    I have had the joy and honor to have performed in this heavenly music 6 times, 3 at Carnegie Hall. It is always moving and emotional. I visited Mahler's home in Klagensfort, Austria and still feel the vibes. If you don't know Mahler, it's not too late to enrich your life with his music.

      Marco. You have great taste in Music. I am a choral/opera singer for 42 years in New York City. Still, exciting performance opportunities are open to me, thank the lord. Try listening to Sir Karl Jenkins - Cantata Memoria For The Children. It's on TH-cam.

      @LeftRight Dear sir.
      Like many I have heard Wagner. Wagner although beautiful, would never be in the same league as Mahler, Mendelssohn. Definitely not Tchaikovsky. The former two Jewish one of them personally attacked by Wagner (and as a coward he was, he waited until he died to try and destroy his reputation, although he was his "friend", as usual with Germans considering him inferior).
      I believe therefore that, the negative comments about Wagner therefore should never be silenced. It is justice that is served to what he did. To be a horrid human being (with some intellectual prowess but a lot of stupidity and hostility), means his music doesn't have as much appeal. It is only normal!

    • @MrPat9514
      @MrPat9514 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @LeftRight I don't think I'm wrong. There were composers that showed similar style to Wagner.
      And even though he was influencial for what came after, what came after was much better. Again, can't compare Mahler to Wagner. Different league altogether.
      And I did not disregard Wagner. He was a genius by all means. But a horrible being. Therefore his music automatically in my eyes and to many seizes to be interesting.
      It's like if Hitler would make a successful beautiful composition. I would not be able to listen it and many would agree with me. Some others though would like to hear his music and remember him by it. This could be you...

    I am a Christian, but I do think that this is music as close to whatever idea we have of "heaven" anyone might have, and NO OTHER COMPOSER came CLOSE to this portrayal of "heaven", "paradise", "Nirvana", or Whatever you may call it, this music is IT!

    For those of us who experience Mahler almost viscerally it is difficult to explain the experience. Mahler forces us to confront ourselves despite ourselves. His music has been with me for 40 years and I hope to leave this world listening to this, the Chorus Mysticus.

  • @crazyorganist1609

    My favourite version. The organ as Mahler wanted it like that

    • @paulybarr
      @paulybarr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree- it's the only recording in which the organ really makes such a profound impact, but unfortunately that is only due to the fact that they recorded the organ separately elsewhere ( there was no such instrument in the old Sofiensaal, Vienna, where the orchestra and soloists were recorded) and dubbed it over the recording in post- production, meaning the engineers were able to give it huge, if artificial, weight. Mahler would indeed have loved it, but he couldn't have imagined it being possible.

    • @crazyorganist1609
      @crazyorganist1609 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@paulybarr it does. Being an organist myself (professionally trained) I often follow his organ instructions on the score. The organ is so powerful and thunders in the chorus mysticus as it should

      Solti's recordings of Mahler with Decca's superb engineering bring extraordinary vitality to the music. I recently read a general review of Mahler 8 recordings and the critic said he hated this version - which I thought was ridiculous and insulting to the rest of us. I recommend Solti's recording of the 7th with the CSO.

Please remember that that title correctly belongs to J S Bach - founder of our western concept and understanding of harmony. But....taken in its correct period of late Romantic/20th century western - YOU ARE RIGHT!
