@dalecharmantravels8057 did you get a seat? The only time I ever upgraded to first class from KGX to NCL with my wife last year, all the trains were to pot & we were full & standing until York. No sign of any staff though I think they'd have struggled to get through the train. It was a shame but we did get a full refund eventually.
I was on the Sleeper in May and I didn't get much sleep but enjoyed the Club room and had the breakfast in the Club car which I enjoyed, I think I would do it again as it's so convenient
Thanks again for a video which is different to the many others reporting on Cal Sleeper. The product is expensive and now aimed at wealthy travellers and especially overseas visitors. The latter save a fortune on accommodation in either London or Edinburgh. Personally I can't sleep on overnight trains so would prefer a daytime train.
I've done it a few times but chose a seat instead of a bed and you won't get the best of sleeps in a seat, great video and thank you for taking us along on the sleeper

@@1trebor2024 it does what you need to though. Just catch a train and get out of there. Although the outside is a nice place to spend some time in a nice day

I could do that and enjoy it - but there again I can sleep anywhere that's moving, but would probably too busy looking out if the window, even at night😂😂 Another great video Dale👍
Awesome ...! Dale I really need to come visit the UK. I got to see these kind of trains and ride them. They look expensive though. What a cool private room to stay in.
Nice one Dale. Last time I did the Sleeper, it left over 2 hrs late & couldn't access 1st Class lounge, as closed! Like you, I'm a bad sleeper and those cabins are warm! Did well trying out the top bunk and shower! When lived in Glasgow, I used to travel by sleeper, so I'd have the full day to enjoy London. Now live near Alnmouth, so be good to hear about your Edinburgh to London journey! Your face(I'd be the same) when you didn't get your bacon and egg roll! Yes, I'd probably do the Sleeper again in the future, but now tend to travel during the day. Looking fine, all the best, thanks for sharing! 😊 👍
Thank you for another very informative video, Dale. I had wondered about taking the sleeper at some point - just for the experience, really - but I thought that I mightn't like it and may struggle to sleep. Your experience has helped make up my mind against that idea, mainly because the older I get, the more I like to be quiet and comfortable. I hope you have a better experience when you get to try the double room!
Out of all the video reviews of this train, yours is simply the best. Why? Because it consists solely of raw footage where you directly talk to the camera, with no text, voiceovers or annoying background music that are present in so many other videos. Above that, I like how open & honest you are about your experience onboard. Sorry to hear about your lack of sleep, hope it goes better next time. Thanks for producing awesome content dale, looking forward to seeing your future travel videos. Cheers.
Thank you that’s very nice of you to say. Some of my plane videos will have voice overs as I try to limit talking so I am not disturbing other passengers. Still I hope you enjoy them when they come out
I love the honesty, from a real person, warts and all. Love Edinburgh but thankfully live closer so sleepers ( with 3 kids) are probably unnecessary. Do like the idea of a private shower and toilet though. 😜
Lovely video again Dale. I'm sure a few who comment here are green with envy with your lifestyle, I mean the freedom to go there and back to Scotland on a luxury train and then to hop on a plane to Hong Kong! Plus all those other trips you go on PLUS you drive a tube train! I'd love to do all that but things such as a boring 9-5 job, a loving wife, parents at my beck and call + having to see the in-laws and all the stuff that goes with it means it can't possibly do what you do. What is it they say? 'Living My Best Life?' Well you've cornered the market Dale and all the best to you!
I do give up a lot for my travel. No children no girlfriend. I don’t do any thing other than work or travel. I can’t complain too much I do enjoy it. Most of the time 🤣🤣
If you're enjoying what you do then that's the main thing. And who knows what can happen in the future. Keep those videos coming please as they always entertain and I think I speak for a lot of us when I say we love it when you're waffling on when you're in the cab.
