16 year old me......5 days before release, I was at toys r us and saw that they already had the tickets and sleeve placed out with the box flap for the game. I figured it was worth a shot so we took the ticket to the cashier and she rang it up.... then sent me to the mysterious window...where they handed over the game. I stared in disbelief as I managed to get the game early due to the store making a mistake. I then went home and dragged my basement tv into the garage so I could smoke cigarettes while playing. Played 17hrs straight, went to bed, woke up, put in 20hrs.... continued like that until beating it. Just an amazing memory from a great game. My band at the time had a show that weekend so my guitarist and I split immediately after our set so we could head back to the garage hahahaha. Nothing like killing off a pack a day while playing video games in a garage. I even used an old table from an Arbys that was my first job.
I Never had a Nintendo console, but I did get to play this game at a friends for about an hour back in like 98-99, I thought it was pretty cool back then, but this was at a time when Final Fantasy on playstation looked all sleek so this seemed a little 'cartoony' and dated at the time. But watching this now, it's aged really well and probably looks better than FFVII and VIII in some ways today. It really does still have the feel of a classic Zelda whilst still being all 3d, even those sounds when you've opened a door or pushed blocks into the right place straight out of OG Zelda give me a little chill. A rare game that did the transition from 2D to 3D with perfection and without losing its charm.
The problem with Navi is that she frequently _forces_ you to listen to her; it would have been much better if she always went "hey!" when she wanted to say something, so that you could ignore her and skip all the bullshit that she has already told you in earlier playthroughs if you wanted to do that. Nobody wants to be forced into mandatory tutorials and explanations.
First Zelda game I ever played. Can't believe I never played a Zelda game before finally playing this one in 2009, despite owning a Nintendo 64 since 2001. Never played an action-adventure game where you are trying to solve puzzles half the time. And the game didn't give you hints either. And a lot of the puzzles weren't easy to figure out, so you might get stuck trying to figure it out. It was all new to me. I ruined my experience with OOT, but I would go on to play Twilight Princess and Wind Waker and experience them properly. Only know a few games outside of Zelda that have Zelda-like puzzles, like Ico, the God of War games and the Paper Mario games.
Its not exactly the same, but try to get ahold of mother 3. I only played it a little on my phone, but my little experience with it was positive. Not as cerebral and intense as earthboud but its weird and definitely still good
I remember one of my mates had a walk-through book for this game had about 300 pages or something like that, awesome game, never owned it but played it alot.
@@mikematei apparently it randomizes the item placement inside _every_ chest of the game. For example, you could get the Kokiri Sword in the chest that normally contains the hook shot XD _Any_ item found in a chest can be found in _any_ chest.
Question for any 3D heads in here. How was this game 3d modeled back in '98? Software like Maya was JUST released that year, so were the models and texture maps using proprietary soft. for Nintendo? Or something else? Just Curious...
A.) self written software and b.) libs and frameworks from the chip developer. And at least: we are talking about very simple geometry and very simple textures......many things could also be done by „hand“.

I'm going back through this too! Just pulled the Master Sword. Truly a legendary game.
The game of my childhood is still great today! I knew I had good taste back then!
Now that I have played it on the 3ds it's hard to look at the old graphics. That facelift was a huge benefit, 3d was just fun for the epic cutscenes

It’s not frequent. She does it like 4-5 times in the entire game

Have you ever considered playing through the Puncih-Out!! series on stream? In particular, the Wii Punch-Out!! and its predecessor Super Punch-Out!!?
Just curious: how'd a randomizer for OoT work?
I don't know how a randomizer would work for it. I guess there is one?
