Originally I had said no to this Challenge, bit seeing you do it, I think I might've changed my mind. Granted, I'd get to the 12 hour mark and I'd start writing things like 'He ran his head through his hair.'
I've developed a weird sort of routine when watching your videos: I'll watch for a few minutes, develop an insuppressible need to write, then get bored and/or stuck and go back to the video. This is definitely a horrible way to write, but an excellent way to watch TH-cam.
Bahah I do the same! I tell myself that I'm using TH-cam as a "reward" for hitting certain word/page count goals...but then I definitely just watch more youtube. And then I realize what I'm doing and start writing again...until I'm ready for another break bahaha.
Oooh I love popcorn too! (And almonds, I just almost never think of them. They're the type of nut that I randomly crave and then don't for months and then randomly crave again hahaha.)
HOW DARE YOU have a 47 minute video and make me wait 10 minutes to see Duke. That is just plain RUDE! :P You did so great. Somehow you always manage to pull through on these giant experiments and it's just some of the best footage to watch. Especially around hour 30 where you just start to fall apart. I think I just proclaimed to enjoy when you're in pain. That's not what I was going for, but it is quality entertainment. Also, let's talk about the fact that you wrote MORE THAN HALF of my entire goal for July in 36 hours. You are a Goddess. WE ARE NOT WORTHY.
Great job on completing this monster of a write-a-thon. 12000 plus words for that time period is an worthy accomplishment. You are not crazy because with enough caffeine anything is possible.
I saw the length and was like heck yeah. But also you mentioned liking ghosts so you’ll like this. I’m interested in writing paranormal stuff so I contacted a paranormal investigation group in my area to ask questions and see if I could tag along on an investigation. They’re so nice and answered all my questions and like seriously helped my research. If they have the room they might let me tag along on one of the investigations. So if you want to do it, a lot of paranormal investigators will let you join for a hunt or pay like 15$ to come along. Also if you do that it would be a sick video.
I love it when you do these types of videos, Kate, it’s fun watching someone else suffer while attempting to do the impossible lol. Duke is so cute, and your home is lovely 😊 You’re amazing and hilarious. Also a 47 minute video isn’t long enough, Kate, ha, we need more Kate Cavanaugh 😂
I just discovered you, yesterday I watched your 24-hour write-a-thon, now I’m watching this. Needless to say, you motivated me to get through this madness myself :’D Maybe I start with 6 hours... then 12... then 24 and then this during the summer 🤔
I watched/listened to this video whilst doing my calculus homework. Made it so much more bearable. (Still have more problems though 😩) As for your question: I think it’s easier to do the 24 in 36 because you do have a little bit of lei way (is that how you spell it?) to take breaks, sleep, etc.
Inspirational stuff Kate. I imagine the marathon/half marathon training analogies apply. My thinking is, use the 24 in 36 as a weekly long run [long write] stint. Also in the way you do sprints & then transition stints [randomized Pomodoro] to adjust to the longer [Pomodoro] intervals? So much to cogitate. Good times. May your creative reservoir be in the perpetual path of the deluge!
I wish I could have done the live sprints with you! But I was at work the whole time the sprints were happening, and I'm guessing writing at work is generally discouraged...
Yes I want a 12 hour write A- thon! I wish I could be in your cabin, it would motivate me so much more lol. Plus on the first 4 days of July I’m on vacation!!!!
It is currently 4:57 AM (Started at 1 AM) and I am slowly fading away, but being a Gryffindor, I will not give up, and finish this challenge! Current word count: 636.....slowly....fading....
I ended up only doing the first day, but it was really fun! I got over 6k words in a single day and I’m really proud of myself! I almost feel like the break to sleep and stuff was almost detrimental because I was planning on doing the full thing, but when I woke up for day 2, I wasn't able to get any substantial words even though I knew exactly what I wanted to do. But anyway, thanks for the challenge! I feel a lot more prepared for my 24 hour write a thon now
I did this and it helped me to finish outlining my novel which I've wanted to do for FOREVER. I needed the extra push of this challenge happening and knowing that I was doing it with other people. Now I'm like addicted to my story. I spend all of my spare time on it. I wrote almost 2,000 words today and the challenge is over!
You know, something I'm realizing about this is that I'm more of a distance person than a time person. So like, had I known I would "only" get 13,000 words (bahaha), I would have just attempted to write that much as quickly as possible rather than pacing myself. I AM curious to try to do that and see if I can actually write it any faster than this 36 hour period, but I I think I'll give myself a break for now bahaha.
