The high-end, high-priced designer strawberries were the answer compared to lettuce and other low-unit-cost items. He definitely has hit the nail on the head. I hope he makes it
I think for now, until other sources of energy is discovered, they should dial it back and apply more human intervention techniques. The whole point of the extra tech is to lower cost and boost productivity. If it does 1 and not both, it's not effective enough yet.
Vertical farms are really cool and effective but the only concern I have with it is the produce has less nutrition in them compared to soil farming and nutrition is very important for general well being of people. If they introduce natural(not synthetically produced trace minerals/nutrients) to grow these vertical farms then I highly support and recommend it because its more efficient.
We agree! And because the soil is depleted of trace minerals and nutrients in most agricultural areas, adopting vertical farming that supplements such things could solve another set of issues.
I live in the USA. The grocery store has greenhouse tomatoes from Canada. Most of the light is sunlight, free. They suppliment it with LED lights with hydroelectric power that doesn't use any fossil fuel. The utilities have to charge only enough to cover capital cost and maintenance. But I don't know if they even charge that - the government might be supporting it for the jobs.
It seems the vertical indoor farming is inevitable. Im puzzled as to why more efforts arent being made to find lower cost energy to get companys like this afloat .
Wait. Did I miss it? Video said bee pollinators were a problem that Hiroki Koga recognized and solved, but the solution was not shown. Otherwise, great story!! From an economic development perspective, I've been following Controlled Environment Agriculture for years.
I am the published author of 119 books. I write about the Bosnian Genocide (I am a survivor of it), love, war, bullying, heartbreak, social justice, human rights & mental health. How may I get interviewed by your organization?
I hope you get your ticket to Japan 😁, I normally don’t like watching video just highlight the TH-camr face all the time , but hey your content is very good !
I would be more interested to watch your video. But I watched another video yesterday saying 80% (if I remembered correctly) of the vertical farms went bankrupt.

“Eventually the economics will make sense.” No one can predict the future.
This is how all businesses work though? Either it will or it won’t. Why not try?
🇮🇪 Good video sharing
