  • Noah snowshoes into an old ranger cabin for the weekend. The route takes much longer than anticipated as the seasons change making lake crossings difficult.

    My buddies and I passed this place on a big canoe trip a few years ago. We borrowed the radio to listen to the final tragically hip concert at our final camp site. Still the most Canadian moment I’ve ever experienced.

    Sound of silence, smell of fire and pizza baking, breathing cool, clean air, and watching the dancing lights of the forest spirits after a fulfilling hard day...thanks for sharing the experience! My weekend is complete. Priceless!

    Cool that local saved you some time! I love how most rural Canadians help/look out for each other. Wish there was more of that down here in the states.

    Thanks for the video. I live in the States and own a place on the South Shore. Nova Scotia is a gem and the residents are second to none. Not surprised that the cabin was taken care of so well. Can't wait to return.

    I watch your channel offerings from my home at the and of a dirt road in rural Thailand. I enjoy the feelings of nostalgia I have from my youth in NB and NS. You're sweet guys and I love the connections you encourage to the outdoors. I hope more Canadians will want to put down their mobile phones and get out into this lovely wilderness. Thanks!!

    Dead is the operative word for firewood, never cut down live trees for firewood. Dead means once cut its ready to burn.dead trees are all over the forest, some standing others that have already fallen.
    Love your sense of adventure and respect for those who were there before you.
    Cheers!

    The best part of camping in March in the North country? No mosquitoes! lol I met a man from Nova Scotia years ago. He lived near the coast when he was growing up. He told me the wealthy kids from the farms took meat sandwiches in their lunch pails to school. The poor kids had lobster sandwiches. Beautiful country there. Thanks, Northern Scavenger. Subbed.

      Jack pine Savage my father-in-law would go out after dark to bury the lobster shells, so people would not find out they were so poor that they ate lobster.

    Great video, really well put together. I have stayed in that cabin several times, arrived in spring and summer and fall by canoe, never walked in. It is so cool that it is looked after by volunteers and kept so clean and tidy. You should try Cofan cabin on the Shelburne river in the Tobeatic wilderness area. Also an open cabin. cheers from Lunenburg County NS

    My family owns a cabin on silver river on the old new france settlement in sou’west nova scotia. About an hour and a half by buggy, couple days by foot. My father would always bring me there as a youngster and i grew up having a fascination and an appreciation for old hunting camps and the history that comes with them. Awesome to see someone who comes from the same ilk. Loved the video, would love to see more videos about the old cabins of Nova Scotia. Cheers!

    • @earlwoodworth5238
      @earlwoodworth5238 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dwc4303, if you can dig up a copy of 'Backwoods Cabins of Nova Scotia' by Bud Inglis you will find a description and grid reference for the cabin. It is on Rocky Lake to the North and West of Keji. Put in off Route 8. I believe we used Pine Rd. to access the lakes but it is gated. You could put in at the Milford House and paddle down.

    Ice prods and a pole are essential to have out on the ice. Especially when you aren't sure of conditions. If you go through the ice alone, you won't get out without some tools.
