So fun fact about Antinous’s plans to dismember Telemachus, in Ancient Greek culture dismembering someone’s corpse was seen as an extremely cruel thing to do. It was believe that you would be tearing the soul apart thus making it hard for you to join the afterlife ON TOP OF THAT, that same belief was held when drowning in the ocean. You would be lost and your soul would never go to the Underworld. Antonius’s plan wasn’t just cruel he was literally planning to make sure Telemachus’s soul would NEVER go to the Underworld so he would never reunite with his family. He was literally giving him a fate worse than death
witch in term makes the animatic sceen at "This will be your fate" where he decapitates a man infront of the crowd show just how much of a monster they are locked inside with
Something that no one talks about: they want to cut Telemachus to tiny pieces and throw him in the ocean to make sure he can't be buried (so that his soul never reaches the underworld, same fate as drowning). Maybe the worst thing you could do in any greek myth.
Just like in the Argonautica. Media cut up her brother so their dad would have so gather all the pieces (she was forced by hera/eros to help Jason escape)
I choose to believe that in 'Odysseus' Ares imbued Ody with bloodlust due to multiple factors: 1. Ares is a protector of women. He would be absolutely disgusted hearing about Antinous's plan. 2. Penelope is a Spartan. Spartans were very proud of their military forces, and some believe that Ares was among the more worshipped gods. Thank you for coming to my TED talk -Orpheus (yes that is my name)
I disagree, unlike Telemachus where you litertaly hear Athena’s themes telling us she was helping him, we don’t hear any trace of ares theme at all. Him helping him also doesn’t make sense Athena promised him bloodshed why would he help cause that bloodshed he wants ody to prove himself
Now I wonder, are the suitors the ones singing the chorus? Or Odysseus broke the rule of mortals=organic chorus because he became more than just a man? (I'm going for the second one)
I absolutely adore how every time previously "open arms" has been brought up casper has been near inconsolable, but this time he just starts cackling maniacally because me too lmfao. That suitor was begging for forgiveness but in doing so just sealed his fate.
Those who asked for mercy were looking for a quick way to save their lives, an empty pardon... a totally false open arms to save themselves, almost the same as how Odysseus asked Poseidon for forgiveness for hurting Polyphemus... and both ended in a massacre.
Not to mention he kept calling Odysseus "Old King". Idk if he's just dumb or so far up his butt in manipulation that he doesn't catch that bit of disrespect
In the Odyssey, Eurymachus (the one who begs for forgiveness) was nice to Penelope, gaining the favor of her father and brothers. He claimed to be fond of Telemachus. However, he was a liar and deceitful and plotted Telemachus death. When Odysseus returned and killed Antinous, Eurymachus pinned all the blame on Antinous. Uh, no one bought it. Eurymachus died :3 In the context of EPIC I find it funny that the guy with a name 2 letters off from Eurylochus was dropping Polites line
Amphinomus (the "damn he's more cunning than I assumed" guy) on the other hand, was genuinely nice and was against the crimes of the other suitors. Wish any of that made it into the song, instead of him just being another bad guy :c
Fun fact - every time you hear "where is he? Where is the man who XYZ", that's a reprise of Man of the House, a cut song about Ody's past. "Time is fleeting, it's running out, time to be the man of the house" Also comes from that. The suitors reprise Man of the House in every song they're in because they want to be the man of the house so badly.
I haven't seen anyone else point out yet the Storm theme in "Odysseus" when the suitor is talking to Telemachus. "Head towards the island but avoid the crashing waves" "Brothers, we've got company and he's made a grave mistake" Ody really did learn that Ruthlessness was Mercy when he stabbed that same suitor too!
Ok so the thing about the singer there (Melanthius) is that he isn’t technically a suitor! He’s actually one of Odysseus’ servants in the original myth but chose to align himself with the suitors - he gets a very grisly and personal death to two of the loyal servants (Philotius and Eumaeus) who torture him and give him one of THE MOST disrespectful and painful deaths in Greek mythology!
That's what it was? To me it sounded like some of the lines from Wouldn't You Like. "Brothers, we've got company and he's made a grave mistake." "She can turn you to an animal that'll end up on her plate."
it's because in both cases the leader is rallying troops and giving them instructions on how to beat an unbeatable foe (melanthius against odysseus and odysseus against the storm)
Fun fact: Ody's song is named after himself because he became the monster he said he was on the Underworld saga, just like the other monsters that have their names on their songs (Polyphemus, Scylla and Charybdis.) Edit: And he's also using everything he learned during his journey: Trapping them (like Polyphemus) inside his own palace (like Circe), aiming for the torches (like Scylla) and being ruthless (like Poseidon)
What a great observation if only Casper noticed 🤔, just kidding I leave comments before finishing the video all the time too, and it is a great observation!