Ooh this was fun to watch! I would do a 12 hour write a thon or 2 during this July camp nano as long as they're on weekends. Though my goal is time based (31 hours), so a 12 hour write a thon would already be close to half of my time goal O.O I could see myself doing one towards the end if I end up falling behind
They're both on the weekends! :) July 6th and July 13th. And saaaaame! I'm super curious how my time-based goal is going to work with a 12-hour write-a-thon bahaha. I have a feeling I'll take some full breaks so maaaaaybe? I'll end up with like 10 hours instead of 12? I really don't know yet either!
For the side character love story, you could write in hints of their romance in your current story, and then write another (short)story focusing on them. That way, it means that the two stories take place in the same world while allowing you to focus on two separate rate love stories in full detail. After watching so many of your videos, I have become tempted to try Nanowrimo. But because I'm a student, I don't think writing in November will be possible, so camp would be my only option. I'm so out of practice and would have to be a rebel writer, so at least for this year, I plan on writing for the month of July on my own so I can gauge my progress and plan for the following year.
I’m not usually a fan of longer videos in general but I watched every second of this one. Honestly after watching you go through that I’m so hype to do it myself.
Awww, thank you so much! It was definitely ~an experience~ hahah and I do think it ended up being so worth it!! (This time, at least haha.) Totally give it a try and let me know how it goes!!!
I tried using a sleep mask for a while. The problem I had is when I moved my head on the pillow, it would touch my eyelids sometimes and I found I couldn’t get used to that. Eventually, I just gave it up as a failed experiment...LOL!
I love this video, but seeing you struggle and write for sooo long makes me want to nap ; d I can't believe how much you wrote in this time span. Thank you for the video!
Hey Kate - just wanted to thank you! I found your videos recently and you’ve inspired me to take the plunge and get writing again! I just signed up for my first Camp NaNoWriMo and I’m super excited! Also very much looking forward to this super long vlog!✨
AWW YAYAYAY! That's incredible! I'm so excited to hear how Camp NaNoWriMo goes for you. Is your goal based in words/pages or hours/minutes?? And thank you so much! :)
Kate Cavanaugh I’m super excited to see how yours goes too! My goal is based on words, I’ll be working on a project I’ve got going at the moment (currently on 12,000 words) aiming to add 50,000 words throughout the month!
Hey there! I wanted to say I am really happy that I found your channel. You really motivate me to write and it's fun to see you surviving through a challenge like this. ;) Thank you for your awesome videos!
I would have started in the morning myself. It felt like you made it artificially harder for yourself. But awesome job on your dedication. Now I need to try and finish my outline for my story. I know I need it 😋 to make sure I know where the story is going. And I haven’t finished any writing project yet so I know I need to. 😝
I am so impressed! Do you think all the other challenges like writing like Nora Roberts have strengthened your discipline? Remember back then when one day of distraction free writing was tough?
I love watching your videos because a) so entertaining! but also because b) it gives me ideas for more ways I can film myself typing 😂that was so creative pointing the camera at the word count!
Hi Kate! I'm new to your channel but I just want to say I love your energy, and your videos have a lot of personality which I like. So thank you for being a creator!
I watched/listened to this video whilst doing my calculus homework. Made it so much more bearable. (Still have more problems though 😩) As for you question: I think it’s easier to do the 24 in 36 because you do have a little bit of lei way (is that how you spell it?) to take breaks, sleep, etc.
I can’t do write-a-thon cos I just need sleep that much 😂 I think I like the podomoro (I think that’s how it’s spelt?) method that you did recently more. It seems to work more for me and how my brain works. Loved the vlog. Always love your writing vlogs :)
I just finished listening to the Sarah Dessen episode and I LOVED IT! Listening to her talk made me think about potentially going from NA to YA on one of my WIPs. 88 Cups of Tea is always so motivating :) And this vlog was so motivating! I may try it next week to kick-start nano. (Also, are you using Passion Planner for your tracking sheets?)
I am hoping to attempt this in July...I have two smallish children and they will be visiting Grandparents for a week...hopefully I will be able to get some major writing accomplished when I only have to worry about my fur baby...he tends to be less work than the human children. Congratulations on the beast mode writing, you are truly impressive...if not a little crazy (totally respect the crazy so I hope you don’t take offense, it is an oddly weird compliment I promise). Have a wonderful day/night, and don’t forget to smile.
