Jimmy Chongo timeliness, reach of audience, the fact that it did not reflect her life and she was aware of that, and the political impact on either side.

It's interesting how no one ever hears about songs being plagiarized in terms of lyrics. It's always the beat/instrumentation which gets musicians in trouble.

Is ANYTHING original anymore? In today's society, we're exposed to anything and everything online. TH-cam itself streams so many videos a day that no one could possibly watch them all in a lifetime. Add to that other visual, textual and lyrical online sources such as Reddit, Instagram, Worldstarhiphop, Snapchat, and thousands of other sources and unless you're just plain lucky, you're exposed to everything without even realizing it for years, decades even later.I wonder if ANYTHING is original anymore? Can it or will anything ever be a truly original thought or action anymore?
There's inspiration and there's copying. There's a difference. The late, great Prince was obviously inspired by people like Jimmy Hendrix and Elvis Presley but turned that inspiration into his own sound.
Semantics, my good friend, the only difference between inspired by an plagiarizing, as it seems to me, is that one acknowledges another's work and the other doesn't. I could write "Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth on this nation a Great Depression." (By the way, 87 years ago was 1929). But if I don't say that Abraham Lincoln said this, I'm a plagiarizer, if I did, I was inspired by him.Like I said before, nothing is original anymore and I'm sure that people even copy Prince's stuff and pass it off as their own. Yes, I'm cynical but these times are cynical as well.
dragonweyr44 Hmm Perhaps. But you say "nothing is original ANYMORE". Let's run with that. What makes today different from yesterday? I believe everyone was inspired by someone or something, so if we're calling it "semantics", nothing is original and never was since the very first thing, right? Prince was inspired by Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix was inspired by someone, and so on and so forth. Therefore, by that logic NO THING is original. I think you can hear inspirations of others in my work yet it's mine, no?
I don't know what, if anything, can truly be called original anymore. Like with Vanilla Ice's "Ice, ice baby" being "sampled from Queen's "Under Pressure", If Ice changed the tempo of the beat from Queen for his opening riff, how original is it? Likewise, how much of Prince's music is truly his own and how much of it is from Jimi Hendrix? I don't know where to draw the line between the two. Do you? What can truly be called original, inspired by or plagiarized? I can't see the difference anymore. If you can, please let me know.(Also, please give my original comment a "Like" if you feel it is worth one. If not, it's no big deal.)
Lmao as if Beyoncé actually even suggested the concept for that video. We all know that all she is is a mouthpiece; she doesn't come up with anything, she just sings.
#4 really boggled my eyes; how can a musician's family (and a famous artist like Marvin Gaye's at that) not know what sampling a song means? Please. They should tell the truth: they were broke, tried that route and had a stroke of luck that it worked. 👎
Beyoncé is ALWAYS “inspired” by other choreographers work. It’s one thing to be inspired by the style and some signature moves of a choreographer, it’s another thing to straight up lift an entire work and add more weird gyrations to “make it your own inspired by someone else” (hello “Single Ladies” and “Getting Bodied”).
Am not surprised on all those people on this list. Beyoncé stole many dances from many. Like the video (single ladies) she plagiarized that french choreographer wife's dances. also Ciara's love sex and magic all video edits. She should have been number one.
I'd say when you take almost an entire melody, try to make it different by lazily adding literally one extra note to it, then laying your vocal on top of it, on top of not crediting the original source, that's plagiarism.
10. She felt uncomfortable. 9. She dances so flawlessly. 8. Oof really? 7. She did? I'm a bit shocked 6. Seriously Wikipedia? 😂😂 5. 5 pages?! He ain't that discreet. 4. I hated the song and the video. 3. Oh yeah South Park 😂😂 2. Really? 🙄 1. Oof poor guy
My hubby didn’t know that Led Zeppelin’s “Boogie With Stu”is Ritchie Valens’ “Ooh! My Head” until I told him after I heard Boogie With Stu on the radio for the first time. I had heard the original in the La Bamba movie as a teen. They are pretty close to the exact same. And they were sued over it. lol
Seems like you don't know the difference. Plagiarism acts are rarely taken legally seriously, hence why some don't bother. ( MOST in fact. ) --- Because people like you discredit their anger and make it seem like they're just mad for no reason. if it weren't PLAGIARISM, courts would not find them guilty and the public would not shame them. If someone were taking credit and money for work you did for months and you lost out on those months of payment you'd be pissed.