25:19 I love that Odysseus actually said it. Antinous has been dancing around that word, and it’s *so* powerful to hear Ody go out and say it to prove just how pissed he is!
YES! I love that Odysseus forced them to face the reality of what they wanted to do, nothing to hide behind anymore, no excuse for them to give! What they wanted to do was pure evil and what mercy can there be left for monsters like that?
I mean, the guy was assaulted for 7 years. He knows the humiliation and trauma. After hearing Calypso sing that she did it out of "love," he's gonna call it out for precisely what it really is.
@@rhov-anion In the original, yes. Though I don't think Jorge took that approach here. I think in this version he purposely made her more sympathetic and likely didn't SA him, just kept trying to flirt only to keep getting rejected. Which is still bad, but not as disgustingly horrific
Hi!!! The reason why none of the suitors could string the bow was because 1- It was a "palintonos" bow, meaning it was curved the opposite way when it wasn't stringed, so it needed a trick to be stringed, 2- It originally was Heracles' mentor bow, and 3- In some versions of the Odyssey, Athena enchanted the bow so only Odysseus and Telemachus could use it!!
Omg the excited 'ooooh, who are we gonna be holding down?!' to the horrified realisation and v concerned 'oh. who are we holding down?'' moment was so funny, sorry Caspar haha!
Holy fuck Casper, I think you broke me when you pointed out the instrument was strung incorrectly lining up with the story that they can't string the bow. Thats so cool. There's more but I love how much you notice in the music to enhance the story.
Something I've seen on tiktok lately about Hold Them Down that I'm gonna say here for those who feel conflicted about liking the song: If a piece of art's subject matter is morally incorrect (eg. SA and m*rder in this case) and you like the piece of art, YOUR MORALITY IS STILL INTACT. There is nothing wrong with you for like the song! If you IDENTIFY with the villain and his actions tho... thats when we can start raising eyebrows. I'll also add bc I've seen people slamming Jorge online for writing this song: Writing this song doesnt mean he agrees with the suitors actions! He's simply retelling the story of the odyssey
People are bashing him for it? Ugh, why am I not surprised. Some people don't realize that erasure of the topic from media is just as harmful as glorification. Putting it in a villain song where you're meant to find it revolting is so far from glorification.
Exactly! And then people wonder why the “the views of the characters/art/etc etc aren’t a reflection of the creators blah blah” is constantly added to works. Critical thinking and media literacy are essential skills! It’s how you relate and understand the art that reflects your morality, not the fact that you like it. It’s supposed to make you stop, think, feel (even uncomfortable or negative feelings) so the song is doing its job! You can like it for that, for the vocals, the orchestration, clever layers, etc. ❤
Clearly we aren’t supposed to be rooting for the suitors in hold them down. That’s why Odysseus is such a bloody song because we are cheering their deaths because of how despicable they are
Your reaction to Ody refusing open arms is a pure gold. Jorge really is a genius, because in the "Hold them down" he made all of us hate suitors so much, we all are positively cheering when Ody succumbs to monstrosity, lol.
I’m kinda surprised that I haven’t heard anyone point out just how similar Telemachus sounds to Odysseus sometimes, especially when he says “get off me” in song 3 Jorge really nailed the casting with this one (and all the others ofc)
I don’t know if this would count as a spoiler. But warning anyway. The suitor Amphinomus, the one saying: “Damn, he’s more cunning…” who Telemachus killed In the original Odyssey was actually the one to dissuade the suitors-TWICE to not murder Telemachus since he was a decent guy, ironically got killed by him
I honestly don't love EPIC's change to Amphinomus. Like, in the original he's kind of not that bad a guy- he warns beggar!Odysseus to leave once he infiltrates the suitors' hall, as something dangerous is brewing- he repeatedly asks the other suitors not to kill Telemachus, and as far as I can tell, he wasn't a part of Antinous's faction at all./
@@aadityayanamandra8846 Ody also warned him to leave before he started, and I think Amphinomus tried, but he was compelled by Athena to stay, because he was still a suitor, and she wanted them all dead. At least from the info I've read more recently. I haven't touched the actual Odyssey in about 23 years lol
If you listen closely in Hold them down, you can hear Odysseus singing along in the beginning with the suitors, then he leaves so while Antinous is talking hes stringing the bow, also the beginning of the song is Penelopes theme but wrong Also its a bit implied they wouldn't just have their way with Penelope "slowly break his pride, trust, faith and bones"
yeah it's a bit more subtle in the case of Telemachus, but such an act used to humiliate a man was very much a thing in Ancient Greece. And I simply wouldn't put it past Antinous considering how willing he is to fantasize about and commit other vile acts.