Girl, that was amazing. I wonder if I would have been able to do it during Camp if I'd found this video before July 31 🤣🤣🤣 Actually, can I do it at all? I... I dunno. I'll have to think about that one. Also, what was the chart you used to record your word count each hour? I might want to try that, or a variation of it, just to see what my best times to write are.
Hey, I'm trying to complete this challenge today. I've done 2 24hr write-a-thon before but this is going to be intense. Inspired by you I've decided to vlog it for my channel too. Hoping to bet my best word count at 13,143 in 24hrs. Big fan of your channel and vlogs. 😀
I always use my eye mask in the summer, there is sun almost all night long during the summer months😄 In contrast we have no sun in the winter so...lose/lose?🤔😂
I joined the live that day was my first one, i thought it was great exited to join more in the future. I also think both optilns 24 hr or 24/36 would affect my creativity after, possibly not. Guess I wont know unless i try haha
Ive also found that writing in a journal helps, i do online study so its nice to be creative without a screen. Not sure yet about how typing it up will go :)
Kate, you are a beast! There is no way I'd be able to pull this off. Do you have any suggestions for writing podcasts to listen to? I love how long this was as well :)
OOooh do I! Check out: The Creative Penn 88 Cups of Tea Writing Excuses The Self Publishing Show Pub(crawl) Podcast Some of those are tradpub focused, some are self pub, all involve just the art of writing. And thanks so much. :)
I was going to join in but the 24th was my daughters bday so I didn't write at all. I also didn't vote because I wanted to join but couldn't. And I dont think you're crazy.
I could never do a 24 hr write a thon, but I've done a 12 hour. I would be down to do that again, though once I hit the 8 hr mark my brain is usually done. I might join in when your cabin does it. July is a busy month for me because it's Birthday month, so I need to get as many words as possible;e when I can.
It's insane to see how much you can write without your brain completely shutting down. I'm not a published author yet but I write for 0.5 to 1.5 hours on 5 to 6 days per week. I write 300-400 words a day on average. This is more than enough. I don't do Zero Drafts and if I write faster I get sloppy and whatever time I make rushing I later lose on additional revisioning.
Haha yeah. I did a sprint challenge a week ago and managed to get a good 10,000 words. I wonder how much I’ll get if I sprint for eight hours. It gives me time to walk both of my dogs and give myself a brain break when I’ve had a migraine on and off for two days.
Maybe you could try focusing hard for 15 minutes, then relaxing your brain for 15, then focus, then relax. That was you get both 30 minutes of work and 30 minutes of down time every hour. You could prep your meals ahead of time and design mini-exercise bursts to go in your 15 minute breaks.
Write whenever you can. Sometimes, instead of writing for a few hours and getting a lot of words in a bunch of time, writing a few sentences when you can has worked for me. Those few words over the course of the day make it much easier for me to complete a big section later on. they really add up :) hope this helps, good luck!
I think this will be more manageable than the 50,000 in 10 days writing challenge 😅 I WAS gonna try 90,000 in 18 days (bad idea...) but it failed. So I'm gonna try this write-a-thon, and see how I do 😊
Yes I sleep with an eye mask I sleep with an eye mask so I have a less chance of getting migraines from the bright lights that shine through in my room in the morning
Me: I could never do this.
Also me: *enjoys every second of the madness*
Originally I had said no to this Challenge, bit seeing you do it, I think I might've changed my mind. Granted, I'd get to the 12 hour mark and I'd start writing things like 'He ran his head through his hair.'
STAAAAAHP. 😂 My poor mind was fully goo at that last hour during the write-in bahaha. Also YES give it a try!
That is a line that I’ve actually written
I think it's bad that I didn't see the mistake at first and I had to read it 3 times to understand.
i realize it's quite off topic but do anyone know of a good website to stream new movies online?
@Ira Memphis i use FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
I've developed a weird sort of routine when watching your videos: I'll watch for a few minutes, develop an insuppressible need to write, then get bored and/or stuck and go back to the video. This is definitely a horrible way to write, but an excellent way to watch TH-cam.

I love that you put yourself through all this madness, so that we don’t have to.
Bahaha I AM HERE FOR Y'ALL! 😂💙
47 minuets!?!? YES! Gonna get some snacks.
