ALL the reasons why Nadu shouldn't be banned | MTG
I recall in the past where magic would print a lot of blank vanilla creature cards that were completely textless, at the time I hated them. They were bloat they did nothing interesting aside from the occasional inspired flavour text. I still don't like them, but I understand they are at least simple to pick up and play, they had a purpose of sorts. Now it seems they have the opposite problem, adding too much text to every card in order to make it unique, which has the problem of turning a quick game into a delve online to understand how it interacts with whatever equipment or enchantments happen to come into play. (Aside from set mechanics that I feel are appropriate for the given set which at least apply to most/all cards in a given set so are therefore worth understanding and learning). Anytime I see or play a more complex card I have to look online sometimes to find out how other people interpreted it. How I interpret the rules as written is different to how the various online communities do so. I'm sure this has created many arguments in the past before the internet. Some cards are intentionally designed this way, i'm okay with them. But other cards that just fill the sets with excessive rules bloat and grind the game to a halt do nothing to make the experience fun. It's like the game is designed for different competing purposes, to lure in newcomers with it's complexity and depth. And to force them to engage with the game on a deeper level once they get larger collections. And to then hammer them on their previous understanding of the game by introducing yet another new mechanic or twist to flip up the formula. Some I appreciate as means to fix mana problems in the game, how they introduced multicolour lands is fun. I've never drawn a unique multicolour land and been upset by it. I'm always happy to learn how they work. and I appreciate their purpose, they recognise the issues with the game and offer in-game "fixes" of sorts to address them. But a big or unique card that is like 1 or 2 in a box that flips the game logic for 1 specific interaction feels more like a chore to me. I do still want unique cards, and it's obvious the game designers love making them as does the community but there has to be limits on how complex or how wide ranging they can be and how many rules they can break/create at any 1 time.
I’ve been playing Magic for about 12 years and there’s a lot of cards even I don’t play because of how wordy and hard to remember they are. Newer cards have a hard time sinking in than they should
Would spatial binding meet the criteria of a mechanically unique card? As far as I'm aware it's the only card that prevents cards from phasing out.
I hace rage extractor and when cheching scryfall it sais that the phyrexian symbol is shortened as P not H.
Please give me the details on the Panglacial Wurm / Raggadragga tech, I must know
11:02 if someone said that was a Labrador i would believe them.
What about Obsidian Charmaw? Similar to Break the Ice it "costs {1} less to cast for each land your opponents control that could produce {C}." I know this effect wouldn't last until resolution because it's a casting condition, but isn't that also a unique mechanic to this card (cost reduction based on "could produce")?
6:05 Wait, wait, wait. Garth's copies are created outside the game? As in, they are legal objects, but aren't in any recognized game zone before you cast them? That's wild. If they were somehow cards, instead of copies, could you fetch them with a wish? Do they technically become part of your sideboard until you cast them?
I never realized Trinisphere was mechanically unique. I just figured it was the only good one!
Stax is bad nowadays tbh. In casual you don't play it because there is no point in pubstomping In cEDH it's bad because people play efficient removal and your chance for locking up the table is very slim.
Tiny MONSTER!
Please elaborate on the Henzie and Zinnia rulings being not functional
"Hey, I know this video is really long..." *be me* *check video runtime* *be shocked video is only 22 minutes*
I run alot of other ways to reanimate creatures. I honestly use winter to bring back enchantments or artifacts most of the time, because thats what makes him unique. I Also run a landfall sub theme...kinda? Since you can't reanimate ramp spells i tend to not rely on them to get to my lands. I have things like hedge shredder and aftermath analyst to put a bunch into play at a time, so i also run payoffs like field of the dead and ob nixilis to create wincons out of nowhere. Nissa of Shadowed Boughs also ties both strategies together well since she gets loyalty counters on landfall and can use them to either untap a land or reanimate a creature with a lower cost to the lands you have in play. I know you arent supposed to go off the rails with mutiple strats like that but in winter if you dont have the lines to play the landfall stuff you can just...exile it for what you DO need/want. Winter is a bit unorthodox but he gives reanimate decks a bit more freedom and can play cards that others might not have room for. Super fun commander! archidekt.com/decks/10869297/winter_with_upgrades this is the list in question, i dont own field and ob nixilis yet but im going to be adding them soon
Shout out to My boy "chains of mephistopheles" for being one of the few cards with Oracle text that starts with "here is what happens when You cast chains of mephistopheles"
oo what's the unique ruling for Kaya the Inexorable?