Fun fact Jorge has recently released that the no longer you vocals were on his patreon (maybe youtube later) "Sciren song" "Sylla throght" "Mutiny" "Lightning bolt" And two new ones "Hurt po-sie-don" "Kill all the suitors for love"
@@cooper1531 Specifically "Hurt"? Because, while that is possible, that just... Sounds stupid. I feel like Jorge would write something better like that. The wiki has been using "find Poseidon" or "fight Poseidon" and both of those work so much better.
Chanting like in polyphemous, aiming for the torches like with scylla, using ruthlessness instead of embracing open arms like posiden, and funneling them into one area like a whirlpool to execute them like charybdis. He's become the true monster
Fun fact! You can see Jorge credited in Hold Them Down because he is actually in the backing vocals for most of it, as a subtle way of showing Ody was there and heard it all (the earliest I can catch it is on "Cut him down" so he heard them plan everything basically)
I think it's hilarious how Penelope tricked the suitors for twenty bloody years with the weaving and the moment she gives them an actual challenge, nobody can do it and so they think they're being played.
Technically the weaving trick was only about 7-8 years, cause its implied she started it after Anticlea died, but still its a long fucking time so I love that for her
Loved Hold Them Down, not only because of how good Aryon's performance is, but how disgusting it feels and how the very thing Odysseus was fearing during the end of "No Longer You" is exactly shown here and how it's a villain song that gets cut short, because usually in musicals, villain or antagonist songs are shown in a display of how they will do the things to this person or place, etc and even during the song it will be shown or after the song has concluded, but Antinous never gets to have this big dramatic act and not even an attempt of doing it because he gets silenced before he can encourage his fellow suitors anymore.
Note on Ody's bow: Odysseus's bow was described as Palintonos, now-a-days we'd use the term Reflex Bow. If you don't know the special method of stringing a relfex you will fail. It's as much about patience and technique as it is strength because when unstrung the bows limbs curve forward (away from the archer if held in hand properly).
Ares, the god who's never hurt a woman and loves his daughters the Amazons: "They were gonna WHAT?! Hey, have some more of the magic I gave you to kill Poseidon, little man."
The "where is he" motif, as well as the "time is fleeting, is running out, time to be the man of the house", are actually from a cut song named "Man of the House"!!! You can find it in YT, it has very cool lyrics and I'm so glad Jorge kept those motifs because I LOVE THEM
You screaming the “I BUILT IT” in the intro made me unexplicably happy, just like seeing Telemachus in Odysseus :) I’m glad I chose Odysseus to make an animatic of part of next hehe
Casper *looks horrified* Me "yeah those lyrics are horrifying" Casper "guys the violin is Penelope screaming" Me 😮 "you made it worse HOW DID YOU MAKE IT WORSE" 😢😅 I love how everyone else is reacting to the lyrics, meanwhile Casper is reacting to the actual music. And him figuring out the 3rd song title being a reference to the monsters who came before ❤ The media literacy is strong in this one.
Considering that Penelope is planning to go ahead with her challenge due to the storm she saw it should be the 600 Strike one. Otherwise she started the challenge 10 years ago and it took them until now to conclude it. So to me it feels more natural it follows straight after the last saga
@ Isn’t that what she does in the Odyssey too though? She planned it as a last attempt to stall after her other tries failed like the shroud. Then Ody came home just in time, disguised and then infiltrated the palace after he heard about the challenge? I haven’t read the Odyssey yet but that’s how it seemed to me when I looked it up
The Ody electric guitar motif being played in full force with a backing choir like Polyphemus’ at the start of “Odysseus” is some of the hypest I’ve been listening to EPIC. Also I didn’t even notice how “Odysseus” starts the same way Horse + Infant/Monster does but that’s so cool, like each of those are at completely different stages of his “transformation”
About Eurymachus (the guy who talked about open arms): he wasn't as bad as the other suitors since he didn't want to kill Telemachus, however he did still throw a chair at Odysseus when he was disguised as a beggar by Athena. And then of course, as he did in the song, blamed everything on only Antinuos.
