  • 2020 was a hell of a year! We spent 2020 searching for off grid property, buying a home that burned to the ground and then buying another.
This is the story of how we bought our off grid property and all the misadventures we had along the way. If you're looking for property, I promise these tips will help you!

We're John and Greta and we've been living off grid in eastern Washington since 2020. We're just a couple Gen X-ers, minding our business, getting back to basics, and enjoying the comforts that make life worth living.
Our farm is in a high desert region, meaning water is scarce. In winter, temps can dip below -30F and it snows a lot! Despite the challenges, we're happy here growing our food, creating our power from solar and wind, chopping firewood, and baking from scratch. We live simply and work with what we have.
Our videos are practical, sometimes steering into the philosophical, but always created to help others who are interested in off grid living. Whether your exploring an off grid life for your future or just curious about this lifestyle, you're welcome here. Thanks for watching!

Have you ever experienced a wildfire or some other disaster? I don't have to tell YOU how life-changing it can be! What happened to you and what next steps did you take to heal and move on? Thanks for being here!

OMGSH!! The fire story is an incredible story. This deserves its own video. By the current title, I thought this video was just another “we went off grid” video. Should be titled “Fire burned our off grid home, but not our spirit.”
This is an incredible story. Please make a video about that saga. You guys have a unique story to tell.
PS Jon’s dolor set up video was awesome. One of the most complete and clearly explained I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot of them.
This is such an excellent channel. 47 views on this video at the time of writing. I hope my comment helps others to find this incredible content. ❤

That's a great title. Maybe I'll change it. Thanks! I think our low-key attitude probably affects my titles. I don't want to be all click-baity. :-)

Okay - I changed the title and thumbnail! :-) I'm working on a video now about fire protection around the off grid home but, you're right, that story probably deserves its own spotlight (including the insurance debacle!).

@@LoveOffGrid in this case, it’s not click-baity at all. I’ve seen a few of those, and those stories don’t come close to your ordeal.

@@LoveOffGrid wow. Now I’ve got skin in the game. Lol :-). Curious to see if it grabs more attention. The insurance part is a definite must.
Even though you don’t have much footage, your storytelling skills will fill in the visual gaps.
Thanks for considering my suggestion. I love finding good channels in their infancy and watching / helping them grow. This is my 3rd. The other two are doing crazy numbers, now. I guess it’s my years of working in business development and marketing which compel me to open my big mouth even though I wasn’t asked. But, also you guys seem like awesome people, so I wanna help if I can. It’s a gen X thing, again. :-)

We really appreciate the suggestions! It's encouraging to see my numbers go up, but I also want to put out information that really helps people. Numbers are secondary. It's difficult to go against the grain and live off grid and there are so many misconceptions about it! Our aim is to live "comfortably" off grid and we want to show that it can be done... with a lot of hard work!
Anyway, always open your big mouth :-) We appreciate YOU.
