To palpate the apex beat there is no need to shift the position of pt. As it can change the position of apex beat. So bottom line is if apex beat is not palpable say it apex beat not palpable.Reference Hutchinson.
7:29 should we move the patient to left lateral? Will this not cause shifting of apex beat ? I think it should be done in sitting and leaning forward position!,, anybody please clearify if I m wrong!!

In left lat if apex is palpable, hypothetically its 1 cm away from the normalcy