He was even Telemachus's favorite, as he believed him to be "the best man in Ithaca" and the most deserving of Odysseus's throne, well, besides Odysseus of course xD
@@Kamarovsky_KCMI think that's Amphinomus who was straight up a nice guy and who Odysseus tried to warn before the massacre. Eurymachus was the one favored by Penolpe's father and brothers because he was charismatic and the best at gift-giving. He was also noted as deceitful however and is the one to reveal Penelope's plot with the shroud to the rest of the suitors. He's sleeping with Penelope's handmaiden/slave and tries to blame everything on Antinous after he gets killed.
@@larsdewit6521 No yeah both are correct. Amphinomus was Penelope's favorite for being kind, and Eurymachus was the rest of the family's (including Telemachus's) favorite for being generous and nearly divine. Here's a quote from around 15.520: "Eurymachus, glorious son of wise Polybus, whom now the men of Ithaca look upon as on a god. For he is by far the best man, and is most eager to marry my mother and to have the honor of Odysseus. "
Casper, excitedly: "Ooh, who are we holding down here?" [presumably thinking the answer is "the suitors"] [realizing that can't be it as Odysseus hasn't reappeared yet] Casper, filled with dread: "Oh no, who are we holding down??"
His reaction when Telemachus showed up was so wholesome! And also (pretty sure you have already seen the visuals by now, Casper, but if you haven’t SPOILER WARNING FOR VISUALS), the fact that you also totally (although unintentionally, but I mean, it’s always unintentional) called how Gwendy animated this scene and how it is super bloody, LMAO!

this comment might be drawn out but hear me out. I saw a comment somewhere else that explained that Penelope, when going through with "the challenge", would sit at the other end of the 12 axes. Therefore, she would "rather die than grow old without the best of you(Odysseus)". Now take that thought and connect it to THE UNDERWORLD where Jorge confirmed that the lines we hear from the deceased people are there final thoughts before death. Insert Odysseus' Mom, who's last thoughts before passing away were "Waiting....Waiting... etc. Now think about this while hearing the end of "The Challenge" where Penelope is coming to terms with the possibility of death and her last thoughts being the same as Odysseus' Mother.(yes, i know that Penelope didn't actually think any of the suitors would be able to complete the challenge, let alone string the bow. But this is just a fan theory and a possible connection/head canon for some of the parallels). thank you for reading :)
according to Greek mythology, Odysseus is a descendant of Hermes, as his maternal grandfather is Autolycus, who is the son of Hermes; making Odysseus the great-grandson of the god Hermes... so it might be a bit in his blood transcending the diegetic choir.
if i had a nickel for every epic saga that started with a woman that was in love with odysseus singing beautifully, id have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice Anna Lea 🤝 Wangui
Every time you swear I keep laughing bc of the dramatic “no” from Odysseus😂😂😂 The shift from “oh who are we holding down here🥰” to “oh no who are we holding down here?😳” was phenomenal 😂😂😂 ALEXANDER AYRON IS BACCKKKK😂😂 Fun fact: in hold them down during ayrons last “soul” you can actually hear the now string being pulled and then let go. It’s so cool Also, there’s nothing that is funner to watch or gives me more joy than watching mortius and Casper lose their fucking minds at epic (mostly bc my reactions were very much the same) and knowing that they have no idea what comes next ALSO ALSO ALSO HES USING THE THINGS HE LEARNED FROM THE MONSTERS - HES AIMING FOR THE TORCHES
16:10 Odysseus also gets his own death sound! When Scylla roared or Polyphemus swung his club you could hear it and it ment death, now add the same thing for the bowstring song of Odysseus!
There’s not much more I can say about how phenomenal Ayron’s vocals are as Antinuous (despite the unfortunate lyrics) but the suitor who fought Telemachus (Melanthius) SNAPPED with the singular song he was given. Telemachus’ “get off me GET OFF ME” and “fight til the prince can BARELY STAND” lives in my head rent free. (Shout out the open arms suitor too his vocals were great, tho I don’t think he actually knew who Polites was the reference was crazy lmao)
19:39 this was exactly my thought when the chanting started for 600 Strike! “Odysseus” died. The monster, a culmination of 20 years worth of pain, blood, rage, backstabbing, scheming, and a desperate drive to get home, took his place.