Ahhhh I'm so glad! I tried to get it lower but the madness was just TOO MUCH bahaha. (Also what are your favorite snacks??)
@@KateCavanaugh ooooh! Hard one. I love snacking on almonds (if I'm feeling healthy) or popcorn. I usually don't snack on anything sweet.
Oooh I love popcorn too! (And almonds, I just almost never think of them. They're the type of nut that I randomly crave and then don't for months and then randomly crave again hahaha.)
I watched ALL OF THIS! I really do think you're some kind of new species of writer who tackles ALL THE GOALS! I'm so proud of you!
HOW DARE YOU have a 47 minute video and make me wait 10 minutes to see Duke. That is just plain RUDE! :P

This is just what I needed right now, and 47 minutes?!?! HELL YES!!
AHHHH YAYAYAY I'm glad it's not too much!
I just discovered you, yesterday I watched your 24-hour write-a-thon, now I’m watching this. Needless to say, you motivated me to get through this madness myself :’D
Maybe I start with 6 hours... then 12... then 24 and then this during the summer 🤔
Definitely will attempt a 12 hour writeathon in the future, though I doubt the quality will hold for me. LoL
I votes yes on your poll but totally chickened out ahah, I am now planning a 12 hour writing day though thanks to this video 😂
is anybody else watching this when they should be writing and planning their novel?
I watched/listened to this video whilst doing my calculus homework. Made it so much more bearable. (Still have more problems though 😩)
As for your question: I think it’s easier to do the 24 in 36 because you do have a little bit of lei way (is that how you spell it?) to take breaks, sleep, etc.
I did this and I was a mess. Also I get asmr everytime you do the time lapse with the typing in the background XD

May your creative reservoir be in the perpetual path of the deluge!
I wish I could have done the live sprints with you! But I was at work the whole time the sprints were happening, and I'm guessing writing at work is generally discouraged...
Bahaha generally! I remember trying to sneak in writing time during my lunch at the office without being seen. 😂
Aww, Billie made it into the vlog!
Yes I want a 12 hour write A- thon! I wish I could be in your cabin, it would motivate me so much more lol. Plus on the first 4 days of July I’m on vacation!!!!
Am I crazy for wanting to do a 24 hr write-a-thon for the first day of Camp NaNo?! 😂 Loved this vlog, it's so motivating (and funny) 💚💚💚
OMG DOOOO IT! (I mean, yes. The answer is yes, you definitely are. But it's a great kind of crazy! Hahaha.) And thanks so much. :)
Kate Cavanaugh 😂😂 I've written into the diary, it's happening *sobs*
Ooo it would be cool to do it the first AND last day of nano/camp nano
It is currently 4:57 AM (Started at 1 AM) and I am slowly fading away, but being a Gryffindor, I will not give up, and finish this challenge! Current word count: 636.....slowly....fading....
Did you finish? I almost faded away too but managed to succeed, bahaha. Also, hello fellow Gryffindor!
That cloud timelapse was awesome! As was the rest of the vlog lol
I can't do marathon anything: writing, reading, etc. I think they are great for people who like that sort of thing, but I'm not one of them.
You know, something I'm realizing about this is that I'm more of a distance person than a time person. I FREAKIN LOVE A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE! Monty is one of my top 10 favorite characters.
It was so good!! I really enjoyed his story omg, such a strong voice!
I loved this video! Part of my wishes you could do this again for July haha.
Ooh this was fun to watch! I would do a 12 hour write a thon or 2 during this July camp nano as long as they're on weekends.
This is MADNESS and yet you did so well!!
I'm glad you were able to recover so quickly and also able to give us 47 minutes of content! Yessssss
The clouds definitely do look cool!
BAHAHAHA RIGHT. Still don't know what they're called, but they were fun.
I tried using a sleep mask for a while. The problem I had is when I moved my head on the pillow, it would touch my eyelids sometimes and I found I couldn’t get used to that. Eventually, I just gave it up as a failed experiment...LOL!
Wow you look like you've nearly cracked the formula for this madness to work! Loving the fun 'scene changes' that you're working into your videos :)
Thank you! :) And yesssss, I think I might have! At least for some of these 12-hour write-a-thons haha. I'm not sure about the 24-hour straight ones!
I love this video, but seeing you struggle and write for sooo long makes me want to nap ; d I can't believe how much you wrote in this time span. Thank you for the video!

