Many people stay in the bubble and engage with other people or things which leads to frustrating the bird. Here's another video that goes over this as well; • 10 Parrot Training Mis...

When Dave said OW I feel like she perked up and started paying attention to him. Clever girl likes to get a rise out of people. I also like how you guys point out how hard this is and how easy the signs are to miss or interpret incorrectly, even for experienced trainers. I feel like it makes people feel better about this hard but worth it task they are attempting. Also the bird making cute noises while Dave was explaining about the quarter was everything.

Training yourself to see and understand a birds behavior is tricky. I feel I'd have to take your classes for a year or two before any of it would start to stick. I appreciate how calm and patient you are with the people as well as the birds. You calmly explain things and don't get frustrated if they mess up, it's really nice to see.

I have been a bird owner for 20 years. My first a Goffin cockatoo. I read everything I could get my hands on trying to learn as much as I could. Back then there were not many books. Internet I was just getting access to and still very limited information. Bird Talk magazine helped me ALOT. Now I have just found your Bird Tricks. Amazing stuff. I must say I started watching tonight (many many of your videos) I have learned alot more tonight then I learned in the last 20 years. I also have a 12 yr old large Sulfur Crested Too ( my Goffin is going to be 21) and a DYH amazon who is 10. The Toos are very good birds and very social. The Amazon does not like anyone but me and if she is out of her cage when company comes , she flies at people and attempts to attack them. I am continuing to watch and learn. A big Thanks for all your information

The thing is I don’t know if I should get a boy or a girl cockatiel or if I should get more than one to help them keep each others company. That's great, just remember that they pick up on our stress/anxiety, so just clear your mind, be calm and I bet things start going your way, you are the boss always but always remember birds trust, what I mean is respect for each other is a great way to turn things to better your relationship with your bird.

start with the simpler stuff first then; target training, or if you're not ready for that, just "being in the same space". once they understand target training, and aren't nervous at just being near you... other tricks get much easier to follow with.
of course.. they're parrots... you're gonna get bit once in a while just because everyone loses focus sometimes, and misses some signs. if you keep up a good relationship with your birds, they probably won't feel the need to bite you tooooo hard, as long as you don't make it a habit lol

I think I have a great relationship with these macaws considering that they are wild, I mean I don't own them, they come to my window daily for some snacks and I give them food with my hand with confidence and one of them lets me pet her once a while, they're very friendly but as wild macaws I can't even train them for real, you know? I was joking a bit, anyway must be nice to try the step up and maybe I will. 😊 Just go to my channel if you want to meet them. 😉

    I love the video but
I keep getting distracted by the possible Skeksis in the background somewhere XD
It's either there's a loose Skeksis in the back room or you've got a bird that things he is one XD

This is a lot to take in at one time. Good thing i take good notes to study and theres a pause button. lol. i just adopted a 10yr old macaw thats been with a man for the past 7yrs. he was super protective of the man and screamed a lot the 2times i visited their home. i even asked the man to step outside a few mins so i could try and interact with the bird. he screamed even more. separation anxiety evidently. He hated the mans wife ,which made me question if he would ever bond with me. he lunged &hissed at her evn whn we were loa d ing him in my car. he was a totally different bird once i took him from the environment. ive had him a week now and still haven't heard him scream at all. he takes food from my hand thru the cage but sometimes he will try to bite so i just back off a minute but dont let him think hes ran me off. i stay within sight with food in hand. when he calms down i offer it again. i hope im doing this correctly. how long do i need to work with him like that before out of cage interaction? im working on learning his body language so i dont mess up any training weve already done. any helpful suggestions will be much appreciated.

@14:30 I thought that was an awesome example. It was easy to read the clues the bird gave and then stepping back to start over!,loved seeing that for some reason. Do you all recommend stepping up in front or from behind? My African Grey used to step up from the front and off from back. Now it’s all from behind. She also has this new habit of acting like she’s going to step up, grabs my finger and rolls on her side. Not letting go of me or her perch or cage. She’s a bit of a nut, and she does some weird hormonal stuff. it’s a bit funny and weird at the same time. Her name is “TILLY”!! And imagine the movie Box Trolls when the crazy dude says “Jelly!!!” That’s how she says her name and then finishes it with a nice raspberry.. what a crazy crazy bird. She’s harder to work with than my Umbrella but it’s also a different bond, he has way bad separation anxiety issues. Even if he can see me, if it’s different rooms he yells. Not always and he’s gotten a lot better in the year he’s been with us. As far as we know he is 11 years old and at the very least we the 4th home. We where told it went owner, pet shop, owner, us so I’m sure noise levels played parts in the many homes.

This is kind of funny but I've been loving the videos from this location in particular because it proves something that I've been trying to warn people of for years: Here you have a room full of parrots and one cage full of Zebra Finches and the finches are /by far/ the noisiest birds in the room! I started out with Zebra Finches 11 years ago and have since adopted several parrots and the Zebra Finches were absolutely the noisiest and most obnoxious birds I've ever had. I often see people recommending finches to people who want a parrot but don't want to deal with the noise level and I always tell them "Hell no!!", get a Pionus, they're practically silent, or a budgie, they may make lots of noise throughout the day but they actually sound very pretty, 2 zebra finches can absolutely be noisier and louder than 20 budgies. Plus Zebra Finches literally make the most annoying beeping and road runner cartoon/spongebob laugh noises on earth!

It’s really interesting to fall into your videos! Very interesting. I’ve watched a handful know and wanted to comment not so much on this particular video in itself but to ask a question. I have worked with people on the spectrum for 15 years. A big part of BCBA training is also that you can do animal behavioral training. Did you find a formal background in this to help? It might sound strange as people and animals are quite different, but at the same time the techniques are very similar. Thanks for the videos, a treat to watch! And your guys love for the animals is paramount. Thank you.