The channel name change was already done you good, because my stupid butt kept forgetting the name and now I finally found you and subscribed! Which could also be a bad thing, I suppose, if you dislike people either making long, or a lot of comments (to separate out different thoughts) That callback to "Do you know anything about the Odyssey" "The HUH?" already had me on my knees, so I'll definitely go back and check out more of your solo reactions
I sat with a friend of mine who I indocternated into the epic fandom right after the underworld saga came out. We both cried so much during this - its been a journey Casper, here's to whatever Jay comes to us next. I highly recommend watching the full premire party btw! They really lived themselves into the songs, and we have everything from Troy (as hermes) dancing, to fork = poseidon and a roleswapped "there are other ways of persuasion" - really fun. Also that danish...yea, as a fellow dane the same words came out of me ;-;
I just realized when you mentioned how this is the lowest that we have heard Jorge’s voice, that you kinda prophecized him having this deep low voice near the end AAAAALLL the way back to I believe when you and Mortius were going through the Ocean saga for the first time. Because you mentioned how his tone sounds the slightest bit lower when you were reacting to Storm and one of you said (jokingly) that maybe by the end of the musical that Ody would be a Basso Profundo. And you were actually kinda right! That is crazy how you can trail predictions all the way back to when you first started watching this literal MONTHS ago! 22:23 Also I hate that Gen Alpha made me think he was mewing for a sec.
I also came in during Underworld. Anniflamme's trailer somehow ended up in my feed. I went "What the hell is this?" and dove down the rabbit hole. No regrets 😁

Not So Fun Fact about the violin in Hold Them Down - not only is it meant to represent her screams as they, uh, do *THE BAD THING*, the melody of the violin is the same as Odysseus' scream at the end of Keep Your Friends Close when he's being blown away by the storm. Fucking revolting, I love it.
"OKAY YEAH GUYS WE'RE DEFINITELY DOING THE THIRD ONE IN THIS VIDEO- " [odysseus] Also, I love the "where is he?" From casper. THATS THE POINT. WHERE IS HE!?
God, just the thought that the gorgeous backround chorus of 'Penelope' at the end of "The Challenge" is likely just all of the suitors calling for her. Makes me fucking shiver.
You once said that once both of you have listened to all of Epic, you wanted to see the "real" story. For that I can recommend the video from Overly Sacastic Produktions. Of cause it is nearly 8years old by this point, but it portraits the story very well.
"Hold Them Down" is such an amazing villain song. It makes you truly hate Antinous and the suitors, while conveying intention, drive, and then we get to have that ending...SO GOOD
In the 'livestream' Jorge said in chat "I see you draw your final breath" on the last shot of "Get in the Water" so that's a pretty solid confirmation that the merciful Odysseus drowned.
A lyrical choice i dont know if others mentioned is when refering to the bow. Penelope calls it her husbands old bow. While the suitors callit the old kings bow.
jorge is a genius, penelope sings "my husband's OLD bow" while the suitors sing "the OLD king's bow" revealing how to pen he is still the king while to the suitors he is old history
I love watching your reactions cause you always catch all the foreshadowing and hidden motifs 😭 I keep waiting for someone, anyone to mention them but most people completely miss them and I go crazy. Also I can't believe I didn't catch the f****ing danger motif (after repeatedly listening to the whole saga Thanks for pointing it out. Can't wait for the last two songs.
Wow, I'm so glad you noticed how the ending connects to 'No Longer You'! (then again Casper and Motius tend to notice all the details ) The lines from Tiresias’s prophecy are - Siren song - Suffering - Scylla throat - Well, that one’s obvious! - Mutiny - That makes perfect sense! - Lightning Bolt - Thunder Bringer is such a cool way to put it! - Fight Poseidon - Six hundred strike is intense! - And 'Kill all suitors for love' really hits home. 'but it's no longer you...' And that chant of 'OO...DY....SSE..US'
I hope you enjoy this one bc the next one is just me crying. I’m not kidding.
Given what the last two songs are? Valid. Pretty sure I spent the last chunk of the livestream just crying, too.

