    Hi Nigel, and greetings from Durban, South Africa ....again. I have just finished your video on re-potting this tree in 2015, and going through the comments section, saw that it had contracted rust. At one stage you mentioned that you were not so sure that it would survive at all. It really pleases my heart that five years later, I am able to see the recovered tree with all that vigour and new growth ---- nature is indeed wondrous, and proves that we should never give give up on an ailing tree or plant. With loving care and attention, they will surely survive........

    That bittersweet nightshade brings back memories from my teens (12-14y?) when I started my interest for plants and trees in general.
    I brought one into our home and placed it with a climbing aid against a wall. It grew fantastic and even my mother thought the purple flowers and red berries were quite decorative.
    Usually it died back after the winter in Sweden but not always, so gradually it had a more permanent branching. I pruned it but just to keep it clean.
    I look forward to follow that plant with a special interest and also with a bit of nostalgia :D

    Hi Nigel!! 👋😎👋 Great video, always such good trees that you are bringing along nicely! And such a variety.
    Regarding your ant problem on your apple tree, you might want to use a mixture of cinnamon in water. It works great to disrupt ant trails, and if you can find where they are entering, it can stop them from coming in. I figure if the cinnamon water can do that in the house, it would also work to get rid of the ants in your tree.
    I always love watching and listening to you, I love how you explain what you are doing and the why of it also. Thank you so much!!! 👍🙃👍
    God bless Nigel and have a great week!!

    Hi Nigel, first of al i am a big fan and i al Binckwatching all of it video's in this quarantaine. I was asking myself when, where and how do i make my first cut on a Seedling. I know that i should let it grow the first year, then rootprune and repot when the buds are swollen. So when where and how do i make my first "trunk Chop" to make an interesting trunk and not just a straight seedling. Greetings from Belgium

    in the most hetero way possible, i find your videos very relaxing and easy to fall asleep to. and i gain knowledge for my bonsai. i think my plott hound likes your work too lol. question: in boston MA, 10 hrs from you, do i need a greenhouse for hibiscus, bourganvillea, crown of thorns, azalea, etc. or in the winter time can i use south facing window and get them through to summer?? i dont want to waste my time or money if not, it gets confusing when you have the tropicals outside, in greenhouse, different times of year, etc. thanks. - tom

    So glad to see that you were able to save this apple tree. It is looking good. Yes, you definitely have a bald cypress tree. Those are flowers on the Princess Earrings. • @farmert9679

    With the rust spots on the leaves of the apple tree, what about defoliating the tree, making sure that the leaves do not hit the soil to hide the spores of the disease. That way it is still early in the season and the leaves have a chance have to re-grow. No spores in the soil then that would spread from watering that would cause the spores splashing back up on the leaves.

    It's not the white cedar or the western redcedar but the eastern red cedar also commonly referred to as Virginia Juniper. This actually makes sense since it is likely that the original host was Juniperus sinensis which is a verry common tree in China where apples oriniated. It is likely that the fungus responsible for this desease came over to America on that tree it's also posible that it did come over on apples but was able to use the native juniper as a host as it it closely related.

      I think its a very little butterfly that even survives in winter and they crawl under the trunk to survive and they feed from the leaves and leave round black and brown little circles on them , if you use permethrin insecticide, dimilin pesticide it would cure it.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TSC used to carry another brand of oil dry and it had a much finer particle size. Much of it was sifted away and used as garden soil additive. They switched brands and the new SafetySorb was much better, less waste and a more grey colour than brown. Both were 100 percent fullers earth. I am just lucky they carry this brand and it works well!

    Aquarists have a similar problem of transferring disease on their tools. They solve it by keeping a container of disinfectant solution, usually diluted bleach, near their tanks and dip their tools in it after using them in one tank and before using them in the next.

    To sterilize my tools for bonsai I use Rubbing Alcohol. Dip tools into it an then let them air dry. If needed right away, dip and wipe dry. If worried, then after the Alcohol dip, rinse with water and wipe dry. Works for me. Just a suggestion.