Turning ramp into card draw, card selection and a board state is too busted
At uni I printed a physical rule book, but damn it got outdated quickly
I have a Niko deck that goes absolutely nuts, they're my favorite commander right now. Silverwing Squadron, Cybermen Sqaudron, and Auton Soldier are all must-haves for this deck 🤙
What about quenchable fire? Doesn't it create a special action?
Unfortunately it has Gruul color identity. My Tawnos deck would have loved him in the 99.
14:50 by no means am I an expert in rulings they same way some of you all are, but my mind immediately jumped to Cyclopean Tomb here as well
The meme is real, but they are so low cmc it isnt worth it
"I know this videos really long" I'd watch a 3.5 hour version of this video
I want to keep subscribing to bat facts!
I have a feeling a bat made this video. But jokes aside I loved everything about this thank you a lot
Cryptic command is my fav card, and if i were to play textless version now, I'd have to look up the exact wording on some of those abilities. 😂 Grant it, I haven't played cryptic command since the unjustified banning of Mystic Sanctuary.
Not to be that guy but the Peregrine Falcon is actually fastest due to its drop speed.
@@alexanderiverson707 The Mexican free-tailed bat is the fastest mammal on Earth. Falcons aren’t mammals! 😜 Later on, I specify that free-tailed bats also have the fastest sustained horizontal flight speed of any animal. Diving is an expression of aerodynamics, but horizontal flight also includes power and endurance. The fact that little (truly tiny) bats can maintain such speed is commendable.
Would you give PreDH a try? i really like that format.
@@Cynidecia My views on preDH are the same as why I don’t play things like World of Warcraft Classic or similar. I’ve already played it and I would rather experience the new evolution of the game. Just a personal preference though.
@@theArcosa Ok thats fair. Im just hoping to see some videos for it or promoting it from people, its very underrated RN.
That’s cool anyway more zombies pls
My version of stax isnt stopping other people from doing things, its me stopping them from stopping MY thing.
Love to find a fellow bat-nerd. Instant sub, even if I didn't also love magic. I'd been wanting Bat Tribal to be viable in commander (without resorting to Morophon and a bunch of changelings) for years. Then they released Aclazotz and I felt like I'd just been Monkey-Pawed since I didn't want to play discard-shutdown. Bloomburrow was a blessing, but I'd love to have more bats.
It's too bad bats are the most common vector for the transmission of rabies
@@brutusthebear9050 It’s regrettable but animal-borne illnesses aren’t rare (e.g. swine flu, bird flus, plague). Bats shoulder a lot of the blame because their immune systems are so robust that they select for deadly diseases. However, in many cases, zoonoses of all sorts spread most often due to human influence. Since you mention rabies, though, I would like to point out that globally the human infection rate of rabies is around 99% from dogs. If you are watching from the US, rabies from dogs is rare due to our fastidious vaccination program. From the 40s to the 90s, the main vector in the US was actually the raccoon and would remain so until the early 2000s. Since we started vaccinating raccoons in the late 90s, that number has steadily decreased and bats have only taken their #1 spot (~30% of cases in US) within the last decade. This statistic is often thrown around, but in context, rabies is quite rare not only in humans, but also bats. Less than 1% of bats have rabies in nature, but the bats we test are more likely to have it (we only test the ones that seem rabid), so there is also confirmation bias at play. This doesn’t mean that wildlife isn’t dangerous to handle, or that we should put down all dogs / raccoon / bats-but that there’s a bigger picture and the conflation of bats = rabies is harmful. (Not accusing you of doing this, but it is a widespread misconception.)
@theArcosa Bats account for 33% of all wildlife rabies cases in the US while racoons are, as you said, 30%. While rabies may in fact be rare in bats, it remains true that most people who get rabies will get it from a bat. Further, bats and humans rarely interact because we have different sleep cycles and they fly (as well as trying to avoid people). So if someone comes in contact with a bat, there is a good chance that it is rabid (as it would be acting abnormal). Much like how a racoon approaching in broad daylight means it is likely rabid. Trust me, I have a real appreciation for bats. Gnats swarm here during the summer and bats are their main predator. But I would never interact with a bat directly if I can help it.
@@brutusthebear9050 I agree and don’t think that ANYONE should approach any form of wildlife unless the situation calls for it. The 30% value I cited was accounting for the fact that only 90% of cases in the US are from wildlife, hence 33% of 90% is 30%. Raccoons account for 27% of rabies cases in the US. However, this is ONLY in the United States and globally, dogs are still #1. The 99% statistic was not an exaggeration.