So fun fact about Antinous’s plans to dismember Telemachus, in Ancient Greek culture dismembering someone’s corpse was seen as an extremely cruel thing to do. It was believe that you would be tearing the soul apart thus making it hard for you to join the afterlife
ON TOP OF THAT, that same belief was held when drowning in the ocean. You would be lost and your soul would never go to the Underworld. Antonius’s plan wasn’t just cruel he was literally planning to make sure Telemachus’s soul would NEVER go to the Underworld so he would never reunite with his family.

I choose to believe that in 'Odysseus' Ares imbued Ody with bloodlust due to multiple factors:
1. Ares is a protector of women. He would be absolutely disgusted hearing about Antinous's plan.
2. Penelope is a Spartan. Spartans were very proud of their military forces, and some believe that Ares was among the more worshipped gods.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk

(yes that is my name)
I don't mean to be, well, mean, but erm, how's Eurydice doing?
I'll raise my cup to you... wherever you are wandering
Hoping that our and the casts singing will bring you comfort😂🥰
1. Ares is not a protector of women, the only women he protected was from his family
2. I agree
Do you know what's better than Odysseus having his own divine choir doing his "anti-hero" song? THEY SING HIS NAME IN THE DANGER MOTIF!
"That's right Poseidon! I can do it too!"
Eurymachus died :3
In the context of EPIC I find it funny that the guy with a name 2 letters off from Eurylochus was dropping Polites line
"...name 2 letters off from Eurylochus was dropping Polites line" Damn...good catch!
Amphinomus (the "damn he's more cunning than I assumed" guy) on the other hand, was genuinely nice and was against the crimes of the other suitors. Wish any of that made it into the song, instead of him just being another bad guy :c
@Kamarovsky_KCM I was genuinely surprised when I saw his name in the livestream. He sounded so much ruder than I expected lol
Also, is it just me or he sounds very similar to Poseidon? If so, that would be even funnier. All triggers have been activated in Ody lmao
@@Skyla2839I genuinely thought it was Steven before I knew who the va was
Fun fact - every time you hear "where is he? Where is the man who XYZ", that's a reprise of Man of the House, a cut song about Ody's past. "Time is fleeting, it's running out, time to be the man of the house" Also comes from that. The suitors reprise Man of the House in every song they're in because they want to be the man of the house so badly.
I also do kind of love that basically every callback to Man of the House explicitly references Odysseus
I haven't seen anyone else point out yet the Storm theme in "Odysseus" when the suitor is talking to Telemachus.
"Head towards the island but avoid the crashing waves"
"Brothers, we've got company and he's made a grave mistake"
Ody really did learn that Ruthlessness was Mercy when he stabbed that same suitor too!
I noticed that too when re-listening to the song. I was curious to see what exactly the symbolism behind that was.
"Brothers, we've got company and he's made a grave mistake."
"She can turn you to an animal that'll end up on her plate."
oh my gods thank you! lol i was wondering where I knew that melody
it's because in both cases the leader is rallying troops and giving them instructions on how to beat an unbeatable foe (melanthius against odysseus and odysseus against the storm)
Fun fact: Ody's song is named after himself because he became the monster he said he was on the Underworld saga, just like the other monsters that have their names on their songs (Polyphemus, Scylla and Charybdis.)
Edit: And he's also using everything he learned during his journey: Trapping them (like Polyphemus) inside his own palace (like Circe), aiming for the torches (like Scylla) and being ruthless (like Poseidon)
OMG RIGHT BECAUSE IT'S A BOSS BATTLE!! DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT THAT'S SO SMART
What a great observation if only Casper noticed 🤔, just kidding I leave comments before finishing the video all the time too, and it is a great observation!

Odysseus, I Can't Help But Wonder, Would You Fall In Love With Me Again
"We are the same you and I..."
@@DmantosSanint wait holy shit
@@rhov-anion I can’t express how terribly I hate Calypso.
@@rhov-anion In the original, yes. Though I don't think Jorge took that approach here. I think in this version he purposely made her more sympathetic and likely didn't SA him, just kept trying to flirt only to keep getting rejected. Which is still bad, but not as disgustingly horrific
And the TH-camrs have to have to talk around it too! It’s taboo in our language, and Ody just says it!
There is a glitch in the matrix, I fell like a déjà-vu XD
Same, in Moritus react? Happy this comment is here. We need to push it up
"Whosoever holds this bow, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Odysseus"
My old husbands bow🚫
My husbands old bow✅
I'm sobbing.. 🥺💖
“I wonder who we’re holding down!”
