Well to be fair on your point of Aegon and Rhaenys only having Aenys. Rhaenys did die during the first dornish war. Leaving Aegon unable to sire more children with her. And Aegon and Visenya's relationship grew increasingly distant as the years went on. Likely explaining why Maegor was the only child born between them.

Aenys reign is a perfect example of the ideal that the most dangerous time in a newly established ruling dynasty's reign is the second king. The Lords didnt rebel against Aegon because they both respected and feared him, as he had united six kingdoms through not only Fire and Blood, but also through wise and just rule, and respect for Westerosi traditions. Aenys didnt have that same respect, and so the lords would obviously test him, and obviously found him wanting. The fact that House Targaryen survived Aenys reign is a small miracle. Maegor, as cruel and vicious as he was, probably saved House Targaryen because he established the fear of their house in the Lords of Westeros, and breaking the militant power of those hyper conservative jackles of the Faith.

    • @iMajoraGaming

      @@ziomczan5794
1; those aren't the seven kingdoms.
2; the targaryens didn't control seven until daeron ii.
the iron islands and the riverlands are a single kingdom. there is no king of the riverlands. there is no singular king of the iron islands. there /is/ a king of the isles and rivers, though.
also, dorne is the seventh kingdom.
the conqueror claimed, as did every subsequent non-ruling monarch, to be kings of dorne, in spite of not holding it for the first century and a half of their time on the continent, and in spite of the first/second queen of westeros getting taken out by a scorpion bolt in dorne the first time they tried.
the entite counterpoint the dornish had to targaryen annexation was that, ipso facto, they didn't /have/ a king of dorne, therefore there was no conflict, because there was no one with the title to contest his claim of being king, so they didn't care if aegon called himself king of dorne. he could call himself that, even include it in his "seven kingdoms" if he wanted, they wouldn't fight him over it. but he nor anyone of his kin or descendants was to *ever* attempt to exert control over dorne.
"you are not wanted here. return at your peril."
aegon being aegon, was not satisfied with only having dorne on paper, even if in theory he could gradually encroach and eventually exert more control over time. he had had no difficulty in crushing dissent before, why would dorne be any different?
well, the dornish were literally descended from a core population that had spent centuries fighting the valyrians in essos before eventually leaving mother rhoyne. they had passed down direct knowledge of how to fight dragons.
      *you don't.*
you just refuse to meet them with any organized force. you abandon every city and castle, and refuse to engage except in isolation.
and so rhaenys was plucked from the sky by some dude with a scoripion hidden in the middle of the desert, because hidden from any flying dragon, tucked in hundreds of hidden positions, were individual pockets of resistance waiting for weeks for the possibility of such an encounter.
even after aegon and visenya literally razed dorne to the ground in response, they just came back out after the dragons left and resumed life.
this cycle continued for generations, all because targaryen pride was too great to allow themselves to receive a title that didn't exist without also receiving utter submission, a title they were outright told "we don't care, call yourself whatever, just don't invade us or try to occupy dorne by force or expect us to be like the other six of your realms" about
they had it in the palms of their collective hands and, like robert, fiending for more wine, demanded simply; *m o r e.*

Same with Viserys. Jahaerys was very effective and considered calm and reasonable. He was able to clean up the messes made by both Anys and Meagor. He wasn't stupid nor avoided responsibilities. Niceness isn't ineffective just as tyranny isn't strength. It's intelligence that's needed most of all.

Let's be honest, both kids are more then likely Aegon's sons. To start off with, slander of foreign conquers and especially women is common in our history, and also in that setting. Also, with how often Aegon was on the move, all of them were fighting wars etc. It's not unlikely.
Plus, the argument that it's weird that in about 40 years Aegon only had 1 son with each wife, is not an argument. At the same time you can say that if Rhaenys would cheat once, she would cheat more often, and thus create more offspring with other men. So that's not even an argument.

Granted, I feel Maegor was too far on the extreme side, which isn't good either. If Aegon the Uncrowned had, well, been crowned as King, Maegor being Master of War and Visenya as hand (or shoot, do this during Aenys' reign, as a matter of fact) would've been ideal, and maybe would've worked out better
As for the Targaryen Dynasty being a farce and all descendant from some other Valyrian bastard mothered by the Sister-wife Rhaenys, I don't think it would be fitting at all tbh. Like, it would ruin the storyline of the Targaryens for me, if I'm being honest. Targaryens have always been on and off with their fertility, so, not hard to believe that they just never got any more than 2 kids out of the decades of marriage.

