My dad knew an old lama who had escaped from Tibet in the 80s and 90s, through his sister, a Buddhist. My dad was and is pretty agnostic, but this guy had a HUGE influence on him, more than anyone outside his immediate family. So, besides his wife, children and parents, this man was the most influential person he had ever met in his life. And he only met him about ten times. The lama told him, "I tried acid once. It didn't do anything." Commonly reported among advanced yogis, as you say. My dad would smoke pot with the dude and the guy said that it didn't have much of an effect on him. Well...yeah. My dad and this guy, who told everyone to call him Jack, and who was never his student, still talks about the guy today, 25 years after he 'died'. He's 71 years old, skeptical, resists going to doctors etc. like a typical Boomer but cannot stop talking about a dude he knew a long-ass time ago. He tries to explain away impossible stuff he saw this guy do. (Jack had various siddhis.) What my dad, the consummate conscious capitalist in his younger days, cannot deny, that keeps following him around everywhere, is that Jack was by far the happiest and most content person he has ever met. Jack had nothing to his name but a robe and a rice bowl. My father's skepticism cannot overcome that knowledge. OR the knowledge that Jack died the day and the hour he said he would. Or other things. It's a long list, as is the case with beings like this.