…
“Wait… WHO ARE WE HOLDING DOWN??”
Something I've seen on tiktok lately about Hold Them Down that I'm gonna say here for those who feel conflicted about liking the song:
If a piece of art's subject matter is morally incorrect (eg.
You've seen people slamming Jorge for this? Why are people so stupid?
I’m kinda surprised that I haven’t heard anyone point out just how similar Telemachus sounds to Odysseus sometimes, especially when he says “get off me” in song 3
Jorge really nailed the casting with this one (and all the others ofc)
That sucks
If you listen closely in Hold them down, you can hear Odysseus singing along in the beginning with the suitors, then he leaves so while Antinous is talking hes stringing the bow, also the beginning of the song is Penelopes theme but wrong
Also its a bit implied they wouldn't just have their way with Penelope "slowly break his pride, trust, faith and bones"
yeah it's a bit more subtle in the case of Telemachus, but such an act used to humiliate a man was very much a thing in Ancient Greece. And I simply wouldn't put it past Antinous considering how willing he is to fantasize about and commit other vile acts.
You can hear it better if you're wearing headphones- his voice is prominent in the left ear
I WAS WONDERING WHY I HEARD HIM this makes so much sense
I hope someone edits the music so he's more audible. I really can't hear him
Fun fact
Jorge has recently released that the no longer you vocals were on his patreon (maybe youtube later)
"Sciren song"
"Sylla throght"
"Mutiny"
"Lightning bolt"
And two new ones
"Hurt po-sie-don"
"Kill all the suitors for love"
Very cool.
Sorry to say, but we have known these for a WHILE. Also it is for sure not "Hurt" Poseidon. That sounds stupid as hell.
@ravrin_plays_zelda It is though. Jorge confirmed it on his Patreon.
@@cooper1531 Specifically "Hurt"? Because, while that is possible, that just... Sounds stupid. I feel like Jorge would write something better like that. The wiki has been using "find Poseidon" or "fight Poseidon" and both of those work so much better.
@ravrin_plays_zelda that is why I said "and two new ones" because the other ones we knew, and those two are new
Chanting like in polyphemous, aiming for the torches like with scylla, using ruthlessness instead of embracing open arms like posiden, and funneling them into one area like a whirlpool to execute them like charybdis. He's become the true monster
And inside his own palace like Circe.
Fun fact! You can see Jorge credited in Hold Them Down because he is actually in the backing vocals for most of it, as a subtle way of showing Ody was there and heard it all (the earliest I can catch it is on "Cut him down" so he heard them plan everything basically)
The "No" censor is hilarious
I think it's hilarious how Penelope tricked the suitors for twenty bloody years with the weaving and the moment she gives them an actual challenge, nobody can do it and so they think they're being played.
Technically the weaving trick was only about 7-8 years, cause its implied she started it after Anticlea died, but still its a long fucking time so I love that for her
23:12 Finally someone recognizes Legendary and Athena’s motif and I knew it would be you Casper!!!!!
He's gonna get all the motifs in the last song, I bet!
Yes! I’ve been waiting for it… (and i realised the pun as i was typing… 😅).
A he was getting popcorn he wants ody to prove himself he wouldn’t help
The "where is he" motif, as well as the "time is fleeting, is running out, time to be the man of the house", are actually from a cut song named "Man of the House"!!! You can find it in YT, it has very cool lyrics and I'm so glad Jorge kept those motifs because I LOVE THEM
You screaming the “I BUILT IT” in the intro made me unexplicably happy, just like seeing Telemachus in Odysseus :)
I’m glad I chose Odysseus to make an animatic of part of next hehe
I DIED at the evil cackle Casper, when they asked for forgiveness -- omg 😂🤣🤣😂 you killed meeeee
The fact that that “no” is being used every time Casper curses is making me laugh every time!
Casper *looks horrified*
Me "yeah those lyrics are horrifying"
Casper "guys the violin is Penelope screaming"
Me 😮 "you made it worse HOW DID YOU MAKE IT WORSE" 😢😅 I love how everyone else is reacting to the lyrics, meanwhile Casper is reacting to the actual music.
I don't know why he assumed that. It's been 10 years. Of course it's from tenderising Poseidon.
@@vic-c2x lol tenderising Poseidon
Well in the Odessy, ody is the one to do the challenge while in disguise I like it that it was her own idea here
@ Isn’t that what she does in the Odyssey too though?