I haven't tried the Caledonian sleeper before but it might be a good experience to try it for the first time. Might be a hard time for me to sleep though as I usually wake up when I feel movements
Another great video Dale. I've never been able to sleep on trains or planes unfortunately. Have you ever thought about doing ferry videos ? Cross channel and such ?
Loved this video Dale! I'm fascinated by the sleeper trains. Nearest I get to it though is when I see the southbound sleeper running very late at Crewe. It looks quite luxurious, compact and well designed use of the space. I had a feeling noise would be a problem when trying to sleep though. Cost isn't exactly cheap but it's a premium way of traveling a long distance.
Hello Dale. I have never been on a sleeping train, so now I am. Here in Holland when have a train the Night Jet. So later on maybe I'm going also with the night train. Nice video and see you on the next one
The last time I watched a video of the Caledonia sleeper out was with the old cars. The dinner they turned out on their China was lamb, it looked awesome. Your breakfast was truly lacking, a coffee tea bag? If you do this again could you show the whole train? Missed that, but all in all it was as usual, great riding with you Dale and thanks.
Hi. Dale. I hope you have or had a fun trip to Hong Kong. When my sisters and I came over to the Uk years ago we drove from London to Edinburgh. It took us ten hours but we stopped on the way to see touristy stuff. We came up there to see the Edinburgh Festival. We rented an appartment. We had fun. SORRY you got tossed around in the night. Gee I remember thats how it was on the underground trains sometimes. I take it you would rather be a Tube driver than a National Rail Train Driver. Thanks for answering my other questions.
I did enjoy my trip to Hong Kong thank you. Be it a very brief trip. I did apply many years ago to national rail ( I worked for thameslink) but sadly I failed the interview. Now I don’t want to learn any thing new
Dale HI. have you thought about taking the Euro Train. My family and I took a bus trip to Belgum when we visited our UK relatives. . We just stayed on the bus on the train. I would recommend ibringing hard candy or gum for ear irritation. I was not ill but it made my stomach feel funny.
I take it you would not like the job of driving the Euro Train. I would not like to either. I would be scared of being underneath all of that water all the time. I rather be on land and over ground or a dark tunnel than water.
It’s kind of amusing you’re wearing a polo shirt in the exact same shade of blue as the one in your work uniform on your spare time. But it is a nice shade!
Last time I used Euston was 2003 and randomly seen Angus deaton getting off a train I was starstruck at 18 😂 Looks like the underground delivery part of Birmingham bullring
You should try and get one of the double bed rooms, my preferred choice but so often booked up long in advance. Don't know why they don't have more of them. put some chapters in. e.g. cost is revealed around 28:15 £300 for solo occupancy.
There was a double room available when I booked but went for the cheaper option. I will do the double room some time. But maybe on a longer trip say to Inverness
Abrassively pleasant and funny videography there ; Dale! Id really appreciate if train maintainers could give the actual costs of this because am pretty sure; 300+gbp is way overpriced honest and accurate summation. To me 50pounds might be okay for all that. Editor tip: if you use the x264 codec make sure it is set to crf=16 constant rate factor and the resolutions are as big as possible when uploading; you should get lossless seeming videos.
As a tube driver, do you get any concessinns on main line trains? I had worked on the railway for 43 years, and when I used the Glasgow sleeper from Bristol, back in the 1980's, I used our free passes for myself and family, and just paid the supplementary price on top.
"I hope this is the right room, I dont want to end up in Glasgow" lmao! You could end up in worst places to be honest..... but if you were in Glasgow I would've bought you a breakfast pint 😛 lol! The sleeper is expensive, but miles more pleasant than getting the overnight National Express from Glasgow to London. They really should run two buses; one for the loudmouths, and one for those that dont want to share their Jelly Babies with the prat behind lol!
The only reason I didn’t want to end up in Glasgow is my train back was leaving from Edinburgh. 🤣🤣🤣. I pint and a good breakfast would have gone down a treat 🤣. I know what you mean about the bus. I wonder if we will ever see a sleeper bus service in the uk like they have in some other countries
Was that 305 one way or round trip? The food would not hack it for me. .Does it have a dining car or just "room service"? The space next to your room look like the "kitchen" Would imagine that would get noisy in the morning.