@theArcosa Yes, but it's important to remember that places that are more likely to have wild dogs, poor healthcare, and a lack of education about rabies are where the majority of rabies cases would be found. Comparing 1:1 between 1st world and 3rd world on this doesn't make sense, any more than comparing GDP of countries with wildly different populations. To get a useful number, you would have to divide the cases for a specific animal by the total cases in that country, and then average those numbers together. I think this adjusted number would have a less extreme bias toward dogs. It should also be noted that humans and dogs are around eachother far more. If 1% of dogs have rabies and 50% of bats have rabies, humans will still get rabies from dogs far more often than bats, simply because we roll the dice (so to speak) more often with the 1% odds.
@@brutusthebear9050 That’s the crux of why I bring all of this up in the first place. Bats are only highly-ranked in rabies transmission in 1st world countries, and only recently took the #1 spot. Our neglect of bats and mistrust of them is feeding into the stigma, which in turn worsens the situation. I don’t follow what you mean by isolating each country’s statistics. The 99% statistic is not comparing 1st and 3rd world. It includes 1st world countries on a global scale, so isolating individual countries would only push the transmission rate from dogs in many, many countries closer to 100%. This isn’t bias; it’s fact. Your point about dogs interacting with humans is salient-and this is why I brought up raccoon vaccines in the first place. Dogs interact with humans, so our regulations have helped greatly. We only worked on raccoons in the United States because they were becoming a problem. Few are willing to work on bats. Once again, bats ARE the #1 vector for rabies ***in the United States***, but only recently. The same way you say comparing the 1st and 3rd world is unfair, it’s unfair to then say that bats are “the most common vector of rabies” (in regard to your original comment) when (1) we neglect them and (2) rabies is not an endemic health issue for places where bats are the highest transmittors. In every place where rabies is a real issue, with a margin of 95-to-1, the most common vector (99%) is dogs. The most common vector for rabies is dogs. SARS, Marburg, or Nipah are better examples of demerits for bats. But, those are discussions for another time.

I need CGB to show all of these cards to Cimooo and Rarran O_O

Chance for glory is an interesting one that could be counted as a mistake. Creatures you control gain indestructible forever. If you find a way to not lose the game (platinum angel, lich’s mastery) your creatures are indestructible forever.
It's definitely cool, but Riding the Dilu Horse have a permanent buff long before.
Did you recognize any other cards as being similar to Mexican Free Tailed Bats? As a native Texan Mexican, the species js really close to my heart.

Okay that bat lore theory goes really hard for a duskmourn bloomburrow crossover
How is he a Fomori Giant? He looks like a Pokemon
@@SwedeRacerDC He’ll grow!
@theArcosa Still, other than the fact the MTG is clearly trying to snipe Pokemon fans, why do young Fomori look like that? It's "baby Yoda" all over again.
"How is this small wrinkly creature ever going to become a human?"
Dissipation Field is the only card that cares about permanents dealing damage. (not creature, nor source)
i could hardly process the video cause i was just thinking about orbs the whole time. orb themed deck. orb themed commander. wotc needs to errata all balls orbs and spheres to have the subtype "orb". then you can have a commander that casts ponder if you have an orb. so much untapped potential
@@virtuousvarmint1548 “Untapped” potential is a nefarious pun when talking about Winter and Static Orbs

The mechanics of Absorb and Frenzy exist on other cards but not as keywords
I thought the Büttikofer’s bat was a fake, but no! That’s actually what their heads look like. They do look like someone took a small dog’s head and has sewn it onto a bat’s body.
Technically aren't there several "subgame" cards, but in un-sets? Since you've included un-cards elsewhere I'm surprised they don't get mentioned. That aside, really interesting video. Even just from the thumbnail it was interesting to look up Panglacial Wurm and see its effect.
@@grim66 I stipulated at the beginning that I wouldn’t count silver-bordered and acorn cards because the CR don’t treat them as real cards! All the Un-cards in the video are legal in eternal formats.
@@theArcosa Oh right, I guess I forgot about that distinction, sorry
"The Right Way" By throwing that trash into the can where it belongs. What, you gonna make a whole deck of 99 counterspells and 1 wincon next? No one likes playing with you, Greg.
To me, these are actually quite mechanically normal. Just a glimpse into my sick and twisted mind.
Crazy that we would think a 23-minute video is long when we watch podcasts that last hours regularly. I found this video to be the perfect length. Thanks for the content
I feel kind of weird about it, like somehow the most digestible content is either 30 sec or 2 hr long. Maybe I’m weird though 😂
I feel like Dimensional Breach is also mechanically unique, letting players return cards from exile directly to the battlefield for no cost. just a thought though
Any blink card or Oblivion Ring effect does something similar though.
