    This all started when I tried to make a skirt with leftover fabric I had from a scarf I was making. I didn't even bother filming it because I was pretty sure I wasn't going to love it. And then.... I loved it. And so did everyone else! So I decided to make a dedicated video for this skirt and also demo it in a different fabric so you can see the versatility of this "no-pattern" pattern.
    Take some time to decide where you want to place your hole, as that will create an entirely different shape.
    The red plaid one was centered from right to left, however I placed the hole closer to the front then the back - making the front shorter.
    Play around with what works for your style!

  • @creed6234

    With the blue skirt (pre-cropped length), I would have gotten some large safety pins, added a few embellishments to the pins (charms,chains,beads,whatever), then gathered up some of the fabric over the left knee and pinned it in place. That way, you still have the length when you want it, but you can create a temporary “slit”-style look and add some cool punk elements.
    VERY fun skirts!!!

    Thank you for showing 3 versions of the skirt. I also appreciate you showed that "boo-boo" where the plaid fabric pulled through the elastic when sewn at some points. It's good for us who don't have as much experience to see that things like that happen to sewists with a lot more knowledge than our own!

    Love it! I’m such a fan of you and your channel! You have inspired me so much for years! I love to take your tutorials and sometimes tweak them to make them a little more me. I like how the creme (first) skirt falls! I am not really a plaited kind of girl and would want to edge nicely done. But nice idea for a skirt. Did make an oval one (with the back longer), but the straight angles gives it a nice vibe. You could do a 2 layered one if the fabric is very fine (and semi-see through) to give it even more depth and movement (organza, tule etc).

    Orly! These are an outstanding example of designing on a short string! Literally. I agree with others abt the flannel (plaid) looking like plaid tie around from back in the day. This was huge in the 80s. They all look adorable on you. ❤ I just love this channel.

    Simple but so stylish! I might even try this, being in my 60's I often hesitate to try some of the A-symetrical looks, as I think they might be too young looking for me. Others out there in my age bracket?? Besides being a Plus size girl...

    Looooove this! I love this. I’m still obsessed with some other, older plaid skirt that I think you made (it appeared in one of your videos, and I think about it all the time!). But this is also fantastic! Looking forward to trying this one.
    The seam pulling through to the other side-I’ve had that happen when the machine’s tension is off for the fabric I’m using. I’m not enough of an expert to know anything more than that, so…that’s not super helpful, I know! 🙁 But maybe it provides a clue!

  • @sallyidso182

    These are so cute. You absolutely did the right thing with the circle skirt. Im old and heavier than I was but I have an old table cloth that I’m going to dye with marigolds and make a skirt. You always inspire me even if it’s not my style I want to use what I have or thrift to add to my wardrobe.💕

    I really like it in all lengths. Very cute and easy. Tacking down the elastic is a must! If one doesn’t, it seems it never straightens out and lays evenly and lumpy

  • @Me-oy5he
    @Me-oy5he 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Using a ball point needle on your machine might prevent that problem when stitching through the elastic.
    But as always, your design ideas are wonderful. These skirts are great, especially the workarounds.

    For the waistband fix, to wear the green side out. just pick out the threadbits, snip them off, and then take a black sharpie and color over any leftover threads you couldn't get out. They'll never show! After washings, if the black marker fades, just re--color! Been doing this for decades!

  • @SG-ld4xs
    @SG-ld4xs 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Your fabric is pulling through because either your needle needs to changed (it’s dull or not the right one) or your tension has been unbalanced. I’d say the needle though

    It would be amazing to stack two or three of these into a single skirt...I have a bunch of men's shirts that I want to upcycle and it would require piecing but I think this would be cool such a cool use for them...A shirting fabric is thin enough that two layers plus the elastic would still go easily through a machine. This also showed me how to fix/alter a skirt I have that is too big and the elastic rolls....

    Wow! This turned out great! I think it may be time to learn how to use the sewing machine my mom bought me a decade ago 😂😂😂
    Love those boots, too. That was also a DIY you did, I seem to recall. 🤩

    6:50 Oooooorrrr..... you could also use the reverse side of the fabric, or a different fabric if it's not reversible. Thanks for the tutorial, new subscriber here!

    I found a beautiful table cloth that is made of heavy fabric. I.think it would make a gorgeous skirt.

    I like the original and the red but I am obsessed with the blue, short, skater skirt! I can imagine a little sexy black lace at the bottom hem….🤔

    These are going to be great for fall, maybe over some leggings and paired with one of your grungy leather jackets. Either would look great with your no sew ruffle concert T upcycle and either your Metallic Jacket or the black leather one with the stars, and some appropriately grungified boots! Even some of the safety pin upcycle tops!

    You could use the red one as a poncho

    I sure wish I'd found you 3 months ago, I desperately needed to know how to make this for a plaid overskirt for Highland Weekend at Ren Faire!😂❤❤ Now do you have any videos on a simple gathered skirt for a beginner?❤
