I never thought I'd say it but I test drove this car yesterday and was very impressed. So much that I'll be getting one this week. It's really not that bad but this is coming from a guy who has driven an "05" XB for the past 10 years. It may not be the prettiest car on the road but it's affordable and will get you where you need to go. Be safe and considerate out there people.
I was recently in a car accident, I was rear-ended and I had the 2014 Prius C. I'm a practical guy and I have a long commute, so the Prius is the car for me. I got a rental (Nissan Sentra), and I've had it for 1 week, and I've already spent more than $80 on gas. It helped my decision to continue with the Prius (I've always liked it anyway), but also go with the standard Prius as opposed to the C which is the smaller one. The accident really affected my decision. And since Prius/Toyota don't depreciate as fast as other cars, I'm getting a pre-owned 2017. This review definitely assured me that I've made the right decision for myself.
I assumed that sunglasses were the simple solution ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at least here in CA (where the review was filmed, too) it just makes sense to carry a pair in your car. I guess the heat from the sun can still be an issue, though.
My mom owns one and I drive it occasionally. I dont know why people hate on it so much. In SoCal, when will you ever have to drive 0-60 in 2.3 seconds in traffic? And gas efficiency is really good, ours averaged to around 54 mpg so we save quite a bit. And it's roomy so you can drive people comfortably and carry a bunch of stuff in the back.
I got to say, when I saw it online, at first I thought it looked trash but after seeing it by myself in the street, I found it very beautiful. My only complain in the interior instrument panel.
I had a prius ('07) and loved it. I love the '17 even more. I'm trying to convince the husband to let me get one. Didn't quite understand your dissatisfaction with the brakes, tho.

Every time the latest was sold, Prius criticized the design severely. 4 generation Prius would also be got used to seeing immediately. An important thing should know the performance to have evolved remarkably.
I & my wife both own 2006 Prius'. Going on 12 years and a combined 330K miles, both cars are flawless and unbelievably cheap to own, maintain and operate. Although I find the styling of the new (regular) Prius beyond confusing (the 'plug-in" much more attractive)... I suspect the build quality and engineering to be the best on the planet... The other hybrids don't compare IMHO :)
AWESOME I got one in white exterior and black interior with some white touch ups. Lovin it! I see supercarsuspects crashing and I never saw a Prius crashed and that gear shifter was awesome. BOOYAH Prius is now the king
I love this car, bought one for my wife and we both like the tail lights, so weird and cool and different. All the beeping is kind of annoying but we are getting 65 mpg currently and there's nothing like going to the gas station every other month. Now excuse me while I wait for my Tesla 3 =)
Great review! We stole a 2017 Prius 2 (basic package) from our local Toyota dealer a few days ago for $21K so still having fun learning what our first-ever Hybrid can do. YES the visor DOES suck! And that annoying backup beep makes me want to put on a hard hat. I don't know why you don't like the brakes..they are better than the brakes in my Tundra. She just went over 105 miles yet my fuel gauge still shows totally full. (11 gallon gas tank means I can go around 600 miles before filling up.)
Aaron Walker - it certainly grows on you. I have test drove one twice, and am contemplating getting one, as it is far better dynamically than they ever were in the past.
I wasn't sure about the styling at first but now I absolutely love it! It looks like a vicious demon, especially in red. Which of course is ugly, but in a cool badass way.

My girlfriend had a Honda Element. Hated it at first when it came out. That thing was my Scion XB on steroids. It was a great car that helped us out a couple times while moving but it is the reason I'll NEVER buy a car with high ground clearance. Some asshole came a long, went under the car and hacked off the catalytic converter. It costs $1200.00 to fix.
The only things I truly dislike about the Prius are the exterior styling and the infotainment system. *Almost everything else is very sensibly designed.*

If the battery does fail in the first 100,000 miles (or first 150,000 if your state adheres to the california EPA regulations), then the replacement cost is covered. If not, I've seen costs at about $3,000. But really, if you do your research, you will see very few reports of batteries failing, and if they do, many of them are well past 200,000 miles.
Actually, if you buy from Toyota they will give you core return on the old one which, last I checked, was almost a thousand bucks! That said, if you search on eBay you will see there are also aftermarket (non-Toyota) batteries for sale. Also when the battery "dies" it is usually just one or two cells, which you can also buy online and swap with your dead ones.

My big gripe with the current Prius: it's just *WAY* overstyled, literally to the point of ugliness. At least Honda got it right with the 2019 Insight, which actually looks nice (mostly because they took the current Civic sedan design and toned down the front and rear end design).

Well, the prius isn't designed just to be fuel efficient; it's desgined to be a good compromise between fuel efficiency and practicality. You don't have to carry large objects, but you can if you want. Even with stuff in the trunk, the Prius still gets better MPG than most cars.
When I was a teenager, I used to watch supercar reviews. Now that I am an adult, I watch Prius reviews.

Had one for two months, really pleased, love the styling inside and out, v good fuel consumption 70- 80 mpg and surprisingly quick.
