Only the Art of Guitar would try to storm the stage to get a picture of the pedal board for the touring guitar player for Ann Wilson(note the guitarist isn't Nancy Wilson)only to be told by the roadie he can't be on stage and the security guard who gets rude and kicks Art of Guitar out of the venue actually probably lives in a van down by the river.

I went to her show this past Monday & that farley Schweinhundt was acting out that night as well, thing is the bathrooms were right by the side of the stage where he stood taking up extra space. When I came out of the bathroom, I stopped for a second to see the band since I was not near them at my table. He told me to move, so I moved to his left away from him, but he did the same thing to me. I suspect that he's just another unhappy person who thinks he's important, I just thought what nasty bully for no reason.
Ann looked unhappy that night as well and had the same not hitting the notes scenario unfold. I reckoned that it was after a whole lifetime of singing that has worn her voice out. As a band singer, I can relate! The tall straight haired guitarist was amazingly good, they all were. It seems that she scoured and cherry picked the talent that she wanted for her band.

Nuno dude is Ryan Wariner son of legendary country artist Steve Wariner. He is a total beast of a player and one of the humblest dudes you will ever meet.

Ann Wilson played in Jacksonville Florida with Paul Rodgers and Jeff Beck. She put on one hell of a show. Her voice was top notch. Add to it she mentioned that she loved her new home in Clay County. Much to my shock it is not far . Two weeks later I ran into her at Home Depot! Out of all places I got to talk to her and told her Thanks so much for the music and memories. She had some guys with her but I think I was the only one that recognized her. It was awesome.

I got a transistor radio for Christmas in 1974 when I was 12. 3XY was the local rock station in Melbourne Oz. I lived inside that radio for the next 10 years, my life revolved around it. What a decade to live inside a radio. Annie and Nancy Wilson were larger than life goddesses, and Magic Man shoots me straight back to homework at the desk inside my radio and a song so hypnotic that it stopped breath… I can’t believe that Ann is 73 and still rocking it. Where did the years go?
I've been to hundreds of gigs. Yes, there is ALWAYS one security guy that acts way above his station! Well done for not taking him out!!🤘🤘
Nancy being there would have been great. Not for nostalgia, but she’s a great singer in her own right - it’s the blend of the Wilson sisters voices that’s magical

Saw her a few weeks ago in San Antonio. Had the same feelings about the show that you did. To be able to get to see her so up close, I figured it was worth it to let her play whatever she wants. I felt weird that we couldn't get super excited about her new stuff, because we hadn't heard them yet. When you realize she is actually 73, it makes her more amazing. So many of the old Heart Songs had such a huge vocal range, that most 50 year old singers can't even touch. And I can't stop thinking about how great the band was. It says a lot about Ann that she gets so much respect to have these great musicians want to play with her. The intermission in the middle was a little weird, but as an older person (as were many in the audience), we were all happy to get time to get a drink and use the restroom, lol. It'll happen to you. But I think Ann could have worn pajamas and sang nursery rhymes and we would have gone wild for her.
Joining Ann in the group are Ryan Wariner on lead guitar, Tony Lucido on bass, Paul Moak on guitar and keyboards, and Sean Lane on drums.

Thanks for this -- her solo stuff is pretty good and suits her voice. She's often said the stuff she wrote when she was in her 20's has been harder to sing over time, because the songs are high. Check out the way she handles her lower range these days -- pretty impressive.
Ann Wilson's commitment to performing new music and recording new music is why my radio station exists.
If you watch the old footage with the original lineup nancy and ann do a outstanding job as musicians they would have a lot of instruments on stage and had a very good presence 👍 the band don't get the praise the deserve 😮great musicians great voice ann,and Nancy is a accomplished guitarist they put down some kick ass hits in the 70s and 80s anyone over 70 still holding there own still on stage at that age deserves a standing ovation ❤😊barracuda 😂
Holy shit, what a crazy experience! Looking forward to more of these concert review videos, but it’s gonna be hard to top this one lol. Really love when you get into the details from a band/musicians perspective, the technical stuff like the tempo, singing/moog stuff, and choosing good/weaker opening songs in the setlist position. Most of us on this channel are musicians and have our own experiences with these types of things, so it’s cool to hear how the pros do it and your opinion on it!

I bought tickets to all 3 shows of the home coming of the Dog and Butterfly show. In Seattle. Over the years I met all the members of the band and was blessed to party with Roger on his 50th birthday. That woman and the rest of the 70s lineup. Pure magic.