Beyoncé's Countdown is clearly homage to 60-80s pop culture. There's not only recreation of De Keersmaeker's work but also Funny Face (as mentioned in the video), Flashdance, The Supremes, Modesty Blaise among others, that's the entire point of the music video lol
have to admit i am not sure what is or can be said to be plagiarized. every word has been written every note played, 1,000,000 monkeys 1,000,000 typewriters and all that. i don't understand opinions being plagiarized, for example... i think people who are upset with the status quo should show it peacefully .. should gandhi's offspring sue me for that .. or does jesus want accolades from both gandhi and me. "call me joe" does look like it was "avatar" but as the reality of immersion in gaming arose these types of story's came out because the ideas are not that far from reality. Think of films and series with similar ideas ..sword art online, arcade, the matrix, tron, surrogates, chappie ect. you cold argue it is a force of will from one to another like films such as the host and fallen. yes its a shitty thing to steal an idea, but when we punish the people who move the idea forward or retell it in a different way can we just have a tag with the things that are close to the story. what do people think of as copies? Are all films with aliens in it a copy of some cave painting with a man pointing to the sky. "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." Isaac Newton A nod to source material, then a nod to similar material that you are unaware of but had since been made aware of, and let the public check out them all:) when their is money at stake then i feel that when their is just a blatant copy it should be acted on.. but as i said i am not sure, i should write a book, unless it has already been written:)
How is the Wasteland plagiarised?? There is a thing called literary allusion and intertextuality, quite different and distinct from plagiarism, where everyone recognises the source and it is a way of honouring the source
Any respected musicologist will tell you that despite the somewhat similar sound, Blurred Lines is not plagiarous. That's not what the court did, though - the entire decision hinged on the jury's verdict, with not a single musicologist in sight. But that's Marvin Gaye's family for you - ridiculously litigous
Considering Pharrell Williams admitted to plagiarizing it subconsciously once Robin said he wasn't even involved on it and napped and when he woke up it was done? I think that screwed them. :P
iTeacupPanda I thought he just said he wanted to write a track in a Marvin Gaye style. Writing a song in a particular style does not constitute plagiarism
x1StapleGun Yeah I thought I read what you said - not Pharrell admitting plagiarism. But maybe I'm wrong - it was a while ago anyway. I listened to both songs though, and no matter how many times I listened to it I heard very few similarities overall. I don't even have a music degree and I could tell that. But doesn't Gaye's family sue fairly often? I feel like I've read about them suing various artists occasionally.
I can imagine it’s frustrating to hear another comedian say what u’ve already said in the past, or something similar, but is it completely impossible that MAYBE 2 people who think in a sarcastic judgmentally funny way for a living MIGHT think the same way about a topic at some point?
Beyonce took Parris Goebels choregraphy for 711 too, though it may be Beyonce's personal choreographers fault, its a shame that alot of dancers choreo get stolen with no credit, dance is an art form, just as much as singing is. instagram.com/p/7STqrpiWcu/
Shia LeBouef joining people freestyling and then straight up rapping A SONG is the most amazing thing ever. The fact no one there realized is probably the very reason he chose a song from 96 lol. Anyone know if it was a popular song? Or even sorta? Bc I swear I feel like I've heard that song before, and I was only like 10 in 96 so I prob wouldn't have heard a song like that unless it was really popular. I could be confusing it w another song, if it wasn't... which makes it even funnier.
i hate when people say beyonce has no idea of whats happening with the plagiarism accusations, i will say her silence says it all shes never talked about it or acknowledged it aka she steals and gets aeay with it bc shes "beyonce"
Marvin Gaye's family is just money hungry going after every musician that sounds somewhat similar. That don't care that it sounds similar they only care because there are millions of dollars involved.
