Interesting and very different from how I was trained. When I went through the academy we were treated as adults receiving professional training. None of this military stuff or distracting us from the subject matter with keeping track of a ceremonial axe. No coordinated marching either. Different strokes for different folks, but I do wonder why so much emphasis is placed on these superfluous things when you could be training them on how to do the job? The academy should be hard, what we do is hard, but I get the feeling all this extra work is in the name of tradition and has little effect on the quality of firefighters that you're producing.
@@Alex_Amoroso I have no doubt they produce quality firefighters. My question is if all this extra stuff they do is really essential, or if it's just done in the name of tradition.
It was shocking to see how demeaning they are to the new hires. They give them nameless shirts and tell them they could all be fired and SMFR wouldn't care. All of that translates to: the department doesn't care about you.
@@MissZXC16 your sadly mistaken if you think SMFR doesn't care about its employees. This department is leading the nation in recruitment and retention. There is a reason why they do things the way they do, many departments and one I'm affiliated with unfortunately do exactly what you see is wrong and they put firefighters online that do not in no way belong on the job. And also to add as a civilian and tax payer this is the way I expect public safety employees to be trained. Instilled discipline and upheld expectations.
25:18 seeing Justin talk to the academy is kinda cool. Seen him in other videos and now talking to the class. Hopefully he’s moving up, seemed to always be the same demeanor but had more information to share.
Can you guys make a video about the search and rescue team y’all work with? Like a video about them or a day in the life would be really cool to see! I hear they do a lot!
Hello-South Metro Fire Rescue Centennial, Colorado. - i was just curious if you could please do a (Day in the Life of a firefighter or Engineer or anything related with a fire apparatus please). I would really appreciate if that could happen. But I know you just made a video of the South Metro Fire Rescue Fire Academy but I mean in the future please. Thanks

Hello to everyone at South Metro Fire Rescue from NE Ohio. I'm joining too. :)
What’s the difference between this academy and a lateral academy?
Went through Fdny academy and worked in Fdny for over 20 years this looks like a cake walk compared what we went through. Lol
