Great video Steve. You made the right choice re send the box to a specialist. I spent almost a week trying to rebuild the same and eventually had to go to a specialist, they are so complicated it’s untrue. Anyway great show as always. 👍
Thank you for an independent look at this Borg Warner transmission. Will look forward to part 2. If you can, maybe offset that metal brace when you weld it back in place. The next owner will thank you
Good video sir those two pipes go straight to the radiator to cool the fluid other wise the box will over heat bad idea to join the pipes .sad to see that damage but you are well capable to fix any thing very sure.👍👍👍

Steve, I guess if the Auto box is OK and you have it rebuilt and a pro is the way to go in my opinion. I guess you will make the support bracket bolt in rather than weld on when you reinstall the box. I sent you an e mail and looking forward to talk with you. Cheers Dave
B-W Type 65 & 66 were essentially just a later slightly beefed up version of the Type 35 . The type 35 (and type 45) were originally intended for engines up to 2 litres but British manufacturers paired the Type 35 with bigger engines up to and including the the 4.2 XK which was a bridge too far and it was not uncommon to see loss of second gear due the brake band snapping.
Good job as always!! Did you ever wonder to swap the gerabox with a manual one istead of automatic? It shuold improve driving pleausure and the "old timer feeling". Also less mantenaince and more reliability and a new video series
A tip. Throw away the foul slushbox and fit a four-speed and o/d all synchro Jag 'box. You'll just need a pedal set, clutch master cylinder, slave and pipe. The propshaft may need to be shortened too. But it would be a real transformation.
Steve, you just did the "heavy lifting" getting the transmission out so It's very OK to send it off to be fixed by an expert. But - have you considered just throwing it away and fitting a manual 5 speed with a clutch? Is there room in the foot-well for a clutch pedal?
Exactly what I was thinking, it was obviously designed to have everything dropped in from the top, with a bolt up crossmember it would be a lot better. Chris B.
that's a big job .... don't think about replacing it with a manual gearbox ? (although a lot of work too...) would increase it the value of the car (for the Belgian market) ?
Hey Steve I love your videos I've been watching your videos for a long time I've never commented but I feel like the explanations and the diagrams that you do are great but I feel that there's a different way to do it so that way there's not so much time explaining and more time focused on the actual repair because a lot of times I'm so excited for a video but then I have to watch 15 minutes of explaining and only five to eight minutes of actual repair like I said no disrespect it's just maybe a thought
Series 1,2,and 3 Jaguar XJ were all XK straight six or the V12. The only 8 cylinder to go in the XJ, was after Ford's takeover and I believe a modified Ford V8.
@@D3Sshooter ta, I changed a manual to auto but fitting the flexiplate locks the engine up (thought it had seized) -should there be a spacer ? Also, the TC has the normal 4 bolts but also 4 spacers about 1/2" thick -is that correct ?
Yuck on the fluid coming out the dipstick tube... That stuff is cooked. (should be a nice red "cherry juice" color. Did it smell burnt? And another yikes on the amount of debris on the magnet! That amount of metallic sludge I'd expect on a 100,000 mile gearbox with no service, not a car like your TS-100.
Hi Steve, I'm curious. What's the Car DIYer culture like in Belgium and maybe Western Europe? Is that thriving and there are lots of people working on their own cars, with all the supporting businesses, or OTOH are you a rare enthusiast with few people to talk to? In the US for instance, I think car culture was extremely strong a few decades ago (Muscle car era) when all the teen boys were taking car shop classes in High School and working on the family car on the weekend, building hot rods etc, but that has now been largely replaced by video games, and young folks are much less into car work. (Can you tell I'm old...? :) )
Nice video. I know that gloves can be awkward but you should really wear these nitrite disposable gloves. You dont want oil etc getting on your skin and work its way into your kidneys through tbe pores.
What a disaster for you! I really do not trust automatic gearboxes, they either run for ever, or give constant strange problems, and your decision to get it re built by a specialist is a very good idea, just make sure you do your usual in depth investigations as to his "track record" on reconditioning. It would be much better if you made the cross member a bolt in piece rather than welding it. With all the effort to get this vehicle registered this is the last thing you wanted, you should be out on the road enjoying it! Chris B.

So, I will leave it in the hands of that workshop. estimated cost 1500 + 280 (torque ) plus tax for a total of 2500 euro ( expensive....hmmmm, actual cost for parts 800)
@@D3Sshooter The problem with auto boxes is you need the low torque spanners to set up the brake bands, even at 2500 E, which sounds a lot, you are doing the job for half what it would cost if you took the vehicle into a car repair shop, and you are doing the job properly, which with time constraints is doubtful if the repair shop do it! I have done that exact thing of joining the gearbox cooler lines bypass JUST TO GET HOME...i fixxed it once back home but it isnt a good idea aha

wouldn't it be better to fabricate a new bracket that you can bolt for future use, in instead of welding it in again?