Great review. Good to see younger people still into real music. Turning 60 this year been in bands several times. Real musicianship is a lost art keep up the good work

I recently saw a rental agreement for a similar theater (for concerts). The intermission is required in the contract and I'm thinking that they want those so that the audience buys concessions. If there wasn't an intermission, a significant portion of the audience would skip food and drink until after the show at another location.
When the Eagles came to Met Stadium back in '78, the promoter totally underestimated the manpower needed for the set-up. My friend was in the original staff group & called me to let me know they were hiring more people. We unloaded (I have no clue how many) semi trucks of speakers which formed two walls on stage left and stage right. It was Pablo Cruise in the afternoon, Steve Miller then the Eagles. Another crew member I was working with knew one of the guys who was ringing the front of the stage wearing a security tee-shirt. Before the Eagles came on, we had gone under the stage toward a spot on stage left that formed an L where he was sitting and he invited us up to sit next to him. Around that time it started to rain. Looking back toward the stage, we were about only 15 feet from the stage left mic. My new buddy lit up a joint we passed between the three of us and he wryly noted, "You know...out of 60,000 people...we've got the best f**kin' seats in the house!" We were expecting a great concert. Earlier, another crew member said he had passed by the Eagle's trailer & witnessed two of the band holding Joe Walsh by his feet and dipping him into a bucket of champagne. Shortly after...the lights dimmed, the band came on and kicked right off with Hotel California. The roar of crowd approval reverberated through the stadium and you could feel the energy intertwine with the music. Meanwhile, we're out of the rain and dry because we're sitting on that jog in the stage and slightly under the canopy. Joe Walsh is at that stage left mic position and the entire band is incredibly close. It's SUPER AWESOME!
There was a girl riding on her boyfriends shoulders down in the crowd and making their way to center stage. She had a bouquet of roses which she was throwing one-by-one to the band. I'm pretty sure it was Glen Frey who noticed her and encouraged them to come closer and even picked up a few roses that had made it to the stage. He made a gesture of thanks and acknowledgement as she continued to toss her roses. Meanwhile, under the stage is an overweight security guy (packing a gun!), who's screaming at the couple to get away from the stage. He wiggled his way through the stage cribbing to get out in front and was physically pushing the couple to the point he almost made them fall over. Once he got them forced away from the stage he made his way under again. As he's using his fingers to readjust his greasy looking hair (maybe just wet from the rain)...he's glancing around and sees us two staff guys in beige staff tee-shirts sitting next to the guy wearing the blue security tee-shirt. Now focused on us, he waddles his way towards us screaming, "You staff guys! Get the hell off the stage! Get out of there!" He probably yelled more than that, but that's what I recall. The two of us crawled down and made our way under and toward back stage as Mr. Chris Farley type yelled a few more admonitions after us. I sat and stewed in the rain and listened to the concert and watched an occasional back of a band member's head from backstage. First...actually, probably the only time in my life I thought, "I think I could kill that guy!" Sorry this is so long...but, as you can see, your experience resonated with me! LOL, great review & great story!

The dude with the dreads is named Paul Moak. You can often hear him guesting on a Metallica podcast called Metal Up Your Podcast. He's super chill and has a very soft voice. Really talented guy.
My friend Tony Lucidio is the Bass Player in this band. We are seeing them Aug. 29th at the Egg in Albany, N.Y. so looking forward to it
I know that I will get flack for this, but to me, Heart without Ann and Nancy is like the Stones without Mick and Keith, Aerosmith without Steven and Joe, and Van Halen without Dave and Eddie. (Yeah, I said it.)

OMG, when you started talking about "Chris Farley Guy" I was getting ap in his face. (in my head of course). As for Swifty, really good music totally trumps a flashy show every time. I'd rather see Ann (of Nancy, or Heart) on a small stage any day. The whole "Nancy Shoe" thing? Now that's a souvenier! The guitar? Have her sign it!

Saw Ann last night in Chattanooga. Your review is spot on. I’ve been a fan and attending concerts since’77.
I saw Styx open for themselves early this year. It was a bit weird to see a band leave the stage and then come back, but I think it does have it's advantages.
For the artist, it means that they get to play more songs while also getting a break in-between. They can add newer stuff to the set without sacrificing the hits. They can strategically put certain songs earlier or later so that the performance will be better than usual. It's cool... But still a little weird.
There is a portion of a band's audience that does really like the new stuff, and while they may not be the majority of what's keeping them going financially, they play a part in a band continuing to exist at all instead of retiring.
The Grateful Dead perfected this imo. About an hour and fifteen minute first set, mostly all rockers and shorter songs. A nice half hour break for everyone to hang out, discuss the set, grab a drink, go for a smoke, bathroom, etc., then come back and get weird for about 2 hours. But a Dead show is rather unconventional in pretty much every way.