Erryn Doxey Yes, but greedy or not, their father's legacy includes the royalties from his works, so every musician that plagiarises his works is essential giving his so called "money hungry" family just cause to sue. Plus you can tell me those stealing musicians that aren't giving him credit actually care for or about honoring his legacy. Or that they aren't also money hungry.
The speech by Melania is ridiculous, seriously those were clichés' when Michelle said them. "You work hard for want you want in life, that your word is your bond, and you do what you say you're gonna do", I mean who hasn't heard that a thousand times before? That's just how petty the Left is, that a similar sentiment is now plagiarism, even though that sentiment's been around since the dawn of civilization, and Melania used completely different phrases to express a "similar" sentiment.
PinballWaluigi64 it's funny because the Chiffons didn't care that it was "plagiarized" only their company did. The Chiffons even went on to cover My Sweet Lord so that people would know they weren't hurt by it.
Listen to He's So Fine by the Chiffons, then listen to My Sweet Lord by George Harrison. Basically the Chiffons record company sued George for copyright/plagiarism in terms of the music.
I make music and it's quite hard to know whether you created the melody of a tune, or whether it sounds good because you heard it somewhere before. Apparently Paul McCartney had a similar problem when writing "yesterday"
Haters: "Beyoncé is just a puppet, every decision is made for her" Same haters: "omg thiefyonce strikes again she steals everything" So she either doesn't have any choice in her career or she does and just steals everything. Haters need to make up their minds
Guess what. My parents also impressed upon me the importance of hard work.... Good Lord people. These are common phrases and something that every kid should be able to say about their own parents. Now get back to work, numb nuts!
Oh, Shia! Lol still love u, bro. Editing this to add the following: Let he who has not been caught in a plagiarized freestyle trap throw the first stone.
James Cameron is notorious for stealing complete film Concepts and stories from other writers. Terminator is a direct rip-off from two sources: Michael Crichton's 'Westworld', and Phillip K Dick's, 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep: Blade Runner'. Yul Brynner's portrayal of the Gunslinger in Westworld is the architect for The Terminator.
***** Cameron can claim whatever you wants, but The Terminator is a direct rip-off of two properties, Michael Crichton's: Westworld, and Phillip K. Dick's, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep: Blade Runner.
***** Citation? That would be the actual screenplay and short story by Michael Crichton for Westworld, and the actual book by Phillip K . Dick, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep! Here's the thing about plagiarism they never admit to it. Why do you think James Cameron has been taken to court several times for intellectual property rights? Only a fool would try to deny the Gunslinger from Westworld and the Terminator are not identical.... because they are!
***** Okay, I understand. But try to find the original Westworld. It was made in 1973, it was even directed by Michael Crichton, and is the first movie to ever use the term "computer virus" one of the first movies to ever touch on the subject of artificial intelligence.
only reason anyone cares is because he saw good shit and made it better. Made toooooons of money and now people want a piece... but they cant have it so they push harder. to look for more plagiarism where there is none. So they make shit up or start seeing remote connections as 100% rip off. please....

Although I suppose WatchMojo deserves credit where it's due for mentioning MLK at all considering he's become a mythical saintly figure in the modern age and people like to sweep under the rug and ignore his extremely unsavory personal character (drug use, infidelity, plagiarism, hiring/physically abusing prostitutes, potential ties to the KGB during the height of the cold war etc.).
Jimmy Chongo timeliness, reach of audience, the fact that it did not reflect her life and she was aware of that, and the political impact on either side.
I think it was blown way out of proportion by the mainstream media throwing a temper tantrum as they so often do these days.
We're at that point in life where everything that you think of has been thought of has been either done, thought of or thinking of it.
where's amy schumer for stealing louis ck jokes too
Not just him -- bunches of people.
She’s a hack
I don't even think Melania knows that many words
Ana Fernandez u are prob absolutely correct!!!
She speaks 5 languages fluently moron.
Where's the proof?
Melania’s speech was different, f*#k do you think most sh*t isn’t copied 😤😤
Ana Fernandez, she speaks several languages. How many languages do YOU speak (your own choice of words is very simple).
Beyonce should have her own list, she is the queen bee of copy-ing.
