Sorry, i only use gundam markers but I assume paint for warhammer figures should work. Although i would recommend to do some research on the brand of paint since i did hear that certain paint can melt/dissolve plastic
Citadel paint will work very fine with all plastic kit (will not damaging the kit) Since it is acrylic water based paint very friendly to enviroment too.
Cockpit on backpack? Interesting.. I'm getting Aile Strike Vibes.. Guess I'll just slash the backpack when I fight this thing and I'll get a fine Mobile Suit leftover.

How does it size match up with other kits, like HG Gunpla for example?
Its been a while ive touched the kit but if my memory serves correctly, the kit is slightly tallee than 1/144 scale hg kits.
Have you looked into the Alexander from Code Geass Akito? I hear those are pretty neat and newer

Well you can finish the kit without any paint or glue. But if you want more screen accuracy or not use stickers, then other stuff will be required