I’m heading down to San Antonio this weekend do you have any good food recommendations
Oh yeah, starting fresh off from a scene break....A challenge, that is!
I always use my eye mask in the summer, there is sun almost all night long during the summer months😄
In contrast we have no sun in the winter so...lose/lose?🤔😂
I just blooming love your videos.
EEEEE THANK YOU LAUREN! :)
We'll still have to chat Love Island sometime bahaha.
@@KateCavanaugh Omg don't get me started. Casa Amor!!!!! Who's your fave couple? hhahaha
Could you at some point explain the colouring system you use???
I joined the live that day was my first one, i thought it was great exited to join more in the future. I also think both optilns 24 hr or 24/36 would affect my creativity after, possibly not. Guess I wont know unless i try haha
Ive also found that writing in a journal helps, i do online study so its nice to be creative without a screen. Not sure yet about how typing it up will go :)
Kate, you are a beast! There is no way I'd be able to pull this off. Do you have any suggestions for writing podcasts to listen to? I love how long this was as well :)
OOooh do I! Check out:
The Creative Penn
88 Cups of Tea
Writing Excuses
The Self Publishing Show
Pub(crawl) Podcast
Some of those are tradpub focused, some are self pub, all involve just the art of writing.
And thanks so much. :)
@@KateCavanaugh Thank you for all the suggestions! Can't wait! Good luck with Camp in July :)
I was going to join in but the 24th was my daughters bday so I didn't write at all. I also didn't vote because I wanted to join but couldn't. And I dont think you're crazy.
Awww, happy belated birthday to your daughter!! And thank you. I definitely started to feel like I was during part of this challenge haha.
Quality pupperoni footage!
YESSSS ALL THE PUPPERONI! 🐶 Duke is now a featured character in these vlogs, I'm realizing hahaha.
Lol... I should be writing. I only have around 18k left in my MS. HOWEVER, instead--of course--I opted to watch you write instead 😅
Wish I could have done this with you! Was so busy when it happened:(
Also, lets go ghost hunting together!
I want to do something like this during the week but work got in the way. Lol. I want to take baby steps and try eight hours first.
Oooh yes! 8 hours is a great goal (and would probably be better for the usual post-write-a-thon hangover!).
Haha yeah. I did a sprint challenge a week ago and managed to get a good 10,000 words. I wonder how much I’ll get if I sprint for eight hours. It gives me time to walk both of my dogs and give myself a brain break when I’ve had a migraine on and off for two days.
Your videos are sooo inspiring
Ahhhh, thanks so much Makayla! :)
Monday, in edition to camp nano, I'm starting school at snhu for creative writing.
WOWOW! You have so many exciting things coming up. :)
What pens do you use I have been looking for a good fine liner
Maybe you could try focusing hard for 15 minutes, then relaxing your brain for 15, then focus, then relax. That was you get both 30 minutes of work and 30 minutes of down time every hour.
You could prep your meals ahead of time and design mini-exercise bursts to go in your 15 minute breaks.
I think I might attempt one of these during my 2nd camp nanowromo. Any useful tips? I failed my 1st try.
Write whenever you can. Sometimes, instead of writing for a few hours and getting a lot of words in a bunch of time, writing a few sentences when you can has worked for me. Those few words over the course of the day make it much easier for me to complete a big section later on. they really add up :) hope this helps, good luck!
@@MartinMartin-ho2zi I guess if I wrote just 100 words 5 times a day, I'd easily reach 15000. That's close to my goal of 20000!
@хелена Me too, goodluck!
What worksheet are you using to track your hours?
I think this will be more manageable than the 50,000 in 10 days writing challenge 😅 I WAS gonna try 90,000 in 18 days (bad idea...) but it failed. So I'm gonna try this write-a-thon, and see how I do 😊
Almost 50 minutes? Time for Danish Butter Cookies :)
37:46 : me watching Kate watching Jessica

How do you make your word tracker charts?
I got my new laptop last week
Yes I sleep with an eye mask I sleep with an eye mask so I have a less chance of getting migraines from the bright lights that shine through in my room in the morning
Wait what....you dont need to go inside for a mobile order?! OMG my life has changed!!!
RIIIIIIGHT! I use it when it's raining, there's no line, or if I also want to order a water! It's the best.
MY NAME IS ROSE?! OMG YAY!
Should I write today, or, should I watch other people write?
