Wow! Thank you so much for this demo! I thought I was partial to looking into a 20 one but now I will consider a 30 one as well!

You are welcome! Both models are great machines, the 301 is lighter and a little easier to service. But the 201 is sort of the “Cadillac” of vintage Singers so you can’t go wrong with either!

I have this machine. She's a gooder for sure! I bought the button holer with cams that I can't wait to try. I love the sound of this machine. It's just so satisfying to listen to.I found that mine doesn't sew exactly between the toes of the foot. It sews more to the left side. Is that normal? Yours seems to sew more to the middle?? Or maybe I'm seeing things?

Hi! I have found that sometimes the needle doesn’t come down directly in the center of the hole in the needle plate. As long as it’s not striking anything then it shouldn’t cause a problem. Now, if that part is fine and the needle just isn’t centered between the toes on the presser foot, some things I would check: Try a new needle, take the presser foot off and put it back on, and finally the usual cause for this…make sure the presser bar is set properly in the machine, it could be slightly twisted making so that the presser foot is slightly crooked which would make it so the needle doesn’t come down directly in the middle of the toes. I hope that helps! If you are stuck feel free to send me some pictures of the problem to jen@sewingmachinerehab.com

Thank you for posting this video. I just got a 301A in black with the long deck and am learning how to clean and use it. Do you know of any videos on repairing the original Singer case? Thank you!😎

Hi again! I don't have any videos on case repair/restoration. I have done a few repairs to the handles and etc but usually I just focus on the machines. The 301 cases were kind of delicate in my opinion and I don't often come across one that is sturdy enough that I feel comfortable just carrying it by the handle. I am not sure if there are any 301 case repair videos out there or not. Hopefully you can find one!

Hello! I have my grams 301 and have been learning all about it! Do you think I would be able to quilt (just starting to learn) without changing anything- tension or foot pressure? I was messing around with it and then realized I don't know enough about the machine to be messing around with the knobs!!!

HI! How sweet and wonderful to have your grams 301! Yes, they are perfect for quilting! I can’t say whether you will have to adjust any settings without seeing the machine but they are very simple and user friendly! If you can find my video on how to reassemble the 301 tension and zero it out, you will learn a lot! You should have perfect tension at a 3 or 4 for quilting and piecing of your 301 is already working properly. Test sew on some scrap fabric first until you get the hang of it. Good luck, I am rooting for you!

Oh holly needle!! Old things may show off! Now they are called industrial machines. 🥵 How much does this oldie cost today restored by a workshop? My soviet replica went to the dumpster about 15 years ago.

These machines are tanks compared to some of the modern machines on the market today for sure. Not sure I would call them industrial but I have used the 301's on heavy things like denim and have been very pleased with the results. Restoration cost varies depending on who is doing it and what needs to be done. Love them though!

      301s and 301A's run $200 - $400 unrestored.

      @@mjremy2605 I'll skip that :-)) 300-euro is a single feed industrial (350 med-heavy fabric) in my area, a double feed is 450-euro.

How i wish i had bought my 301 from your shop rather than the random dude on ebay. My machine has a thunk sound as the needle lifts up out of the feed dogs.

Oh no! Does it stitch ok? There are a couple things that could cause that noise but I would need to know a few more details.

Wonderful machine, newer isn’t always better. Take into consideration the age of the machine. The machines of today will NEVER last that long.
