    Mark has been slowly buy the components needed to fit NBT Evo in to his 2013 BMW x5. Mainly for the apple carplay feature but also for the newer faster interface the NBT Evo offers.
    We were hoping to get it working in this video, but have ran in to trouble at the coding phase.

    BMW electronics specialist here. few notes:
    an NBT Evo has 2 kinds of anti theft / anti tampering mechanisms.
    One is Coding Lock, in a nutshell once it is VO coded with a VO that differs too much from what it was originally coded to it will lock itself, give 'no signal' on the screen and from that point on it can be detected in e-sys but no longer will be able to be coded. This protection can be removed by special means.
    Second is Component Protection, once the Evo is installed in a car with a different VIN your FSC's (activation codes generated for the cars vin to enable nav, ispeech, carplay, sat radio, etc) it will reject all these codes. That's been this way since the CIC iDrive. Evo's took that a step further, once the fsc's are rejected component protection is triggered and you will not be able to import any fsc's anymore even if they were for the cars vin. Component protection can be removed by uploading a special FSC to the Evo that has te sole purpose to reset the tripped component protection and from there on you can import FSC's again.
    During the coding process you need to be very careful and thoughtful to not trip these anti tampering mechanisms.
    I guess you botched that and now it is coding locked since you said it cannot be coded anymore.
    Best is to ditch the emulator and get an FSC set made to your vin (I can hook you up with that :) ).
    Just do it properly man.
    Next the ethernet problem.
    ethernet is actually called OABR on the Evo.
    It needs to run from the BDC module to the evo and from the ATM module to the evo.
    You'll actually need both connections since for component protection to be initialised the first time it needs the OABR connection Evo BDC. Don't hook up an enet cable directly to the OABR, if you do your wiring properly you will be able to do all needed coding and what not via the OBD plug.
    Get yourself an OABR loom from BMW (P/N 61 11 9 372 330) and an ATM retrofit wiring loom from ebay.
    Lay the ATM loom from the trunk to the dash and remove the pins from the pre-installed OABR plug that connects to the evo.
    Install the pins in the OABR plug connected to the loom from BMW. Then run the other end of the OABR loom over to the right side footwell where the BDC module lives. Remove the existing ethernet pins from the smallest connector on the BDC (these ethernet wires go to the quadlock and are not needed anymore) and plug the pins from the OABR loom into the connector on the BDC.
    That's it for the wiring.
    Oh and you'll also need the WLAN antenna for Carplay to work, they are dirt cheap over at BMW (P/N 61 11 9 372 321).
    Feel free to send me a message if you want to go the proper route, i can help you with part numbers, schematics, even remote coding ;)

    This "bypass" or can filter ist not required. Nbt evo can be coded to your vin without any problems.

  • @igotaction
    @igotaction 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Welcome to F/G series! It's attempt 1. E-sys is more finicky. BMW are trying to get people to brick modules. The only way I think to do it is to go through the X5 stock units and check settings like everywhere and then make sure the X4 unit is same. I think the headlight modules record mileage and VIN codes too

    My brother did this on his F30 3 series he installed the ID6 with touch screen. The very first time you connect a new unit to the car it will look for the vin and if it’s not the same it will lock itself. This is the security feature. He had it bench coded and all works fine I’ll see if I can get you the details from where.

    You probably coded your VO to the NBT EVO, perhaps even with a different country code? EVO will lock itself and you need a so-called VO FIX or patch. This will allow the EVO to be coded to every VO (as long als SALAPA matches). Also, in this patch, you can patch the unit to your VIN with according FSC's so you won't need an emulator any more:) It also includes Carplay. Check it out at FEMTOEVO

    Once you've set the vin correctly on the NBT EVO you should be able to remove the ali-express dongle.
    If you've managed to brick the NBTEVO with a wrong VIN then you'll need a full fsc repair set - that will also get you the car play activation.
    You'll find some good suppliers of FSC sets on www.bimmerscene.com
    However if your going to use the ATM from the M3 you are going to need to code it to the VIN to match the ATM and use the ali-express vin blocker..

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info. Will make sure Mark has been on bimmerscene. Talking to him this morning, he is thinking of not bothering with the ATM module now. He was hoping to use it for Nav and remote access, but with car play he will be satisfied. Need to find out more about the FSC repair set i guess.
