    One of the best ways to improve overall performance that doesn't cost anything is to make sure the bicycle is assembled correctly. That means greasing and adjusting all the bearings, truing the wheels, making sure the wheels are in alignment. Then set up the motor with the same amount of care to ensure the drive sprockets are aligned correctly, and the electrical connections are clean and tight. Torque ALL the bolts on the engine, etc.
    You will be surprized at how much better the total bike performs just by doing a careful set-up. Takes nothing but time.

    I'm a R/C Model Airplane nut. I think it was when I was about 8, 1959, I got my first plane. Been flying ever since.
    Your Thoughts on these little bike engines are spot on.
    This is all the stuff I would normally do to "Hot Up" any engine. Rule of thumb, the better the engine can breath, the better it will run.
    Yup, I'm a Hot Rodder at heart,can't leave nothing stock.
    The Beach Cruiser I built and ride has a few little things added.....
    High Compression Head, Hotter Ignition, NGK #5 plug, reed valve, 4" extension on the intake. Finally, of course, A Tuned Exhaust Pipe. The engine might be putting out 1.5 more horsepower, big increase in bottom end. 32mph on the flat. This should improve with and bit more run time.
    We humans put out about 1/5th of a Horsepower and bikes are designed around this. When we start putting engines on these frames things like bearings, add High Temp High Pressure Wheel Bearing Grease, Up grade the break pads with fresh new ones regularly, then just make sure all your nuts and bolts are tight, are things besides the engine that we have to watch.
    We are riding," UltraLight Motorcycles" that handle like a bicycle. Diving into corners, at speed, is just fun.
    Finally, Tuning and Maintenance are just the two main things that these Motorized Bikes bring to us Hot Rodders.
    Now get out there, have fun and be safe.

    Cheech? Man I can’t get my crank arms to clear..😞 I want to cut off the entire baffle and leave the pipe..would I still have back pressure with just the pipe?

    • @Brian136
      @Brian136  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a 2stroke it's the scavenging effect of the expansion of the exhaust gases in the big part of the pipe.
      Sure u can cut it off and it will sound nasty run like a 750 kawasaki twin with the pipes cut off. All noise no power because the little piston is having to push the exhaust out by itself. Taking away the bottom end of the tourque curve.
      U want pedal cranks to clear? Two ways --
      1. Install the expansion chamber pipe from ebay
      2. Heat the pipe about halfway between the port and the muffler - use your vicegrips grab the end of muffler and push in about 1" or so. Spin the crank - repeat if you need more clearence")

      Not true. If that was the case they wouldn’t make different temp, length, materials, electrodes, tips on spark plugs. I made a small gain from swapping from a standard to an iridium spark plug in my car. If you dump more fuel in, you need to be able to ignite it all, otherwise it’s a waste. More fuel needs more/better/hotter spark.

    I love how you break it all down, my favorite part was when you said wait till it breaks then start modifying it, until then let it be what it is. I'll be keeping my eye out for some emery cloth and a nice flat surface too close that compression gap like you said. longer intake, hotter plug and wider output is like putting a quarter in the gumball machine and watching the result. Hi Brian... thanks for the videos!! I have a question for ya that is driving me bonkers. So I did some minor porting the other day. All I did was take out some manufacturing imperfections to the transfer ports and roughened up the intake port just a tiny bit. I also took some off the raised ring on the head for higher compression. Oh I also put the piston at top dead center and trimmed the skirt so the intake port has clear flow. The problem now is that the motor dies as soon as I get off the gas. It runs like a bat out of hell once I'm scooting but just quits as soon as I get off the gas. If I pull the clutch and give it gas it will stay on. Do I need to jet up now??? Or maybe cheesed the porting?? Thanks man

    • @Brian136
      @Brian136  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes sir jets is the answer") try this first on the main jet that is at the end of the throttle cale has four grooves at the top of the jet it should be at the second one down (stock) this is middle lean try moving the jet down on and see if that works first. it you still have the same results then you need to get the next bigger jets all of them because all of them need to be changed. should be 2 of them for most standard carbs that come with these engine kits. I have the NT SPEED carb and it worked really good out of the box so i just experimented with the setting on the main until i got it right and left it there. watch this video and you get the drift") th-cam.com/video/0F-Vyv5WmO8/w-d-xo.html thanks for watching you got more questions i got more answers my friend")

      Probably but then all the motorheads will be jealous and start hating first me then you once they figure out you gave me the idea unless you want to pay for it in that case it's $1000 up front for parts and labor -- $350 for aggervation and idiocy issues -- $250 for incendental expenses for beer and tacos from del taco -- $50 per call for support and troubleshooting the electrical system -- $500 for speciality tools and diagrams of the prototype engine -- $70 for new work boots -- and you cover the paint / powder coating up to $175.
      After all that is paid I draw up the plans and start building the whatchamacallit for the altanator and I send you couple pictures next week of the progress on the 24pak of Miller's

  • @arthurclark563
    @arthurclark563 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah what your say'n is this.First you take that little 48 cc off the frame take it apart get your rat tale file widen the intake port and exhaust port just shy of the edge of the casting on the chrome side leave the cheese behide that unless your attaching a reed valve if so check it for clearance.With that done continue on to the transfers trim the to a near sharp edge work that angle an inch or two toward the windows and then bevel or radius the windows all way round that's it. Reassemble it and now you have it ported correctly, perfectly wonderfully magnificent now let it sit there and wonder why did I do that to my nice little 48 cc engine ?

    • @Brian136
      @Brian136  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would use a dremel with a metal cutting bit myself but I didn't port this engine the ports were pretty clean when I got it so all I did was use some emery paper on them and polished the surfaces for better flow") so why did you do all that stuff anyway arthur?

    • @arthurclark563
      @arthurclark563 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      These engines are all about the same you need a reed valve and the intake and exhaust ports have got to go wider than factory I didn't touch the height on them but and I've got a GT 5 cylinder head as well much larger combustion chamber running strong in dry weather when it's rainy not as powerful but compared to factory 3x the torque 2x the RPM range..

  • @mr.gutterwater4479
    @mr.gutterwater4479 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn't go with a longer intake because the engine has to work harder to get the air through that so if you have that like 3 inch intake right there and you were to blow through that and then you go to a 6 inch air intake and blow through that the 6 inch air intake you will have more resistance and if you want performance you want that fuel mixture to get into the motor as quick and fast as possible for the high revs

    • @Brian136
      @Brian136  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      theory here is to get a bigger charge of air/fuel mix and by increasing the intake runner it does this just by having that extra 10% in the tube all the time. if you go to long like you have said then you are running into a different set of problems that include flooding and excessive oil in the cylinder because you have to much air/fuel mix in the intake all the time this is why I recommend in the video to try to stay inside of the 3 inch length that I have on my engine. this allows the air/fuel mix to stay constant and it doesn't make the little piston work so hard sucking in the air/fuel mix. Plus if you add the expansion chamber and skirt the piston to increase the flow from the interior ports then the whole thing works together to increase the power of the little engine. I only eluded to 6 inches if you were to do all the extras like porting and adding the cylinder head and that stuff. thanks for your comments that put some more light on this subject and just might help someone out that needs a wider explanation") thanks for watching