Heart was one of my top best concerts I went to Ann can still belt out the songs I was lucky to see them back in the day at Hollywood bowl
I'm here in Seattle, where I was born and raised. Heart kind of jumped between Vancouver and Seattle in the late seventies, but I saw them many times. Dreamboat Annie, Dog & Butterfly, Little Queen, those albums were in my top ten as a twelve year old guitarist in 1978-79. Especially Dreamboat Annie. Howard Leese, criminally underrated musician. 👍

Longggg time ago David Spade did a bit where he talked about going to concerts and when the band says, “now we’re gonna play one off our new album” they may as well be saying,”ok everybody can go to the bathroom and get a beer now.” Lol! Love Ann ❤
The problem is most new albums from old bands aren't that great. There are some albums or moments where they can bring the magic back but usually it just seems like they aren't trying or don't care.
I had a couple songs on local radio in the late 80's and I got to be good friends
with Howard Leese and thru him I got to know the rest of the band. Ann and
Nancy are so cool! I must have seen them 10 times in the 80's. Those were
amazing shows!

Ann did a covers album and tour a while back. She was killer at the show I saw.
I saw Heart (with Cheap Trick and Joan Jett & the BHs) in August 2016, and I thought they were phenomenal! All three bands were great that night. But, let me tell ya... when Heart busted out some Led Zeppelin songs for their encore... I won't lie, I got teary eyed! Lol. It was great... awesome show!!!
If ya think in terms of how Ann actually made her way into the band waaay back in the day by being able to sing Led Zep better than Robert could (his own words if you were to hunt them down)..
It's pretty sad that "Heart" or Ann and Nancy as well, aren't easily recognized as the once in a lifetime gifts to music that they truly are..
I refuse to acknowledge their genders because it seems to downplay their phenomenal talents and influences on others and they deserve every ounce of credit and credibility as they've more than earned it.. 🎶🕊

First time visitor to your channel and a long time Heart fan, I enjoyed hearing your review and seeing your "fan-boy" memorabilia collection (Nancy's shoe and a guitar, now that's pretty cool! )
Growing up in the Vancouver B.C Canada area and being so close to Seattle in the 1970s and 80s, I was lucky to see them play live many times. Had "front row eye contact" with both sisters and Roger Fisher a time or two and those are some of my favorite memories from the Dreamboat Annie, Magazine, Little Queen ,Dog and Butterfly days (my favorite Heart era). One song that I wished I could have seen Heart perform live; was Led Zeppelin's 'Battle of Evermore'. They used to play "Rock and Roll" at every show in the earlier days. At least I was lucky enough to see Zep in Seattle in 1977. I often listen to Battle of Evermore in my car and remember the good old days when Heart came to town at least once a year and concert tickets were under 10 bucks! 🎵☮
Interesting that you mentioned being struck that this is the person, in the flesh, who was in all all those fantastic 70’s and 80’s videos. I just saw Nancy Wilson in concert last month, first time ever, and I was also having flashbacks to all those classic performances. I was awestruck!! Nancy and her band were terrific even though she was performing with three broken toes on one foot. No leg kick, but it didn’t matter. But as you said, as great as they each are, they are best when together. Hopefully that happens next year.

Saw Ann in Toronto on July 7, which was the 2nd show of this tour. The band were excellent and Ann’s voice was in good form. You can tell she cuts some notes short but overall she was great. It was a great show.

Heart's 1985 album with Never. That Heart album was a big hit in our household. I never really knew Crazy on you and Barrcuda for a pretty long time. I certainly don't think around 1985. But, I remember this Mtv collage. When they'd go on a commercial break, or come from a commercial break, they'd run this collage of scenes from various videos and concert footage. And, at the end was Ann Wilson doing this scream from high to low. I was like "what's that?"
I never found out will like maybe 2000s, or sometime after 2010. Somewhere in there, I finally did a full best of discography, and I found it - Mistral Wind!

Happen to mention your review to my wife. Low and behold she finds Ann Wilson playing in Nashville last night about 5 blocks from our house. We had a blast. She sounded great and the band was killer. She told the crowd they were filming a TV special as there were cameras everywhere. She did a great version of Bowie's "Let's Dance" in the 2nd set. I for sure would have liked a longer version of Alone to get to the "note" that we all wonder if she can still hit....but regardless, what a show. You are right, that guy looked just like Nuno. Do you think the guitars were all direct? If so, they sounded awesome. Thanks for your video. Made it to the show because of it.