The price was one way. There is a dining car but breakfast is served in the room. That little room next to mine was just used for storage rather than cooking. I believe the food is made in the dining car then brought to the room rather than that little space
Very watchable, amusing that a train driver jumps on a train for his holiday xD Would love to do the Caledonian sleeper one day, it's not cheap but very low-stress way to get to Scotland and back which is appealing for me.
At one time on standard class sleepers, U could share a cabin with a stranger and if unfortunate circumstances crop up, not necessary with the same sex(obviously would be sorted) but has been known to happen. Unfortunately you were in first room in carriage right above the bogie, anyone else going on sleeper should ask to be relocated to a cabin more in centre of the coach.
we been talking about taking the night train from Stockholm to Narvik. it looks very interesting travelling at night. if you have a place to sleep it makes sense, but I would never do it in a seat. you don´t really sleep, and there is no security. in a cabin you can lock your door.
Thanks Dale. It's great to see a less "polished" video and review of the Caledonian Sleeper. Somehow "us lot " being swung around in the go-pro makes it seem more real and less like a commercial. So many other TH-camrs have only good things to say and this (or pretty much any other) service but you highlight some of the problems instead of just saying everything is amazing. The Cornish Riviera sleeper is supposed to be much better in just about every way so I hope to see you try that next (unless you already have - I'll check). For me, I wouldn't pay that much for what you had. In fact, I wouldn't pay half that! A sleeper train where it's almost impossible to sleep (it's not just you) isn't really worth it, is it?
I wonder if it would be a little nicer if they designed the rooms with the bunks turned 90 degrees so that you wouldn't roll as much when the train accelerated or slowed down.
Dale, really enjoyed this video and your other videos. I do like that you used a wireless mic; however, did you use it with the noise cancellation? The audio sounds a bit off (like you're in a tunnel or something). Either way, keep them coming! Also, not sure I would do this journey myself. I think you said it was ~£300 for you, would it be double that for 2 people? If so, that might be worth it if I was traveling that way, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to do this train. Thanks!
@@MarkRowsey it was around £55 more for the extra person. You pay more to have solo occupancy. I have since bought some profesional wireless mics so hopefully my next trip will have better sound quality
@dalecharmantravels8057 Oh, I forgot to mention I recommend staying at the corrour signal box at the station house when you get a chance. The beds are comfy, and they do a good breakfast
For £305, the breakfast, was shambolic, I would've refused to eat that, and went back to the host and told them I didn't order and create a fuss! I expected better quality fresh food than that!
Have to agree, maybe I've got unrealistic expectations, but when dale said he'd do it again, I'm sitting there going why? So it was uncomfortable, noisy and your food was wrong... and I don't think I'm a snob, if anything I'm the opposite, I'd feel cheated out if my money. If I spend money I want value from it.
For some people they will fly or take a day train. For others it’s about the adventure of it all. I can’t say I would use the service if it wasn’t for this channel. However it is good to have options for every one
Well Dale first time we have slept and showers together but the experience was all together favourable now as for Caledonian sleeper I must agree with all that you said, did you ever travel on the old mk3 sleeper coaches because i found they were much more comfortable compared to the new ones, but as I find none of the new age rolling stock can compare to the mk3 design, anyway great video and nice legs sexy ha ha thanks mate happy travels I'll be watching you, mark d
How refreshing Dale, a TH-camr who is honest about his height. Every other Tom Dick and Harry almost like boasting "I'm 7 foot 15" yeah right, who gives a monkeys if you're over 6 foot, us short arses need to stick together 😂
For that price, I would have taken a plane. Much quicker, and if you find a cheap ticket, save that for a nice hotel if you need that, instead of spending so much on the train. I mean if it were one the long haul trains like what you find in the US, or other places, paying the price is usually worth it, unless offcourse you take the Orient Express, but the price there is a bit different to say the least.
