Unironically, I think you should cut Sol Ring for a Bird of Paradise. They're both one-drops and the BoP will make it easier to summon Atraxa on turn four, as opposed to the Sol Ring that only works if you draw other ramp cards
Are you guys going to play them against each other? It would be really funny to see the chaos when four atraxas are on the board and can all proliferate each counter on the board.
A friend once said there weren't enough uniquely named counters to make Perrie the Pulverizer good so I made a spread sheet of all the uniquely named counters in Bant... It's up around 130 now...
It's funny that when I first started playing, Atraxa's art really stood out to me. Took 5 years to eventually build her and I made an Explore/Plot/Adventure theme deck cause I too am a deck building hipster😅
I made a hydra tribal deck with Atraxa as my first and only build of her. It’s pretty fun to always have what I call a “perfect blocker” and “removal magnetic” to support hydras. Giving hydras white also gives them access to white staples and damning verdict.
@@mxdbrry0250 I love this idea! Kalonian Hydra has been one of my favorite cards ever since it was printed. I’m not using it to its fullest potential currently, but the thought of the good ol’ days makes me want to build another +1/+1 deck.
@ Kalonian hydra is a MVP of the deck for sure. The best card tho is one that went under the radar in MH3 called Nyxborn Hydra. It has a bestow ability that that can make Atraxa insanely oppressive. Preciate the like and cool video idea!
I found this in my recommended feed and i understand why cause his video is perfect! I love the execution of the concept, great work and i'm excited to watch more stuff you've made
Best atraxa I ever saw was jitte Voltron. The whole idea is to find lost and umezavas jitte. It always finds and protects the jittes. Gives atraxa protection, unblockable and double strike. Double strike and proliferate make the charge counters on the jitte just crazy. With rule of law effects, jitte abilities become more powerful and control the board Effects that force players to attack only with one creature usually means that atraxa player is unattackable. Finisher is combat but lost jitte and simic ascendeny have such a cool synergy also. Reanimate/play atraxa, equip it for free, get a huge amount of charge counters, control the board.
You could use "finality counters" and move them onto your opponent's creatures. You could move/remove the "age counters" therefore not have to pay increasingly each upkeep
Personally, I've built atraxa 11-12 times, all different themes. Never played her once lol. This is a very unique take, and very fun to connect with the unique rulings video.
@@theArcosa she's surprisingly fun to build around. Proliferation is a very stretchy mechanic. I usually shy away from the more popular commanders but maybe I will play her after watching this. Unrelated, my friend just built their first commander deck, and it was orzhov bats! I immediately shared your bat video with them ❤️
This comment hints at a hidden truth: Atraxa is #1 because people brew her to death on paper, not because they actually have the decks constructed or even own a single copy of her. I have one Atraxa brew and it is my actual Atraxa deck.
I finished my Atraxa build last week, got to play the deck for the first time last weekend. I built it in the same way as you did here, but not necessarily with as many unique counters as possible. I just wanted to play some weird counters, and chose the ones that seemed most fun to me. A lot of the cards do match with your deck though. When I pulled out Atraxa, the table started to moan about it already, but when we started playing they all looked at all the cards I played with a lot of interest. Was a blast to play with (and to play against, if I'm to believe my opponents).
Storm of Forms is actually really good. Any board wipe that works very one sidedly and gives you selection to remove the best things are great. I say this as someone who has built this deck, because I had two Bant decks and wanted to upgrade Perrie to a 4C deck using Atraxa. Working towards the 32 challenge, and this is a fun and unique way to build it. I opted for a little less unique counters and more things that generate more types of counters. Like Crystalline Giant and one of the Elspeth's. Either way, it was a super fun and unique way to build the deck. It opens up access to unique lands as well. There's one that uses gemstone counters or something to produce any color. Normally you only have 3 activations, but if you proliferate, it's got endless uses and that's excellent in a 4 color deck.
This is very similar to a mono-blue Chisei deck I built. It is a massive pain to keep track of all the weird counters going around, but it's probably my favorite deck for how wacky it is
What if instead of Mystic Remora, you used one of the cumulative upkeep cards that scale on your age counter amount? Phyrexian Etchings is a lot more useful than normal when you can draw two cards on your first end step where it has an age counter. Vexing Sphinx can similarly give you more draw than it costs in discards. Hibernation's End might be my favorite though, as you effectively have two degrees of control over how big of a creature you tutor out. You can go from 1 to 3 to 5 and so on, or opt out of proliferating for any even mana value creatures you want to fetch. In any case, great video - I hope the deck does well!