Joseph Fuller even your comment is a copy of someone else so you deserve a spot on this list , unfortunately you’re not relevant enough to even make the list lol
Beyonce is just a singer, not an icon. Don't forget Bob Fosse's Mexican Breakfast routine which she completely ripped off for her Single Ladies video.
bluebird actually she is an icon, but I agree that people can have their ups and downs with their originality and unoriginality.
bluebird
*THE GREAT MICHAEL JACKSON ALSO PLAGIARIZED BOB FOSSE . I LEARNED THAT LAST YEAR .*
😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
How did she ripped it off when she told everyone her video was inspired by Bob fosse? Please tell.
Jasmyn Holland she only admitted it, once she was called out about it. 😒🙄
Another interesting one is 'If I were a boy', which clearly proves she is just a singer. Never does she say that it's not her song at all. As in many cases, she takes older tunes/songs that are less known to the public, probably pays them something, and then claims they are her own. She shows her silicon ass while singing the song, and the job is done.
Beyoncé can have her own top 10 plagiarized moments.
Ouch. Yes.
U can have one too for this plagiarized comment
WatchMojo.com stole my trademark of posting things every 12 seconds!!
I'm so mad, i can't wait 12 seconds!
Who even does that?
Disgraceful.
There's room for just one spammer here, WatchMojo.com.
AND IT'S NOT THE SPAMMER WHO'S NOT ME!
It's interesting how no one ever hears about songs being plagiarized in terms of lyrics. It's always the beat/instrumentation which gets musicians in trouble.
You forgot the biggest one of them, Jennifer Lopez.
Ain't seen an ugly "Jennifer" yet But they do plagarize I guess
Literally her whole career
I love that y'all threw in part of the "Creepy Uncle Joe Biden" clip where he's whispering and smooching on the girl lol
I'll never be able to get that bit of weirdness out of my head when someone mentions him 😂 haha
Beyonce Only Should Be on the List
Any normal person:"Wow, that looks almost like what I did some time ago." Any American:"Hey, that looks a little bit like what I did some time ago. I want money, let's get a lawyer, I'm damaged, life is unfair, I demand 10 million dollar."
If not, it's no big deal.)
dragonweyr44 Because you gave constructive rebuttal, I'll "like". lol
damn I guess Lady GaGa copying Madonna's "Express Yourself" was #11?
It actually made a different top 10 list.
2:00 I was litterly eating a kit kat and was like, "bish no! My kit kat" xD
Lmao as if Beyoncé actually even suggested the concept for that video. We all know that all she is is a mouthpiece; she doesn't come up with anything, she just sings.
Kati e and steals
Not what vocal producer who actually work with her say.. but stay mad Katie. Whatever helps you sleep at night 💤
#4 really boggled my eyes; how can a musician's family (and a famous artist like Marvin Gaye's at that) not know what sampling a song means? Please. They should tell the truth: they were broke, tried that route and had a stroke of luck that it worked. 👎
So basically, Shia Labouf is really good at memorizing random shit lol
Beyoncé bites all the time, but not for nothin this has been proven already by lots of celebs.when you have money you can make things go away folks
More money, less problems
Dammit Timmy, Helen Keller isn't supposed to talk.....and now I'm dying laughing 😂😂😂
YES, I saw that scene from Countdown, and instantly clicked this video, lol, used to be my favorite Beyoncé song.
Ikr! That song was totally awesome!
MizzReyRey Yeah, I know.
Beyoncé is ALWAYS “inspired” by other choreographers work. It’s one thing to be inspired by the style and some signature moves of a choreographer, it’s another thing to straight up lift an entire work and add more weird gyrations to “make it your own inspired by someone else” (hello “Single Ladies” and “Getting Bodied”).
oh Beyonce....
WOW GREAT VIDEO
Avatar also ripped off Ferngully
An article I wrote in college was blatantly plagiarized with no acknowledgement or permission.
So frustrating!
Am not surprised on all those people on this list. Beyoncé stole many dances from many. Like the video (single ladies) she plagiarized that french choreographer wife's dances. also Ciara's love sex and magic all video edits. She should have been number one.