Wow my mind is blowing away by these beautiful Caledonian sleeper train it's a 5 star in my country south Africa we don't have anything like these it's only a blue train but it's a 3 star train NICE ONE SIR PLZ AGAIN CONTINUE TO SHOW US MORE TRIPS LIKE THESE WHEN U GET A CHANCE👌💥💥💥👊
Not worth the money dale, unless you get the “romance” of it all, ie a long journey where you have time to sit in the lounge at the start, like Inverness Fort William cause you won’t sleep for five hours, so absolutely pointless. A day trip, same number of hours, a decent sleep in a hotel and a pub breakfast far better.
You understand why I refuse to pay the premium to fly first class to see my sibling in New Zealand. I stop off at Dubai, get a good night's sleep, then have myself ready for the other parts of the journey. At the very least if nothing, I'd buy lounge and shower access.
Great video Dale. Personally, I don't think it's worth the money. Like you, I sleep appallingly when I'm travelling. I think I'd prefer to get an easyJet flight up to Scotland.
Crikey ! 300 quid for THAT ? Glad to have seen it, but now that I have, definitely not for me. Any average height person would be unable to get comfortable in such a short bed, and the whole thing seems oppressive and quite claustrophobic. You're definitely a glutton for punishment, Dale. 😂
Yeah, still, for £300 you could get return flights, have a nite in a hotel with a decent bed, and maybe enough left over for a show or a nice meal. Love that u suffer for your art.😂.😂😂.😂😂😂
Dale, have you tried melatonin for your lack of sleep when travelling? Might be worth a try and unlike sleeping tablets won’t leave you feeling drowsy.
Who else is absolutely hooked on this channel?? Been playing some train sim games, and now I think I am a train driver 🤦😂
Anyways, Great stuff sir!

Wait until you see what I got on LNER first class 🤣🤣

we been talking about taking the night train from Stockholm to Narvik. it looks very interesting travelling at night. if you have a place to sleep it makes sense, but I would never do it in a seat. you don´t really sleep, and there is no security. in a cabin you can lock your door.
It’s good that there are option for every ones budget
Dale what app was on your phone that registered the speed of the train.
It’s just a speedometer app. There are several free ones available depending on your phone and location
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Dale thanks for the info.
Hiya can you do Night Riveria please The one that goes from Paddington to Cornwall someone said that’s better
I did do it a couple of years ago ( it is on my channel). However I will do it again maybe next year
@@dalecharmantravels8057cheers Dale thank you ⚒️👍🏻 shame about Arsenal wanted to win
I have done the Night Riviera before. I would say the advantage to the Caledonian sleeper is the en-suite rooms
When I took the sleeper it was always on the left, the high numbers. Times have changed. Lounges are basic but they can save you on coffee in a cafe
Been there paid that a long time ago 20 plus yrs ago
I wonder if it would be a little nicer if they designed the rooms with the bunks turned 90 degrees so that you wouldn't roll as much when the train accelerated or slowed down.
Amtrak in the USA have them that way. Some thing I hope to take in the next year or so. So will be good to see if it does make a difference or not
Shower scene rivals The Shining
I’m sorry for leaving you with the image of me in the shower
The scouser in me would have removed the top mattress and put it on top of the lower one 😜
Not a bad idea 🤣🤣
Hi Dale, the wireless mic, in my opinion, didn't seem to work as things were low quality, i.e., surroundings and your vouce
I have just upgraded to a proper mic so hopefully the sound will improve once I start to use it
@dalecharmantravels8057 Oh, I forgot to mention I recommend staying at the corrour signal box at the station house when you get a chance. The beds are comfy, and they do a good breakfast
Hi Dale, Do you wish to ride the ICE high-speed trains in Germany?