Here's a quote from around 15.520:
"Eurymachus, glorious son of wise Polybus, whom now the men of Ithaca look upon as on a god. For he is by far the best man, and is most eager to marry my mother and to have the honor of Odysseus. "
Casper, excitedly: "Ooh, who are we holding down here?"
[presumably thinking the answer is "the suitors"]
[realizing that can't be it as Odysseus hasn't reappeared yet]
Casper, filled with dread: "Oh no, who are we holding down??"
“Ive been waiting for this moment for the perfect time” ahh moment. Finally Casper!!
8:28 "Ooo who are we holding down here" 😆 "oh no..who are we holding down" 😶
A:"Only the ocean and i will know."
P:"Nah fam you leave me out of this."
If worst came to worst, I don’t think the ocean would take him!
@claran3616 especially because them killing him that way would mean he wouldn't get to go to the underworld due to lacking proper funeral rites
"Cause i'd rather die than grow old without the best of you!"
Best of you=Odysseus 😭💖 he's the only one capable of doing the challenge..
14:03 Casper swearing in danish is deserved for this one!

More organically translated, it would be something along the lines of "That's fucking nasty, you big jerk!".
this comment might be drawn out but hear me out.
That may just be a headcanon or maybe just canon to the musical, that doesn’t happen in the Odyssey at least
according to Greek mythology, Odysseus is a descendant of Hermes, as his maternal grandfather is Autolycus, who is the son of Hermes; making Odysseus the great-grandson of the god Hermes... so it might be a bit in his blood transcending the diegetic choir.

Also, there’s nothing that is funner to watch or gives me more joy than watching mortius and Casper lose their fucking minds at epic (mostly bc my reactions were very much the same) and knowing that they have no idea what comes next
ALSO ALSO ALSO HES USING THE THINGS HE LEARNED FROM THE MONSTERS - HES AIMING FOR THE TORCHES
16:10 Odysseus also gets his own death sound! When Scylla roared or Polyphemus swung his club you could hear it and it ment death, now add the same thing for the bowstring song of Odysseus!
7:47 - "Anna Lea's vocals are absolutely incredible, as you guys *know*"
As a fellow Dane, hearing you revert to the mother tongue when faced with the pure despicableness of Antinous, was the most relatable thing ever.

Which could also be a bad thing, I suppose, if you dislike people either making long, or a lot of comments (to separate out different thoughts)
That callback to "Do you know anything about the Odyssey" "The HUH?" already had me on my knees, so I'll definitely go back and check out more of your solo reactions
3:25 I actually think she was talking about the storm from 600 Strike
The way casper getting every little detail from get-go this man is so good

We both cried so much during this - its been a journey Casper, here's to whatever Jay comes to us next. I highly recommend watching the full premire party btw!

He's using Ody's "no" to cover his cussing instead of "what" now lmao
"Hold Them Down" is such an amazing villain song. It makes you truly hate Antinous and the suitors, while conveying intention, drive, and then we get to have that ending...SO GOOD
Oh “draw your final breath” is I think referring to his non-monster side of him drowning after Poseidon throws him to the bottom of the ocean.
@AddisonDoud Mediterranean Sea*
In the 'livestream' Jorge said in chat "I see you draw your final breath" on the last shot of "Get in the Water" so that's a pretty solid confirmation that the merciful Odysseus drowned.

Strange you didn't mention it, Casper, but the electric guitar in Odysseus is the same one in the beginning of Six Hundred Strike

Wow, I'm so glad you noticed how the ending connects to 'No Longer You'! (then again Casper and Motius tend to notice all the details ) The lines from Tiresias’s prophecy are
- Siren song - Suffering
- Scylla throat - Well, that one’s obvious!
- Mutiny - That makes perfect sense!
- Lightning Bolt - Thunder Bringer is such a cool way to put it!
- Fight Poseidon - Six hundred strike is intense!
- And 'Kill all suitors for love' really hits home.
'but it's no longer you...'
And that chant of 'OO...DY....SSE..US'
Bro the thing you said about the violin in Hold Them Down messed me up so bad 😭
'Brothers we've got company' - definetely the same as 'she can turn into an animal that will end up on her plate' hermes
« Forgive us instead! » Casper cackles like a witch! « Let’s have open arms instead! » cackles even more. Ya, that’s was pretty much my reaction too.
