Secretary of the Navy: Admiral, we've got a big problem
    Admiral: What is it sir?
S.O.N.: It seems we have a boatload of money left over in our budget.
Admiral: Seems like a good problem.
S.O.N. : If we don't spend it right away, they'll cut our budget for sure.
Admiral: We could dig a hole and bury it.
S.O.N: No good. Someone's bound to find out we spent all that money and their ain't a new boat at the dock.
Admiral: Let's sink, excuse me, spend it on this new destroyer program designed around a gun that ultimately will cost too much to use.
S.O.N.: Brilliant! Go fetch yourself another medal out of the cabinet. A big shiny one.

It’s not built to be pretty. It’s built for task and purpose. All weap systems are designed to spec. And now, modular.
My sons built this ship. They are proud of their work. And I am proud to be their father ❤

Forcastle is oddly pronounced line “foaksel”which I always found interesting. Also, it was released and known the Zummy performs really well I’m bad weather when it comes to stability and doesn’t roll no where near her counterparts.

    Guided missile destroyer?
It was supposed to be an "advanced gun system" ship.
Except the AGS is a turkey. So now it is a "guided missile destroyer". Lol!!!
They keep trying to convince us this class is a technological marvel, while dancing around the fact Zumwalt is in fact an epic fail. If you have to repurpose a class of vessel before it fully enters service because the main armament is designed around is not viable, you can not call it a success.

Please get your terminology right. Shells are not bullets. Destroyer is not a class of battleship. In fact class is used wrongly almost throughout the entire video. Please choose a different topic before murdering the subject of naval ship types and weapons systems.

To be fair the Zumwalt is kind of hard to classify as it is larger than the Battleship USS Texas and has cannons designed for long range fire support so it kind of is like a very flimsy battleship wannabe. I personally don't care for this ship much as it's cannons are useless and it's ability to appear as a smaller ship is not very useful once shots are fired. Kind of like a $4,000,000,000 one trick pony. Now I would be interested in a smaller ship with a similar stealthy design to operate as forward scouts/ASW for carrier groups but the Zumwalt class is too large and expensive for such a role IMHO.

    • @garyhill2740
      @garyhill2740 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Destroyers are not a class of battleship, but the size and armament of the Zumwalt type made it, as conceived, more of an amphibious warfare cruiser than anything like a traditional modern destroyer. It was designed to take over the fire support role most recently filled by the Iowa class battleships, so that people might see it as a modern battleship equivalent is understandable.
Except it's main armament is useless. So now they have to scramble to repurpose it so they won't have to admit what a colossal white elephant it is.

While Royal Navy spending most of the money making current technology practical and useable on war machines. I think Royal Navy got it right this time.

@@dosidicusgigas1376 why do people like you think they know anything? The zumwalt is an embarrasing military spending blunder.. and NO THEY MOST CERTAINLY CAN NOT AFFORD THE AMMO..
by the time the first zumwalt was built, the cost of one round of ammo was ONE MILLION DOLLARS. to fill the magazine would cost ONE BILLION DOLLARS. The gun can fire 10 rounds a minute costing a 10 million a minute.. the entire military budget in2018 was 639 billion.. the navy got about 171 billion.. so to fire one magazine would cost the navy almost 1 percent of its total budget.. for a single gun on a single ship. For whst amounts to a glorified artillery round.. not a missile.. a damn gun round..
Theres somethings even the us military cant afford. One of them being ammo for the main gun on the zumwalt class

Even though the ammo was expensive they should have thought about that before they made the gun systems.
Even though the cost of the shells you can't just cut your losses.
Now you have three pieces of junk with no guns.
Not because they can't afford them but because they won't.