Mike is such a chill dude that it's hard to imagine him getting pissed, but some of those venue security people are totally hopped up on the power trip. So in that sense, it doesn't surprise me. But all in all it sounds like a great time. Thanks for the excellent review!

HaHa I know about "Security Guards At Concerts" .I Back in1990 I saw the Bee Gees outdoors at Riverfest on Harriet Island in the Mississippi river ,St. Paul, Mn.. I and my wife stood right at the side right corner of the stage at a fence corner and 4 feet from the stage edge. I had my film camera and 300mm lens to get images from my area. During most of the concert I laid my heavy camera and lens down on the outside of the fence on the grass where only the security would be walking. It was out of the way along the fence bottom grass. Then this local security guy ( hired locally by Riverfest) comes to me and says ,"Is that your camera ?" I told him, Yes. He said ," Pick it up and if you put it there again ,I will take it." The prick had to see me put it down there and decided to hassle me (since camera's were allowed and the concert was free..) Then a few minutes later the Bee Gees own security guard came up to me and asked me what the local security said. I told him I had to hold my camera or he was going to confisgate it for himself. The BGs security guard said, "No he won't because I am going to tell him so right now". He told me to go ahead and put it there again where it will be safe. I never had any problem after that and enjoyed taking pics and rocking with the BGs. There are asshole guards and decent guards. I enjoyed this review too. I am 74, Peace. Enjoy life and music because both go by very quickly kids.
I was at a ZZ Top show a few years back, before the show I walked up to get a picture of just Billy's and Dusty's mic stands , you know the chrome smoke stacks,, same thing happened to me a younger security kid, was yelling get back! I wasn't even on the stage. But , love the review,, keep it going 👍
I gotta say Mike, that was awesome. I only subscribe to 3 YT guitar channels and yours is one of them. Your lessons are always tremendous, but your dedication to the history of this amazing instrument and the purveyors of the music that turned me into a rock head from the day in 1972 when I took my Partridge Family record off my shitty little record player and put on Black Sabbath Vol4.. It's very cool to know there are people as young as you so steeped in this world and actually capable of articulating in a way that shows you've done your homework. The review was really well done. Good addition. Enjoyed every minute of it.
I saw Heart in 1990. To this day it's still one of the best concert I've ever seen.
Side note I have an autographed pic with Phil from Pantera (also saw in the 90's). They also give a great concert.
Her cover of Trower’s Bridge of Sighs is one of the best. James Dewar would be proud.
Saw Ann and the boys in Toronto a couple weeks ago. I had a front seat. Loved it. YES to Nuno... I thought the same thing...lol. Great guitarist. "Dreadlocks" is amazing too and also can get his voice up high for background vocals. Their bass player is awesome and I filmed him right in front of me busting loose on a wild bass solo during Straight On as it went into Bowie's Let's Dance (he shared it on his Insta account). Love Ann's new songs from her upcoming album... some really great stuff. I've seen Ann a few times solo now and I've learned to separate her shows from seeing Heart. It's an Ann solo thing and I used to "miss Nancy" (have seen her solo too and also great), but now I appreciate them solo. Ann still has that powerhouse voice and her band is mighty! 🎸🎹🎼🎶🎙🤘🤩
Sounds like a blast - minus the drama with the security guy. Rock and roll man, Heart was definitely an awesome band and it's awesome to see that the Wilson sisters can still rock today!
That 30 minute break in the middle is how she and Nancy ran their LoveMongers tour as well.
I wholeheartedly sympathize with your security guard anecdote. I understand they're just doing their jobs, but there are legit some of these guys who take themselves too seriously and let it go to their heads. I have a similar story of my own: way back in the 2000s, my friends and I went to a video game convention in Philadelphia, where my particular close friend cosplayed as a zombie Santa Claus. Shortly after we entered and began wandering around, a random employee stopped us and told my friend that his zombie makeup is too scary and that he had to remove it or else the sponsors would complain. My friend tried to ignore it, but an angry security guard forced him to remove the makeup or else we'd all be kicked out.
The security guy awkwardly escorted my friend to the restroom and made him clean it all off, and then when my friend walked out of the men's room with only part of his makeup removed, the guy yelled at him and made him remove it all. Then he inspected my friend's face and made sure the zombie makeup was all gone before we could re-enter the convention area.
Throughout the rest of the event, the security douche followed us around and kept staring at us - randomly creeping up behind us, giving us dirty looks. I guess he wanted to make sure my friend didn't run back in the car and re-apply his makeup. This lasted throughout the remainder of the whole afternoon: we'd randomly go to a booth, and this guy would be standing there with his arms folded - giving us the evil eye like we were two criminals.
The knockout punch? A couple of cosplayers were dressed as Silent Hill and Resident Evil characters with bloody zombie makeup, and no one batted an eye. It happened almost 20 years ago but it still irritates me today to think about.

