This old Sanford and Son truck was parked at a gas station for years on Russel Road and Mountain Vista Road in Las Vegas just four doors down from Red Foxx's home. How it ended up there is probably a good story.
After Mr. Foxx passed away the truck disappeared. Looks like the white painted lettering on the doors were redone as the original paint was faded. Great find for you. T.V. history!

I grew up in *BRUNSWICK,* which is the town on the south side of Strongsville, and I still live about 20 minutes from Strongsville. I had no idea this famous truck was right in my backyard!! I have to touch it once. ALWAYS loved the show, and still do. So many famous lines and scenes.

A little info on the truck.
It is a 1951 Ford F-1 pickup painted in Vermilion Red. It either had a 226c.i. I-6 rated at 95hp(most likely)or the optional 239c.i. V-8 rated at 100hp. It also most likely had the light-duty 3-speed manual transmission on the tree, but could've had a 3-speed HD or a 4-speed. No automatic trans offered.
This is the first generation of the Ford F-series(1948-1952)truck line we know so well today

My uncle Carl had a truck like this in the 1960s. As I recall, it was green and funny it wasn't any better condition. I have very fond memories riding in it from Chicago, Illinois, to Milwaukee Wisconsin. And watching Sandford and Son was a great show. And always reminded me of the memories with my uncle.

A show that always brings me laughs even though I saw all the episodes 100 times over. A legendary TV show made in a time when we were okay to laugh at ourselves. If you look closely at photo's during and after Sanford and Son, this truck went through more mild restorations than it appears. Keeping a patina on it makes it appear that not much has been done to it.

    • @adrianmonk4440
      @adrianmonk4440 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nailed it, when it was okay to laugh at ourselves !!!. Every, Every, Every family tree regardless of flava HAS SAP. When we became brittle & spend most of the time finding fault in others in a CAUSTIC WAY, we lost comedy, and we became polarized. We didn't change the world for the better, We made it more reactive. I AM NOT SAYING BLACKS HAVE TO BE THE BUTT OF JOKES, I AM SAYING WE ALL NATURALLY ARE.

A huge fan of the show here in the state of Maine. This is the one- and to see the one and only... I never knew the history of Redd fighting with Rich Producers over pay... Sit-coms started with Sanford and Son. Fred had the humor that made the era. It couldn't have been a high budget to run for the studio. I wish it could have lasted. The humor was genuine! I really enjoyed this piece! Tom Kipfer

The BBC Series was called Steptoe and Son, they used a horse and cart not a truck, it was about the son (Harold) and the father's (Albert) love/hate relationship, sadly the actors did not like each other in real life. Great Vlog loved hearing about the US version .

    • @Statimtek

Albert was played by Wilfrid Brambell who was Paul Mc Cartney's grandfather in the Beatles "A Hard Days Night" movie. The running gag about the grandfather was "he's very clean" Which is the complete opposite of Albert who in one episode picked up their horse's manure and put it in a bucket with his bare hands then proceeded to eat his sandwich. : P

I ran across this video today on TH-cam. I can add a little more history to this truck. On Labor Day weekend 1992 this car was auctioned at the Cruse auction in Auburn, Indiana. The car’s title was still in the name of John Sanford. I was one of the last bidders, and went out at about $5500. The winning bidder bought it for around $6500. I’ve thought many times that I wish I had bought the truck. Good video!

Great vlog. I would love to see this truck sometime. Too bad Redd Foxx didn't get to sign it. It's cool that there was only one truck used during the series, making it a one of a kind. Iconic cars like KITT and General Lee have been cloned by the studios since the shows revolved around the car.

The truck had actually been parked in front of Redd's home here in Las Vegas for quite some time. I used to drive past his house on Eastern Ave almost every day, and there it was, right out near the road. It was not enclosed in a fenced area, or otherwise protected from the public. Anyone could just come right up to it and check it out. No one ever vandalized it, and no one ever stole it, which just amazed me. I was certain that I'd pick up the newspaper someday to learn that the Sanford & Son Truck had been stolen, or that it had been covered in graffiti, but it never happened. I always felt that it should've been in a museum instead of out in the desert sun along a busy road in Las Vegas. Then one day it was gone. I always wondered what happened to it. Now I know. Thanks, Jordan.

Redd Foxx Got Really Pissed off when he Found out that Carroll O'Connor form " All in the Family " near the end of its run, he was getting $500,000 an episode, Redd said he wanted Norman Lear & Bud yorken to Match it . This is what was talked about in the late 70s

Thanks for bringing us here today. Can't wait to see where you take us tomorrow. Hope you have some good time with your family while you're there. Take Care.

I used to go to see George Barris and the Batmobiles but I never got to see the Sanford and son truck. This is another of my all time faves. I would so love to have a truck like that! Howard Platt aka "Hoppy" used to come to our Chicago hot dog parties. Thanks for sharing this and some of the info about the show.

Just like Archie Bunker there is much humor in a cranky, non-politically correct , and stereotypical character. Types of humor most likely not allowed today on mainstream television.
You touched on it well in your blog here where it was not looked at as hateful but humor.

In the 1980's the truck sat for awhile at a car dealership in Elkhart, IN. The windshield was missing. The windshield was removed to eliminate the windshield glare. when filming actors in the cab.

In 1972, my dad bought me a 1952 ford f1 just like that. I was 14. Same three speed on the column. Mine had the original 6 cylinder. Loved that truck. Until I was hit on the front wheel. It broke the engine away from the transmission, breaking the frame, put my head through the rear window cutting my head from ear to ear. Sad day. I was 16.