Sahiry Gnobehi They can make a top 10 based only on her
popmans9999 yep.
What about when John Fogarty was accused of plagiarizing himself. Now that was effin' priceless!
Where was Vanilla Ice ripping off Under Pressure
thats sampling not plagiarism
I'd say when you take almost an entire melody, try to make it different by lazily adding literally one extra note to it, then laying your vocal on top of it, on top of not crediting the original source, that's plagiarism.
+Michael Jordan no he added one note and argued in court that it was a different beat....lost
Michael Jordan he didn't get permission from queen to sample the riff though.
Emo Otaku They got permission to sample therefore no plagarism
10. She felt uncomfortable.
9. She dances so flawlessly.
8. Oof really?
7. She did? I'm a bit shocked
6. Seriously Wikipedia? 😂😂
5. 5 pages?! He ain't that discreet.
4. I hated the song and the video.
3. Oh yeah South Park 😂😂
2. Really? 🙄
1. Oof poor guy
No one cares how early you are
+Alfred Alfred HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA
daaaaaaaaaaaammmnnn
THANK YOU! THE INTERNET NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU!
Last!
There's no such thing as plagiarism. You can't own an idea therefore it cannot be stolen.
And they were sued over it. lol
Led Zeppelins entire recorded output?
Who cares I just enjoy swing Robert Plant in his prime wearing very tight jeans.
There is a BIG difference between plagiarism and inspiration. It seems like alot of people still don't know the difference . 😐😒
Who didn't the Beach Boys steal from? lol
But the Beatles stole Back in the USSR from them
How is copying a dance move 'plagiarism'? Are dance moves now copyrightable or something?
Can't believe you forgot Vanilla Ice
Brendan Davison they probably got permission to sample. There's a difference
Beyoncé's Countdown is clearly homage to 60-80s pop culture. There's not only recreation of De Keersmaeker's work but also Funny Face (as mentioned in the video), Flashdance, The Supremes, Modesty Blaise among others, that's the entire point of the music video lol
Always Beyoncé 😂
Hahahahha yeah
There are a finite number of new ideas. Sometimes you think up an amazing idea and then find out that someone's already done it.
EVERY BEYONCE SONG
Beyoncé been copying Shakira since 2002
question: does beyonce+beyonce=beytwice?
yes
Lies
Riya Ghadhi what do u know?
Dane Cook: Why Would I Steal jokes from you?
Louis CK" Bc they were funny jokes!!!
I love Louis...
have to admit i am not sure what is or can be said to be plagiarized. every word has been written every note played, 1,000,000 monkeys 1,000,000 typewriters and all that.
i don't understand opinions being plagiarized, for example... i think people who are upset with the status quo should show it peacefully .. should gandhi's offspring sue me for that .. or does jesus want accolades from both gandhi and me.
"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." Isaac Newton
A nod to source material, then a nod to similar material that you are unaware of but had since been made aware of, and let the public check out them all:) when their is money at stake then i feel that when their is just a blatant copy it should be acted on..
but as i said i am not sure, i should write a book, unless it has already been written:)
There are only a handful of stories really, and Shakespeare wrote them all ;)
You could actually come up with hundreds of lists on this very same topic! It's an endless thing!
How is the Wasteland plagiarised?? There is a thing called literary allusion and intertextuality, quite different and distinct from plagiarism, where everyone recognises the source and it is a way of honouring the source
In fact, Eliot himself furnished a bibliography and notes to go with the poem!
Pallavi Sanyal I appreciate you saying this. I was so shocked to see it on this list. They obviously don't do any real research.
Pallavi Sa
4:05 "Damnit Timmy! Helen Keller isn't supposed to talk!"
Kimberly Haines Yeah - Marvin Gaye's extended family are notoriously litigious
I agree musicologists should make determination with plagiarism but Gaye's family should not reflect on Marvin Gaye himself.
I can imagine it’s frustrating to hear another comedian say what u’ve already said in the past, or something similar, but is it completely impossible that MAYBE 2 people who think in a sarcastic judgmentally funny way for a living MIGHT think the same way about a topic at some point?
