    DISCLAIMER: My use of the term "Waifu" in this video is only for ease of reference and understanding for the audience only. I do not endorse or condone the negative connotations that underlie the term itself.

    From a hobbyist standpoint and not an investor, I think the trainer cards shouldn't be priced so hard to begin with tbh.
    $100 is where I stop to collect cards because then it starts to really hurt.

    Biggest lesson on 'Buy what u like', collected trainer SRs since SM, evening dipping into BW, XY era during 2020/2021. If you collect what u like, there isn't much of a downside considering I bought a lot of my cards at almost 10-20% current market prices. Everyone chasing the next big hype were the ones burned (I did also take some Ls rushing to collect some remaining bigger cards before they became too expensive) but pay what ur comfortable paying, saw a few horror stories of people in Japan taking out loans to buy during the hype, only to lose more than 50% post hype. I think prices now atm are good for collectors, and I am slowly picking up more SM era cards when I can atm.

    Great video. I’m a genuine full art Japanese collector and seller on eBay. It’s has been an insane time over the last few years. I’ve still managed to come out ahead by making more gains than loses but definitely made some bad fomo purchases. But I’m now picking up some insane deals which means I’m getting cards I never thought I would own. Cheaper than years ago in some cases.Thanks for the vid and surprised there aren’t many vids on this topic.

    I still think it’s so disgusting and weird that people call them waifu cards and collect them that way. Most of these so called waifus are minors or look like one. It’s so weird. You won’t see that same hype for many of the female trainers that look like adults let alone male trainers.
    Cynthia is my favourite character and I thought her cards would be more expensive since I knew that people call female trainer cards “waifu” cards and boost their value into oblivion. I was surprised to get my Cynthia cards for 10-30€.
    I mean one one hand I’m glad because some of my favourite characters like Giovanni and Ghetsis are cheap as heck bc of it, but it also rubs me the wrong way seeing that the “cuter” and more childish a trainer looks the more popular and expensive they are.
    So yeah TLDR: Burn creeps. There’s two things I hate in this hobby: Investors and weirdos. So I’m glad both are losing their money right now.

    Why are 90% of these "Waifu" cards literally children. I'm aware that canonically in the games most trainers are kids that we see but I hate the community referring to them as that since I feel like the meaning has changed to "a character I have a crush on" vs its original meaning.

  • @silikdo6514
    @silikdo6514 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The concept of "Waifu" works probably only for the japanese otaku culture and some other asian countries. And seeing that only the japanese Version reached such a high pricetags ,comparing to their English counterparts, I get the feeling that the japanese otakus are more "patriotic" about their Pokemon "heritage" and more willing to buy "waifus" for that price.
    Also the "Waifu"-Tags only works as long if there is no further Character development in Anime/Manga. If the Waifu you adore got a BF/Hubby or shows obvious Love Interest in the MC you sure bound to see a whole S-Storm of Ripped/Burned/Trashed Cards on Social Medias.

    • @RayQ101
      @RayQ101 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That theory falls apart when you look at other TCGs with a heavier focus on Waifus like Weiss Schwarz. Every “waifu” card is multiple times more expensive in English than Japanese.

      @@RayQ101 Touché

    • @kmz6066
      @kmz6066 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RayQ101 not when you factor in the print quality + much better texture quality on the waifu cards, also factoring in the fact that Japanese prints are a lot lower than English especially for SM and back. E.g- compare Ultra Prism Lillie vs SM4+ Lillie, the JP one is more expensive for a reason, bigger wallets are more interested in Japanese than English Full Arts due to the much lower pop and better texture/colour/quality. For SV I think it applies a little less since the texture difference between the two has bridged a little closer.
