It's so messy. I don't doubt for a second there are people, even presenters that don't go along with what they have to present but do it for their family, livelihood, the position. And if they get too annoyed and disillusioned and speak out, well they'd be buried and lose everything they worked for. At the same time, there's definitely presenters who believe the propaganda they have to present. After watching the wire fully, I now understand the amount of systems in different organizations, state departments, it all. It's a fucking labyrinth and it's no wonder things rarely feel like they improve.

You say this is unlike the BBC yet a program aired recently of the history of events where the BBC split with an establishment narrative. It was a three part one hour each series so quite a few historical events.
      Subjects such as:
Unbiased Interviewing of the IRA leadership.
Maggie's poll tax (which eventually took her out of power)
Diana, which lost the Queens speech for one Christmas to ITV (out of spite from the royal family)
The Iraq war and David Kelly death inquiry.
      David cameron (pig scandal)
      Many more besides.
In each case the BBC did some excellent journalism and were threatened by government or had the chief exec removed from the BBC mostly by government.
It also showed its own failings such as the jimmy Saville coverup.
The conclusion unfortunately is the BBC are not allowed to be a fully independent news outlet when successive governments control the oversight panel and can fully censor what airs in advance.
Thatcher, one of the worst in regards to BBC censorship acted like a dictator presiding over the BBC.

@@ljt3084 Thank you so much for your post! I had begun to think that I was the only one who watched this excellent series; did you mention that it was hosted/narrated by David Dimbleby? He's been a BBC man all his life, like his father, and brother too, I believe. He pulled no punches on the various mistakes and badly-thought-out policies by the BBC, he showed no fear or favour to anyone.
The government wield huge power over "our" BBC, in a way that the commercial channels don't need to face, and it's all wrong.
I saw some really hard-hitting commentaries during the whole debacle of choosing the replacement for the previous idiot, from financial experts who genuinely know their subjects, and it was enough to give me nightmares. Unfortunately, those programmes tend to be late at night, and unlikely to be a good time to watch if you need to get up early for work.
This government has so many double standards, it would be funny if it wasn't so serious. They claim to want a free press, but will censor and undermine an internationally renowned corporation like the Beeb. I despair.

If she was managing a supermarket, this week she's given herself and the shift supervisors a big pay rise, promised the shop workers a pay rise only in 3-5 years' time, told anyone using their staff discount that they'll have to pay it back over the next 10 years, and has put the prices up by more than the rival supermarkets had to increase theirs. Also the bakery is still selling cheaper to the supermarket next door, the first aid boxes are being left unreplenished, a third of the qualified first aiders have either resigned or stated they'll likely resign within the year, and the drains are backed up because someone dug into the sewer while looking for the gas pipe. The area manager is not impressed by her excuses.
