    "You don't have to be a hyper miler to get great mileage from your hybrid" as the video promptly teaches us how to hyper mile

  • @lordrefrigeratorintercoole288
    @lordrefrigeratorintercoole288 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    i bought a hybrid to not hyper mile...
    My tips to drive a hybrid fast:
    -Switch to normal mode, use ECO mode only in traffic and parking lots
    -Smash the gas pedal to get up to speed, and release the paddle enough to keep the desired speed
    -Always drive in SPORT MODE on high ways, when driving at the speed limit the car will recharge the battery fast
    -Only over take when the battery is full, this way you get max power
    -When approaching a tight turn, shift to B And lightly break for max regen, you need all the battery to quickly accelerate out of a turn
    -Turn off TCC, your hybrid has a battery in the back, it can do scandy flicks without a hand break (only if you know how to do them)
    enjoy

      Yup. Now they make em very robust. I drive like a maniac, but its still a way better mileage than regular gasoline car. Once you taste the instant torque of AWD with electric motor, there is no going back.

    I replaced my 2007 Highlander Hybrid with a 2017 Highlander Hybrid, and I've been using these techniques for many years. To my pleasant surprise I'm consistently getting 10-15% BETTER mileage than the car's EPA estimates! With my 2007 I never a once got a tankful at more than 30.0 MPG. But with this car I haven't gotten a tankful BELOW 30 MPG yet! I'm routinely getting 31-32 MPG, well above the EPA estimates.

      Tabish Syed which level of trim do you drive and are you familiar with the many modes available in the car like Eco Mode? The car is only as good as the driver. Speeding is the No.1 cause of fuel economy followed by fast acceleration and rushing red lightsaber/stop signs. Very common US driver habits.

    idling is the best part of a hybrid. it shouldn’t be discouraged

    • @MylesV
      @MylesV 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's discouraged because the car uses the battery power to run the electronics, AC, etc. while stopped and by turning the car off more battery power can be used for driving. They aren't saying you can't idle, but that idling will reduce your fuel economy. Of course the decrease won't be nearly as much as in a traditional vehicle at least.

    Hey Toyota, My name is Marcos. I'm a Brazilian and a big fan of your vehicles. I wish to be your 'Guinea Pig' customer for your next generation of the hybrid technology vehicles.
    I live 30 kilometers away from work, between highways and urban roads (Sao Paulo traffic jam), which makes a total of 60 kilometers per day. This would be quite an opportunity for the company to test the efficiency of Toyotas hybrid powetrains in the most heaviest daily test ever made.
    Therefore, I would gladly take this opportunity to be the very first civilian 'tester', in Brazil, of any future project of Toyota's vehicles.

If I just relax and drive it like a non hybrid, I dont know if Id get over 35 mpg. my old Escort gets that no matter how I drive, 80 mph with AC on and I'm totally relaxed driving it. Paid $500 for the Escort with new tires! $5500 for the Prius that I can't figure out how to really relax in (yet)!

      Unless your Prius is a plugin there is no way you can average 100 mpg.
      I drove my daughters Prius c in a traffic jam on the freeway and made few complete stops. I coasted when I saw tail lights ahead and I accelerated like an egg was under my foot and I managed 65 mpg while in the slowed traffic on the freeway which was about 45 minutes.
      There is no way I could have pushed it to 100 mpg. I was driving 5 to 15 mph for 45 minutes with very few complete stops.

My best fuel economy over a 12.5 mile trip was 102.26 mpg. And there it was a few ft uphill for the entire distance. My last full tank of gas was 65.33 mpg for 687 miles. Pulse and Glide is described in the wrong way. Some instructions in the video are the opposite of saving fuel. You have to accelerate with the engine, not with the electric motor. From stop this is a relatively strong acceleration. Then you can coast electric only. Taking off slowly just wastes the valuable electric energy in the battery, instead of using the engine directly.
    The dedicated EV-Mode accessed through the EV-Button is for short drives around the block only and is a comfort feature, not a fuel saving feature.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 ปีที่แล้ว

      nnno, that's generally not recommended. During regular driving, the engine will charge the battery if it detects it is getting low. You don't have to worry about the change just dropping, the car will take care of it. Brake like you normally would. The only reason you might want to force charge an engine is if you really want to crank the battery from 2 bars to 6 bars, and you do that by holding the car stationary and tapping the throttle until the engine turns on.

    Making yourself uncomfortable by not turning on the AC to get a negligible boost in fuel economy doesn’t make you environmentally conscious, it just makes you cheap.

      Once you start to drive a Hybrid....no one else on the road matters, It feels like you are driving a golf cart doing 60....I feel unsecured AF lol other cars are all leaving you in the dust and its super uncomfortable to drive on the freeway. No acceleration

    ... only Toyota will you see them define the word hypermiler in a video. That is like seeing a video featuring a Ford vehicle show the definition of the word "Car". (also the video doesn't define "glide" as in "pulse and glide") ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
