not a fan of multiple pockets and never use the external pocket on my other packs so the rook seems to get used more than my other higher priced packs. Hands down the best bang for buck pack you can buy.

      Yes over a hundred bucks cheaper that the Atmos 65 ( great pack ) and it has the Airspeed back panel.

    I have the rook 65. I love it. Great first backpack to get you going. All the features you need and nothing you dont. One thing I'd knock the rook for is the hip belt pockets are hard to close when you're wearing the pack.

    the two “external sleeping bag straps” are also straps to secure the lower part of the backpack in case the zippers fail. you will notice that backpacks that have zipper access at the bottom usually have two straps….

    Nice pack. I've been using a 50L Ozark Walmart special that was about $60 and it's held up for 3 years. It's got a rain fly, side pockets, belt pockets, top flap pocket, bottom pocket and straps on the bottom for the tent and sleeping bag. It may weigh a bit more, but I've never had to repair it.

    Hi Chris, I bought the Teton sports scout 3400 for 71$ a real budget backpack. I’m glad I haven’t spent much for my first pack. I haven’t used it yet as I do car camping and day hikes so far. Hope to do overnighters in the spring.

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a very solid pack and affordable, They make decent tent as well.

    • @natlovell122
      @natlovell122 ปีที่แล้ว

      The scout 3400 is a good pack for sure. That was my first pack and I used it several times before selling it to my brother and getting an Osprey Rook 65. The Rook 65 is far more comfortable than the Teton Sports but both are fine packs in the Backcountry

    What is the height of the frame only? Can you bring it on an airplane as a carry-on if you are not filling to the top ?

    Timely video for me. I just got a bonus from work and I'm looking at picking up a new day pack to take out in the spring. I'm the workhorse that carries all the gear for the family, so it needs to be big enough to carry towels, shoes, snacks, etc. for 4 people. Any recommendations?

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Rook comes in a 65L...gives you more capacity and affordable as far as Osprey goes....I would go into a store Sportsman's Warehouse/ REI/ etc...and look/ try first hand...see what works.

    This backpack is great for the casual backpacker who goes out on 1-2 trips a year. Doesn't break the bank and will last a lifetime. However, Chris is right. The Atmos 65 I've had for 7 years and I'll never buy another bag. Worth the $270 if you plan on backpacking many, many trips for years to come. The Atmos 65 is very comfortable and they have the bag built in a way where most of the weight is on your shoulders and not your back. Just throwing in my two cents if anyone is watching it and trying to determine what to buy. If money is no object, Atmos 65 is the runaway choice. All my friends have one and have never had any issues with it on hundreds of trips we've taken

    Hey Chris,
    I was just wondering if youve attached an Osprey Daylite to your Rook. I know the rook has that feature with the external attachment loops, but ive yet to see somebody do it. It seems like a good option to have a small daypack for smaller hikes from a basecamp. Love the videos!

    Free knight cheap Chinese 60L that comes with rain cover and it's own compartment for $39 works for me. It also has desecrated trekking pole tie down on both sides which I found useful.

  • @petergaffney9702
    @petergaffney9702 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Chris, why is it that Osprey gives you a rain cover for the inexpensive models but you have to buy one when the pack costs $270-350? I don’t understand why they do this. I don’t think that a cover would cost $30 odd either! I’ve got 5 Osprey packs and I paid quite a lot for all of them. Maybe I should ask for a rebate??? Good review Chris!

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Peter , That is a great question...it would make sense if you get the expensive pack you get all the bells and whistles with it. not sure....Worth asking them about it since you're a dedicated customer.

      @@basecampchris Thanks for the quick reply! My 2021 55 L Aether actually just got delivered and I am thinking it hits a sweet spot for my needs.
      I really wanted to go for the 50 L Atmos (~53 L total because I need large), however, I thought that with my gear and adventures, I would need at least ~60 L; and the 55 L Aether (~58 L total) was going to be it

      Warmer weather or desert/arid areas - Go for the Rook (I did, as my back seems to sweat alot). Kestrel has an internal pocket on the brain and dedicated ice axe loops (perhaps a hint as to what climate it's aimed at). I also prefer the rook sternum straps adjustment.

    I was wondering why since the Rook was released, this channel didn't cover it. I suspected it was due to the cost of purchasing one. Since this channel discusses Osprey packs and it is a backpacking business, I'm curious if the purchase of Osprey packs could be a tax write off.

    The All mediocre warranty.. I bought a pack from Osprey a Stratos 50.used it for a month with nothing but 5 pounds of luggage the sternum straps broke.i sent pictures from guarantee people after 2 months nothing happened. The fact that it broke just a month after I bought it says a lot about the quality of these bags.. If I had to buy a new pack I'd stay away from Osprey's all mighty mediocre guarantee.