I saw Ann Wilson on concert yesterday. 08/01/23. A free outdoor concert in a public park setting in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. She sounded awesome and her new backup band rocks. She did a couple covers :Zeppelin, Bowie, John Lennon, and then most of Heart's early hits. Also a few "new songs" I could have done without. She avoided the 80's Heart ballads which was great. They didn't play very long but I'm glad I went. Magic Man and Crazy On You were note-perfect. Her version of Immigrant Song was unexpected and amazing.

Bad Animals is good…. I am as much of a metal head as anyone but Ann’s voice was in top form. Listen to “Wait for an Answer” and “Bad Animals”
The Set List thing made me laugh so much! I was almost that guy 2 days ago at Dreamsonic. Some picks didn't make it to the crowd so the security picks up a couple and walks over to me and my kids, hands one to my older son and then puts the other like 6 inches from me, and I'm like "I'm a guitar player!" and he just fn ignores me and hands it to my other kid HAHAHAHHA I totally felt like an idiot!

I can only say that some 45 years after I was introduced to heartsongs I'm glad you got to experience Ann because she truly is OOAK to this day!!!

Great concert review! I saw Heart in concert in 2019 (first and only time so far) and it blew me away! I've listed to some of Ann's solo stuff and it's good, but same as what you were saying, just feels like Nancy is missing.

I know I'm way late with this but the guitarist with the dreads is named Paul Moak and is a huge Metallica fan. He used to be a regular guest on Metal Up Your Podcast which is a great podcast for all metal and Metallica fans.
Killer story/review. I saw Roadcase Royale quite a few years back. It was very cool seeing Nancy in a small venue, but I did miss Ann. I haven't seen Ann solo...yet. Nancy's shoe is pretty darn cool!

I totally freaked out a bit in 97 when saw a duo promoting their new album :Walking into Clarkstown. -----Plant and Page. Plant came out and said ok, by contract we have to do 3 songs from the new album....let's get them out of the way. After 15 minutes of their new stuff, they then proceeded to do 2 and a half more hours of just Zeppelin stuff. I can only imagine this but I would have to see Nancy. She was my favorite in the group.
Very interesting review, although I don't know a thing about "Heart" or the Wilson sisters - except what I've seen in your previous videos, such as the songs performed by your Heart tribute band, of course.
Also, thanks for not leaving anything out in the end, that was also quite interesting.

Just saw Ann in Indio a few weeks back, she killed it!! Still has her pipes! Her band is top notch….. ( expectedly so) Tight and on point. I share your admiration and respect for Ann…. She’s a Legend! Also there a vid out there of her and Tripsitter doing cover of won’t get fooled again , which is mind blowing.

I knew some security guys and they believe that you never provoke or insult guests because it makes the matter worse. I don't know if this guy learned security from a tv show but he did not have to insult you nor was that a very good security technique. The last thing a performer wants is one of the audience members intimidated by the security team. The audience is paying the freight here. You want an audience member leaving the show as if they spent a few hours with a friend. Frankly, the fact you had to go on TH-cam and recount this story is a sad commentary on the failings of Ann Wilson's security. Respect should be the bottom line on all interactions with audience members..

Thanks for preparing me. I’m going to see Ann in Tulsa tomorrow night. Honestly I would love if she played every song on Dreamboat Annie…oh well. My biggest disappointment was taking my nephew to see Page and Plant for his High School graduation. They freaking didn’t play Stairway! I mean I was still stoked to just be in the same building with them, but c’mon! I wonder if that’s why in Wayne’s World he says Stairway Denied!!??They played lots of their old stuff but not Stairway! That’s just not right! I don’t care what hang ups Robert Plant had about his lyrics! Now this was before Heart’s Kennedy CTR Honors tribute that made Robert cry. Ann said that the reason she and Nancy aren’t playing anymore is because Nancy wants to do the old stuff. And they haven’t been able to compromise. I wish they could.
I saw Heart at Barnhill arena in Fayetteville, AR in either 1978 or 79. Robert palmer opened up . Amazing .
Ann's band is the Amazing Dawgs without Tom Bukovac.
They're still great, but come on, you have to substitute but you can't really replace Uncle Larry.
Paul Moak is an amazing musician (as are Tony Lucido and Sean Lane, but don't know the new guy).
Fierce Bliss is a pretty good album and Ann Wilson is a legend.
Heart is Legendary.
