  • Bought on Amazon at goo.gl/0NHMYf for less than $70 with free shipping, this Champion Power Equipment 48036 generator power cord is a good value. I encourage you to read my full review and personal opinions below.
Portable generators, while convenient, often can't be located directly at the source where power is needed. Generator power cords, which are sometimes called extension cords, are available in various lengths and specifications. The Champion 48036 generator power cord is classified as being "heavy duty" because of its composition. Please view the specifications below.
    Manufacturer: Champion Power Equipment
    Model Number: 48036
    UPC Number: 896682480366
    Length: 25'
    Wire: 10 Gauge
Watts: Up to 7,500 Watt Capacity
    Voltage Input: 240V
    Voltage Output: 120V
    Amp Rating: 30 Amps
    Rating: STW (See Below)
S = Flexible Generator Power Cord Designed for General Use
T = Heavy Duty Thermoplastic Cord Jacket
W = Designed for Outdoor Use
Generator Side Connection: NEMA L14-30P Twist Lock Prong
Cord Output Side Receptacles: (4) NEMA 5-20R Receptacles
The main benefit of the Champion Power Equipment 48036 generator power cord is that it splits 240V across two legs that supplies 120V across four standard household receptacles with one cable. Each leg is color coded at the receptacle side with one leg being green and the other red. Because of it's length, I am able to safely operate my generator outside of the garage, with the door almost completely down and the cable run underneath the garage door bottom seal, to provide a power source directly to the inside of my home. At this point I typically use a couple lower rated power cords to supply power to my refrigerator, deep freezer, lights, etc. Outside of a dedicated generator transfer switch, which is hard wired into the main electric panel, this is the best setup to have during a power outage.
The capacity any power cord can handle is extremely important and is often overlooked by homeowners. For example, the Champion Power Equipment 48036 generator power cord can handle up to 7,500 watts. Most of the cheap extension cords that are sold at big box retailers can only handle 1,500-2,000 watts. Attempting to draw too much of a load through a lesser rated power cord can be hazardous. Thankfully most generators have circuit protection built into the unit along with breakers.
If you are buying a power cord for your generator, the Champion Power Equipment 48036 is an ideal choice. It will work fine with any generator that is equipped with a four prong 120/240V L14-30R receptacle. Not only do I believe this generator power cord is built well, but homeowners will be much safer using this cord during a power outage then what many are now using.

Because of your video about this particular item, I was able to purchase it from Amazon as you stated for just under $70.00. Unit comes in a square box now and it is a fantastic buy with free shiping! As you mentioned, the local home improvement store does not have anything close to the quality and specifications of this unit. Very satisfied, and with the peak of hurricane season around the corner, truly feel more at ease knowing that I have a quality item to power my essentials in case of an emergency. Thanks again.

I have a smaller capacity generator, but your video answered my question about running smaller AWG extension cords from the cord type you presented. Many thanks, great video!

Great review. Just picked up a big output generator and was looking for something exactly like this to split the power for each member of my family, at least until we get the transfer switch installed on the breaker. Thank you for your review.

This cable was included with our Champion 9375 Generator. We just needed to understand how to use the power cord and the color coding of the outlets. Very informative for a beginner. Thank you.

Awsome. I just lost power 1/2 hour ago from car crash hitting a pole from what I hear. I'm breaking out my 3500 watt champion because they said it'll be 3 hours before power gets back on. Thanks for review

can this work if you're connecting the generator directly to your house, if both ends are 4 prong ?

One of the warnings on the cord said not to run it through doorways. How else would you get it into your house?

I just bought a 5500 watt champion generator but i want to make sure i get the right extension cord. With this cord can you run a 125v and 240 v appliance at the same time? Thanks.

Since the cord uses 240V to output 120V, you can use the other available/unused 240V outlets on your generator.
