the fish was until I tried to grab the tail..was HUGE!

Usually my lures are floaters so it does not snag...for small game 1/2 oz egglead no floaters...good luck
Look at the videos of the GTs or bluefin trevally..54 strikes and I would say 44 of them is with my goto lures...also 22 strikes of 54 is from my signature lure Papa Joe..landed 10 lost 12 lures to the fish..

Joe, I have to say you are a crazy fishing god... I have had battles but not like this. Makes me think all the hype of these super expensive reels and poles are just hype. Looks like you are a senior citizen like me. Fishing off the reef for me is my passion for more than 25 years. never landed a big gt yet but maybe there is hope. Of all the thousands of casts and some big bites , the key is don't quit. I'm from Guam so many places to fish and lost of GTs here but I will always release them. Al

Actually no record exists as such light tackle.. fighting it 20# braid esp 100# gt....think my video got too much profanity on the landing...but its a challenge for me on a 7ft trout rod..

Valentin Loghin thks for watching..its a 7ft St Croix MH..Premier...have landed 18 with Fenwick HMG 7ft or 6.10 HMX MH, 1 on a st Croix and 1 on a penn battalion I prefer the 6.10..
JOE OLIVAS thank you for the fast answer. Those Fenwick rods are excelent rods for the money, do they are 1 or 2 pieces!?
Started with the 2 pcs HMG Heavy..but broke 2 of them while popping a 2oz lure...so they did not have a replacement(warranty)..I had to wait over 45 days for another HMG from fenwock and opted for the 6.10 HMX..thats my favorite...on my vids..I battled a turtle 100# for 2 hrs and 17 minutes on the 6.10 rod..cant beat the price..the st croix was $200 my HMG about half that price..only thing 5 year warranty the HMG is lifetime...>>> >>> Subject: FW: links 100# GT

Freeking amazing! I have never seen an ulua or GT that huge caught from the shoreline while whipping. You have the perfect technique for whipping in Kauai. I know it differs from place to place. I just visited Kauai spent 2 weeks there had two ulua strikes after whipping 20 plus hours. I only caught 1 omilu 11 lb ulua. All my fishing was on south shore but very they are very hard to catch? MrRichventurarv No problem..I have been fortunate to catch quite a few GTs and Omilus since I started the "Quest for the Omilu" in 2012..lost quite a few...a learning process...now I am comfortable with the spheros and 6ft rods or less..different technique of whipping and tying knots..and lures..I only use the kaku, orca and recently the windcheater..look me up when you come down..

Learning to fish the ocean, just moved to Hawaii a year ago and stoped fishing for a little bit. As far as reef shoes that’s all I’m missing I feel at this point. Have taken many tips and tricks to apply from you uncle but I gotta get me some reef shoes. Any suggestions anybody

Mistermatsuda...fish length 58.5 inches..Fish weighed about an hour after landing it..bathroom scale at 105...weighed 3 hours later at Lihue Fish Express certified digital scale 99.2...why we took 2 hrs..had to find a cooler, get ice, went to 4 different stores (Pono Market, Big Save, Foodland,Safeway)and we could not weigh it. Ended calling Alan from Fish Express in town to get it weighed.
Wow it dropped a lot of weight in a short span of time! I caught one last year in a tournament on the big island, Puna, my first Ulua, weighed it two days after we caught it and it weighed in at 98#. I wonder what the weight at gaff was...not official for the 100 club but I’ll take it...was an awesome blessing...aloha
@@SteadyBark96720 congrats on that monstah..according to what I have read..keep the fish in water n ice for a day or so it will gain weight because water gets into the stomach..dont know if that is true..my fish on a bathroom scale was #105. n Job had already bled the fish before we brought it to the scale in a trash bag no ice...but the tackle is the most important thing for something that large plus the video tops it off..

Scuba Mike is the person I helped in his youtube channel, he is doing quite well...he is in Oahu..the person that helped me is a friend of mine, his name is Link Link...he is the guy who came up to me on the shoreline and helped me bring the fish up on the rocks, Job was the guy doing the video, he watched the complete from strike to landing..he is on the hill in the video on a bike.., the fish went to him since he had a Big family..

Sorry so late..yes weighed it 3 hrs after landing..could not find certified scale that could weigh 100#. Was weighed at FISH EXPRESS Lihue certified scale 99.2#.
