One of the top pieces of advice I can give for an SHTF/WORL situation is :”avoid trespassing.” If things are that bad, and you are trespassing. It will likely get very ugly.

Trespassing can get very ugly very quick when things are normal. If shtf and your trespassing you’ll likely just be blasted on sight as it’s the smallest risk for the “defenders” they don’t even have to engage you and put themselves or their position in jeopardy. It’d just be

Best fire starter I know, is dryer lint. I save it in gallon ziplock bags. Doesn't take much, and it's amazing how quickly it accumulates. Understand how it can be augmented by adding vaseline, but I hate the idea of fuel on my fingers in any situation. Dryer lint alone works great to get small tinder going!

    • @craigd6261

Certainly in the UK we have a criminal term, "going equipped" that the police would apply to such things as lock picking tools (or even any sort of pry bar if they are really in a bad mood). If there is still law around post SHTF their interpretation would be very different from ours as to whether you are right or wrong to carry these items, but it makes sense to have the tools at home and the knowledge 'just in case'. Once outside your own property, all bets are off.

If you're trying to gain access to buildings, sometimes carrying destructive entry tools can be best but most of the time covert entry tools are best. For 1: they make waaaaaaay less noise. Noise is a no no at many times. 2: Destructive tools are very heavy. I can carry a double door tool, under door tool, travelers hooks, Mica shims, adams rite picks, jigglers, comb picks, door hinge tool, lock box hinge tool and many other tools all at once in a single bag and all of it together might be 2 pounds. Remember RFID card readers will be down if the grid goes down so you wont need to learn how to rewrite card credentials. Take it from me... its much easier. But it takes time to learn and practice. Before I forget.. many pad locks today are made VERY hard to if not impossible to cut with bolt cutter. They use boron carbide shackles. Again... learn about locks and how to better bypass them.

I know how to use my receiver, and I know it is useful and can receive signals from thousands of miles away, but average people need to know who to listen to, (like gubmint agencies, FEMA, Red Cross, prepper nets) and how to find them on the radio or the frequencies on the Web. "Scanning the bands" is like driving around looking for cheap gasoline.

There is every time law enforcement in place after acm very short time. The laws may differ but every society implements law enforcement. You don't need a federal government or state government in place. The local village will set law enforcement in place. If you want to look for things, organize yourself with the actual organization in charge. Make it "official". When there is a flooding and the infrastructure is destroyed, go to the local fire station or mayor. Tell them, that the ressources that are there have to be secured and divided. There have to be people that secure the grocery store and the goods in the melting freezers have to be rescued and divided before they get bad. You have to organize a big barbecue with all the chicken wings, spare rips and steaks at least on the second day. Everyone is invited (no alcohol!) and you can organize, what has to be done. Fire watch hasvto be organized. Where are disabled/old people and newborn that need help? They have to be supplied out of the grocery store by the organization. Is the medical personel? They have to be organized. If they don't want to leave their family alone the organization has to organize protection and food so that they can provide medical treatment for the citizens.
You have to organize the ressources to use them efficiently. You can organize the scavage. The firemen break the doors of left buildings/shops/companies, four people look for ressources. Money and gold and so on is noticed and removed, so there is no target for looters that are looking for enrichment (and not survival).
Don't plan for the lone wolf scenario that is not existing but in hollywood movies. Plan and prepare for realistic scenarios where the local society has to face and overcome a difficult crisis. It has to be organized locally. Prepare for this. Health Care, Protection, rules enforcement, fire protection (bucket chains, fire watch), water supply, food supply, debris removement, communication (walkie talkies, church bells, trompets, drums, alert chains, bulletin boards, gun shots,...)
There are nearly no prepper videis out there, talking about these essential thing that you need in 99% of the scenarios, but thousands of videos about the zombie apocalypse and scenarios that didn't happen one time in all the human history.

At a unspecified AFB I was scrounger of technical hardware. Sometimes it was ss tubing other times it was much more high end. But here are few things I would include.
A helmet with a light mounted on the front.
    Hacksaw blades
    Knee pads
A large pipe wrench and cheater bar
    Coveralls
Radio comms with all other members of your group.
Armor if your not on foot and a security detail to cover your ass.
Some times I was digging up fittings near the land fill so a Bobcat.
A battery reciprocating saw this could replace the hacksaw didn’t have these in 1979.
Some type of truck mounted crane note the only time I got in trouble was if I got caught speed was everything that the why of the crane
What I was doing was grabbing hardware from defunked projects mostly but also I was stealing from a new project or or an semi active test area.
So rules were: remove the power to any solenoid valve, remove the mounting bolts, and the cut the service lines as long as the were not Fuels or Oxidizers
Also scrounges have photographic memory you look at everything scrap bins, dumpsters, wall lockers. If you think you need it take it it will not be there next time.

I would add to the kit would be a Klein security bit set. It’s all in one and works with security bolts to open up many things

As for saws I would go with a jab saw that takes Sawzall blades you can replace or swap out blades from demo blades to wood blades to metal cutting blades.

2" cold chisel. That and a few good shots with the backside of that axe will do in almost any lock. You can put a piece of cloth over the end to help dampen the noise just a bit. Also, Harbor freight makes a cheap hand pump for siphoning gas. You just need to buy a longer pierce of tubing to get to the bottom of most tanks.
I call mine my Vulture Kit. Big-ass pack, reusable grocery bags to help carry extra stuff, hatchet, small bolt cutters, hand pump, cold chisel, side cutters, prybar.

12:30 Constitutional: arms! As is the right to keep and bear arms. Federal Jurisdiction?: Firearms, pistol, braces, rifles, swords, Assault Weapons, pepper stray, Taser, Stun gun, knife, bullets, rounds etc? Can't all these alleged Legalese Federal Jurisdiction words be known us arms and wouldn't that keep you in the protections of the Constitution/Second Amendment? Are you a "gun" "owner" (legalese?) or are you a keeper and bearer of arms? It may be a wording technicality, but how many people have been put in prison or executed on a technicality?