4:48 I'm going to say yes. I've got a few decks where I've given myself restrictions, such as a Riku deck that only has cards I can copy (no Sol Ring or any other mana rock there), and it's always been a lot of fun to see where that takes me.
I BUILT THIS YEARS AGO HELL YEAH! Atraxa unique counters was such a fun project to work on when I did it years ago and I love seeing others try this out as well.
Also, because I built it years ago there have been many new counters that have come out ever since I took the deck apart. I ran into the "I don't care what your theme is, it's Atraxa so you're the threat" issue and didn't want to try and get people to listen anymore lol.
The points about unique counters is cool and very painfully accurate that the cards are mostly trash, but you can do dumb fun crap with them! Try that concept with something like Perrie, the Pulverizer.
I run an Incubator token Atraxa deck and use Mana dorks like Kami of Whispered Hopes and Gyre Sage, as well as mana rocks like Replicating Ring, Everflowing Chalice, and Astral Cornucopia.
Neat, Atraxa Bowl is back in town though I am kinda surprised Musician couldn’t make the list or the video- Multiple music counters don’t do much, but a funny tax is a tax.
This is probably the most unique thing anyone could do with Atraxa that makes even a lick of sense. I'm not sure if it could get any more unique than this
I have been considering building Atraxa focused on old border cards like Icatain Javaliners, Saproling burst, etc.. maybe Tetravus / doubling season? Lots of old jank with a couple newer bombs to power it up. Surprisingly similar to what you have done here great to see this, Awesome build
I'm surprised Night Dealings isn't in the decklist. It an enchantment that makes theft counters whenever any source you control deals damage to an opponent, and then lets you tutor for 2BB and X theft counters where X is the tutored card's mana value.
@@ShotofDespresso I thought about it, but it costs at least 8 mana and a successful attack to tutor your first thing, which you still have to cast! It’s definitely neat though!
Reminds me of my first atraxa deck, also built around weird counters, but not to this extent. Parallax Wave (fading counters to exiles things) was an all star.
Fishing Atraxa is so funny! If I were to do this challenge I would do Fishing Pole as secret commander and have Atraxa go fishing finding ways to absolutely abuse Fishing Pole to the max.
Once tried to do the Hipster Grouphug Atraxa build a couple years back (copied from Commander Cookout's Turbo Fog Atraxa style) to do "proliferate enemy counter" shenanigans, tho now that Xavier Sal, and later Ms. Bumble Flower came in, I'm likely to split the difference, tho I might miss out on white proliferate shenanigans. Very happy to see another real good use for Unique Proliferate with Unique Counters Only (and also seeing a couple cards I saw on scryfall for my own is neat). One of the other tech specic to mine would've been getting out a Kros while handing out counters with a sheltering ancient or even a forgotten ancient (as well as other Group Hug +1/+1 shenanigans). Alongside stuff like Generous Patron, you could've really pushed the Support theme if only to diversify any of the more generic +1/+1 stuff. Still might be hard to judge Power and Consistency considering just how reliant on "rando specific counter" you need to keep track off, but if you were to cut anything between "bad counters" or "do nothing when proliferate", you could just increase your Proliferation tech for consistencies sake.
I use crystalline giant's counter order to keep track of counters for my falco spara deck, with a copy of it on the side to display what counter is what, in 1-10 on a d10 above the counted dice.
Did something like this years ago; avoiding infect, +1/+1 counters, energy, sagas, etc.... just proliferating interesting counters on cards that would otherwise be pretty much useless. I'll admit that I didn't specifically restrict myself to unique counters, however.
I have mine as something of a "Counter Tribal"... Transmogrifying wand, As Foretold, Oracle's Vault, Wishclaw Talisman, Umezawa's Jitte. Could get silly with Indominus Rex, Alpha and The Ozolith tossed in for good measure.
You've already got a source of deathtouch counters but I'm a big fan of kappa tech-wrecker in proliferate decks, for repeatable artifact and enchantment removal (provided you can get it to connect).
I was about to type about contagion and then you commented on it. Who doesnt want bad removal thatll make everybody pick up your card and go, "This is a real card?" Especially with the alliances printing. Its not about winning, its about making everybody confused about what your cards actually do
My Atraxa deck is a sticker deck. The tickets that make them are actually counters that can be proliferated, and once one is on Atraxa, there’s basically no way for your opponents to remove them, because you can always choose to move her to the command zone, which is a public zone.