I do yes. I want to do more train trips in Europe and compare them to what we get in the uk
Hahaha yeah Euston can be a bit of a shite show ..loving the content tho dale, has helped me with my depression as of late.
I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you start to feel better soon.
For £305, the breakfast, was shambolic, I would've refused to eat that, and went back to the host and told them I didn't order and create a fuss! I expected better quality fresh food than that!
I wasn’t expecting much. If you think that’s bad wait until you see what I got on LNER in first class
@@MrJaiimez 100%!
I want to try the room with the double bed in. But I will try and do it in a longer trip like to Inverness
Euston we have a problem
I think you have the makings for a new channel. “Charman Showers”.
Where ever you go you film a segment showering! It’s a rating WIN!
There might be one or two more coming up 🤣🤣🤣
If you can't sleep are you able to walk around the train?
You can have a walk around. I think the bar was open all night ( from memory any way )
@@dalecharmantravels8057 thank you
Good review, but I think this will just convince a lot of people to take a day train or a flight and get a nice hotel room for less money.
Thanks Mark
How refreshing Dale, a TH-camr who is honest about his height. Every other Tom Dick and Harry almost like boasting "I'm 7 foot 15" yeah right, who gives a monkeys if you're over 6 foot, us short arses need to stick together 😂
I’m honest some times too honest. I’m short deal with it is my attitude 🤣🤣🤣
@@dalecharmantravels8057 🤣👍
Euston, don't say anything about the safety or "See it, Say It, Sacked"
Cheers Dale.
That's not for me, I'm sure you could fly for a lot less than you paid for that.
Great video though, keep them coming.
Pyjamas?!! 😂😂😂 Dale .
I don’t think any one would appreciate me sleeping in my birthday suit 🤣🤣
For that price, I would have taken a plane. Much quicker, and if you find a cheap ticket, save that for a nice hotel if you need that, instead of spending so much on the train.
I mean if it were one the long haul trains like what you find in the US, or other places, paying the price is usually worth it, unless offcourse you take the Orient Express, but the price there is a bit different to say the least.
I agree the plane is cheaper and quicker. But where is the fun in that 🤣
Wow my mind is blowing away by these beautiful Caledonian sleeper train it's a 5 star in my country south Africa we don't have anything like these it's only a blue train but it's a 3 star train NICE ONE SIR PLZ AGAIN CONTINUE TO SHOW US MORE TRIPS LIKE THESE WHEN U GET A CHANCE👌💥💥💥👊
I will try to do more videos when I can. Glad you liked it
@@dalecharmantravels8057 thank u sir 👊💥
No! £305 seems way too much. I’d say about £180 would be reasonable value.
It wasn’t cheap and not some thing I would do as a regular thing. Still a nice experience if you like trains
Is that £300 each way?
Yes
It’s better than travelling in a standard seat. At least you have your own space and loo 🤣
Yeah, still, for £300 you could get return flights, have a nite in a hotel with a decent bed, and maybe enough left over for a show or a nice meal. Love that u suffer for your art.😂.😂😂.😂😂😂
Next my friend, the night Riviera?
I have done the night riviera. I might see if I can do it again next year. Although I really want to get on the Amtrak sleeper train
Ummm...I dont think I will Dale thanks. Too cramped for me, and being over 6 feet....Nice one though. All the best.
Uninspired and unsafe, that's Euston indeed!
You pay extra for single occupancy
I think it was only about £55 extra for the second person. So makes more sense with 2 people
Dale, have you tried melatonin for your lack of sleep when travelling? Might be worth a try and unlike sleeping tablets won’t leave you feeling drowsy.
I have not no
GREAT VIDEO DALE WHEN IS THE NEXT PICCADILLY LINE ONE BECAUSE I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS ❤❤❤❤😁😁😁😁
Next Saturday will be a Piccadilly line video as usual
Hey Dale, you are certainly right about Euston, It really is a butt ugly station.
It really is depressing.