What about Stairway to Heaven and Taurus
May I share this to my classmates for my presentation? Thank you!
Aaron Roberts The list of her stealings is infamous. For her non-stans.
Even a blind girl plagiarizes 😹
Give her a break...she didn't have the internet back then!!!
i hate when people say beyonce has no idea of whats happening with the plagiarism accusations, i will say her silence says it all shes never talked about it or acknowledged it aka she steals and gets aeay with it bc shes "beyonce"
Mavin Gaye's family should just settle with Pharell Williams already. He own version was so successful and popular.
Marvin Gaye's family is just money hungry going after every musician that sounds somewhat similar. That don't care that it sounds similar they only care because there are millions of dollars involved.
Actually Marvin has been shot by his father fort a money issue. The plagiarism is real but they are °poor° people as We can see from the clip.
Stefano Brosca exactly they are just going after whatever money they can, because they are greedy, they don't care about their fathers legacy at all.
I just listened to it, and it does not sound the same to me at all!
"your word is your bond, you do what you say you are going to do" - "my parents instilled in me that you work hard in life" how are they the same?
The speech by Melania is ridiculous, seriously those were clichés' when Michelle said them. "You work hard for want you want in life, that your word is your bond, and you do what you say you're gonna do", I mean who hasn't heard that a thousand times before? That's just how petty the Left is, that a similar sentiment is now plagiarism, even though that sentiment's been around since the dawn of civilization, and Melania used completely different phrases to express a "similar" sentiment.
Thiefyoncé can fill this entire list.
The Chuck Berry one lol The Beach Boys really tried it 😂
George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" incident was pretty big.
Albeit, it isn't entirely confirmed whether he actually plagiarized or not.
PinballWaluigi64 it's funny because the Chiffons didn't care that it was "plagiarized" only their company did. The Chiffons even went on to cover My Sweet Lord so that people would know they weren't hurt by it.
Hey! I saw this, and I am a huge Beatles fan. What is this situation? I really want to know.
Listen to He's So Fine by the Chiffons, then listen to My Sweet Lord by George Harrison. Basically the Chiffons record company sued George for copyright/plagiarism in terms of the music.
It was ruled as a subconscious plagiarism somehow.
“This Thicke v Gaye issue...” 😂
I knew they'd mention Melania Trump!
I make music and it's quite hard to know whether you created the melody of a tune, or whether it sounds good because you heard it somewhere before. Apparently Paul McCartney had a similar problem when writing "yesterday"
Timbaland ripping off some unknown Finnish producer should be on here. The rest of that Nelly Furtado album though was excellent.
Haters: "Beyoncé is just a puppet, every decision is made for her"
Same haters: "omg thiefyonce strikes again she steals everything"
So she either doesn't have any choice in her career or she does and just steals everything. Haters need to make up their minds
THIEFYONCE
So you're telling me somebody that was deaf AND blind was accused of plagiarism??
Guess what. My parents also impressed upon me the importance of hard work.... Good Lord people. These are common phrases and something that every kid should be able to say about their own parents. Now get back to work, numb nuts!
I really like this channel, I don't know why.
Man, they ALL surprise me, but The Beach Boys made my jaw drop! That sucks.
soo is Mathew Santoro on here?
het leve Matthew Santoro alone, no body is perfect. fuck
He's a TH-cam celeb..
;-(
yes WatchMojo plagiarized him
lol. I unsubbed after that.
They tried to go after amber for being horrible, but he was being a thief.
*_Who's the blonde in pink at_* 7:50 ?
When are we going to talk about WatchMojos plagiarism?
Oh, Shia! Lol still love u, bro. Editing this to add the following: Let he who has not been caught in a plagiarized freestyle trap throw the first stone.
🗿
So they make shit up or start seeing remote connections as 100% rip off. please....
Star-Lord Made it better? Camron simply copied and pasted someone else's ideas.
My life is a joke, and I dont need anybody stealing it. If you're not gonna live my pain or suffering then you cant have my comedy.
This must have been made before Amy Schumer started her rounds - she's a big fan of borrowing other performers jokes... and then making them worse... just so much worse.
How about half of On Directions songs?