Definitely if Aenys and Maegor are bastard, that would be ruining the entire story of the dynasty once again. I never believed that the Targaryens are bastards. Rhaenys loved Aegon, she had many artist around, but doesnt mean she will sleep with them. Visenya was loyal, and would never ever cheated due to her morals. And using magic well... but you still need a man to get pregnant, otherwise Maegor would be conceived without a father xD which is absurd.

He was indecisive, and that's bad, but he was very decisive against the people in his family that could have wiped the floor with his opposition. Maegor would have had a field day relieving the siege on his nephew, burning whoever opposed the targaryens, and Aenys could have easily kept him content as lord of dragonston and hand of the king for his all life since Maegor never had children.

The bastard theory hinges on the assumption that Rhaenys & Visenya were not only stupid, uncaring of their position as the last dragonlords, disregarding of their political situation, and okay with endangering the whole of humanity bc they wouldn't get moontea (Or were scared of Aegon which is laughable, like PLEASE, Visenya cut his throat in seconds, he would be dead if she wanted him to be).
It takes some basic reasoning to realize this and that rumors of unproven infidelity tend to come from enemies. Considering the kind of misogynistic culture Westeros has, OF COURSE they would say this about 2 independent powerful women in their own right who were the only reason Aegon was able to even think he could conquer the continent.
GRRM makes his plot twists based on themes and choices, he would never be so shallow as to make that sort of decision for a throw away irony

Your adult heir needs a rideable dragon, especially if his wife already has one. 4. Roast religious fanatics who insult and defy you. Start with nearest to furthest and you would probably never have to burn down the Starry Sept in Oldtown.

Aenys could see how after so long Maegor's marriage to Cersye was childless but didn't cared at all. Sure, they can just have one of their sons marry a noblewoman to secure alliances but again, they have two sons. They can just have one of them marry his sister and the other marry a noblewoman.
What Im trying to say is that Visenya couldve impregnanted herself with magic again to give Aegon a daughter.

I hate to say this as a woman and a mother of sons, but Maegor was his Mother's Son. And Aegon let that shit happen. It was Aegon who couldn't make his mind up and follow through; it was Aegon who left it to Aenys to figure out. It was Visenya who was always really in charge. EDIT I'm saying-if Aegon raised his son, and Visenya raised her son...it's just maths, this was about the Hightowers and what THEY wanted, for themselves, not Aenys or Targaryen marriage, etc. The way it reads, the Targaryen's had a deal, in place, with the Hightowers BEFORE the invasion/conquering of Westeros.

Because the text doesn't actually support Aerys being Aegon's. Words Targaryen men and maesters say are the only thing that backs it and words are wind.
Came from Valyria with 5 dragons. Of the 5, just Balerion is left at conquest. Meraxes, born sometime shortly before or after the Doom, around a century before the conquest. Vhagar, about 5 decades before the conquest.
They aren't thriving. Absolutely nothing says they are doing well before the conquest. They are literally scrambling to fix the issue of no dragons hatching. They are dying. "The blood must remain pure" when there used to be other Valyrians to marry. Not siblings marrying for over a century with a couple of Valeryons thrown in.
It's not a magic spell of conquering westeros that gives Aegon babies. It's a sperm donor and finally for the first time in over 5 decades a new dragon has hatched while Rhaenys is pregnant with Aenys. His half Massey half Valeryon wife Alyssa give us a mini boom with their kids and a major boom with their grandkids.
More dragons just between Aenys & his kids than the Targaryens have had since Aegon and his sisters were born. And by the next generation, the Targaryens have more dragons than we have ever known them to have being "pure." New blood. Yes, the grandkids come from siblings, but their parents both brought new blood. Look at who has claimed Balerion. He's only the illusion of power.
Aegon messed up too. Like Viserys, Aerea, and Maegor. His mess up takes longer to see. It wasn't hoarding the power and ruling over Westeros. They were supposed to rebuild a better Valyria. Marry into the Seven Kingdoms & spread the protection from the long night. Eggs still need to be regulated. Too much fire is just as deadly as no fire. BUT they were supposed to branch off and fix the problems of old Valyria.
