    Due to Loma moving up to 135, he became more aggressive (due to the reach disadvantage?), and so I forgot that he could be this stick and move, pure boxer.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Calling Loma a “Hype job” is ridiculous. Was he “overrated” by some at one point in time? I’d say yes since I never thought he was #1 p4p and that’s where some put Loma. With that said, Loma is one of the best skilled fighters in the world and it’s undeniable. It’s impossible for a 3 division unified Champion to be a “hype job”. Loma clearly lived up to the “hype”. I think a lot of these people are just mad they put Loma at #1 and promoted him over others. The rest don’t understand boxing.

    Lomachenko is great at making the opp fight on his terms. They bite on all the feints and even if they don't it's all useful info. Lopez did some great work in there against Loma. I'd love to see a rematch but Loma kind of dug his own hole in that situation.

    New to this channel and don’t know why you aren’t at 100k subs for real this is really good work.
    I now understand the check mate in boxing or the lose lose scenario that people like Crawford and Loma put guys in.
    1. Loma feints and if guy reacts Loma takes superior angle
    2. If guy does not react he can be hit
    Conclusion: lose lose situation *
    * guy could maybe punch or do similar things like what teo did but this over simplification makes it easy to understand how good guys like Loma are from the mental side of the game.
    I wonder what are some other similar type lose lose scenarios are in boxing from guys like bud that I can try implementing into sparring.
    I was getting too caught up trying to slip the opponents offense then hitting the angles, this video has opened my eyes to a whole different side of the game.
    ThAnk you really

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love to hear that fam 💪🏾. Are you an orthodox or southpaw fighter?

    • @bobbyCruiser
      @bobbyCruiser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoxingGems yea of course!
      Orthodox. Wish I was southpaw even though when I wrestled I did with r leg forward. Been working on my defense in southpaw for a year now. People can throw a punch in opposite stance but don't understand they lack the defensive understanding/iq that they have on their main stance i.e. danny jacobs switches to southpaw and GGG throws simple overhand and that jab hand of Danny doesn't come back to protect the chin - simple stuff.
      Being that I mostly will fight orthodox opponents, getting to their weak side seems like it will require jab feints, hook feints, right back foot step out, etc. Basically any movement that throws my left shoulder forward and gets a reaction.
      but Im thinking I can also go towards their strong hand but stay defensively responsible.
      When loma fought russel and other southpaws I saw less of the angled attacks - more focus on defensive responsibility, constantly stepping in direction of weak hand before and after combos, hand traps, hi to low - basically everything else in his arsenal except the constant angling/moving to his right since its a closed fight.
      I also realize its not just check mate with 1. feint, 2. I angle around but that theirs also the punches that have been loaded into the hips as a consequence of the feint or punch. In this scenario not only do you have the probing punches to draw reactions but you can come back with other shots such as a hook or uppercut when coming back to your stance.. 3 bad scenarios for the opponent. I like it.
      I also train beginner boxers so this will put my coaching at another level. thanks for the clarity this brought I feel like I just learned boxing again and I been doin it off and on 15 yrs. and if you read all this youre a beast! much respect.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea, Loma doesn’t angle as much vs southpaws. But when he does it’s the “back step shuffle” or back foot forward step-then hop pivot around to the weak side. He usually hides it behind a back hand cross that he will keep outstretched for “control” of the guard/lead hand. Front step shuffles in the open stance are way more common. Loma just adds the “hop pivot” on the end to be set in stance at the new angle. But he usually hides that with a “controlling” or probing jab.
      Mayweather/Gatti is a good fight to study for closed stance angles. Although Gatti was more vulnerable because he was using a version of the Philly shell, Mayweather lead with the cross and let momentum carry him into a pivot to the weak side. That was my first video on this channel. I’ll link it. It was a very wide pivot and took a degree of athleticism but depending on what guard your opponent is using it could be effective. Of course their are shifts you can safely use if your opponent is shelling up and is no threat to attack as well.
      I read every comment fam 😉! Much love! 💪🏾
      th-cam.com/video/ThY28Cc_Ls0/w-d-xo.html

    • @bobbyCruiser
      @bobbyCruiser 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoxingGems interesting so in both stances he is still using the cross but in a slightly different way.
      I studied this attack because as an orthodox fighter you'll mainly face orthodox, which is sorta the equivalent of loma fighting russel or rigo. And I noticed loma contantly moving to the weak side before and after combos, and Ive been doing that in practice against other closed stance scenarios.
      I usually do the back leg shuffle and hop when i have someone on the ropes but now that i know how to time these movements from your video ill be trying it more often followed by some lefts and maybe a right over the shoulder!
      I was trying to think of punches that would move the opponent such as the jab high or low then feint it but the right seems even better because the control. anything to get a reaction. you could also use some roberto duran tactics with the hand even if it doesn't land.
      Can you see going towards the opponents strong side? is there any benefit? Basically doing the front side shuffle
      lol that video is what got me to this channel in the first place because i youtubed "how to beat the philly" lol. its funny Floyd showed people how to beat himself or at least a game plan that could work better by doing it to gatti. I showed it to a few people including my coach and he was like this is a good breakdown keep watching lol.
      Thank you !

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pleasure fam! As far as taking the strong side angle, you can do anything in boxing as long as you understand the risks involved and the likely counters. So for me, it depends on your opponents guard. If they have a bladed guard it’s a lot more risky as it’s less likely to control or occupy the back hand due to its distance from you. But if the opponent is squared in stance at the moment or his shoulders are squared because he’s in the high guard and shelling up, the back hand is the same relative distance to you as the lead hand and you can safely control/occupy/probe the back hand and shuffle/pivot/shift to either strong or weak side angles.

    Aiight back from Vegas family!
    Watched this all over again, I actually ran into Bill Haney in traffic my last night there, dropped my window n hollered at him. We chopped it up for a good maybe 2 minutes before the light turn red. Cool brother. Seeing as Haney might fight Loma in the future I'm checking this out again. This time looking at Loma's Ring IQ.
    Loma had complete ring generalship in the fight. He gained information and created 2 separate plans based on whether or not dude reacted to the head-slot change/level dip. So either way the guy was getting punished. Exactly what happened.
    The ops ring IQ wasn't that high, likely average at best. (10x better than the majority of us non-fighters)
    The only way he could've changed this was to establish his own offense. He never could.
    It looked like he was fighting a counter punchers (CP) fight- without having any elite level CP skill/talent/tools.
    So Loma just walked all over him.
    A fighter can either have a great performance or a great win. (aka just beat an elite opponent)
    For Loma this was a great performance.

    I said it would be easier to enjoy Loma's career and what he brought to the sport, after he loss again.
    I mean jeez, [they] propped him up so high and tried to brainwash the sport.
    [They] said he was better than Floyd (lmao) and Ali (lmao).
    [They] were calling Loma the greatest to ever do it.
    And *the rest of us with common sense, and an understanding of American demographics-* all knew why.
    Now that he's gone silent, and soundingly gotten beaten (AGAIN) by someone Floyd would've been called a cherrypicker for fighting...

      Fam you got the knowledge. I know you can see what is missing or lacking out of Loma’s game that Mayweather is a master of. Loma’s losses are reflections of his limitations.
