- India's culture and political concept is based on pluralism and diversity. Hinduism and Islam have been two major religions. The talk presents how Hindus and Muslims lived here in amity and how they fought together fro freedom of the country from British colonial power. It cites instances from kingdoms and popular culture to show the syncretism of Indian society with an appeal to strengthen this amity for the sake of peace and progess. Ram Puniyani, former Professor IIT Mumbai, is a writer activist, working on the issues related to preservation of democratic, plural values in the society. He has been focusing on the threats of sectarian politics in the name of religion and the threat posed by the imperialist aggressions for the lust of oil. Has written, Communal Politics: Facts versus Myths; (SAGE) Contours of Hindu Rashtra (KALPAZ); Second Assassination of Gandhi (Media House); Deconstructing Terrorist Violence (Sage) Caste and Communalism (Olive) Indian Nationalism versus Hindu Nationalism among others. Has been part of Peoples tribunal on communalism and issues related to violence. Conducts workshops on Communal harmony and national integration. Regular articles on issues of communalism and terrorism Recipient of Indira Gandhi National Integration Award (2006), National Communal Harmony Award (2007) and Mukundan C. But the muslims really came to India for wealth and power..only after they attained wealth and power did they focus on religion.
Like any immigrant going to other regions their move was motivated by wealth..
Muslims ruled India for close to 800 years if they wanted to destroy Hinduism and were willing to use absolute force they would have been able to achieve this in 100 years...but still after 800 years of Muslim rule in North India only 30% of south Asia is muslim, majority close to 70% of south Asia is Hindu. This is proof that Muslim kings were not much interested in changing the culture of india. They were there for wealth...

We need more indians like him
I think in the 21st century, religious organisations should voluntarily move away from politics and start investing on science that furthers spirituality and peaceful existance. For example, hindu temples could use their funds and assets on promoting social justice, environmental sustainability, wild life protection or commercial production of lab grown meat. How about investing on psychology and mental health?
These are the things of future, and if hinduism is to lead humans into an enlightened existance, it must be proactive. Leave politics for politicians and technocrats. Invest on science for an enlightened future.
Idea is noble but it's feasible only if all religions agree to do so. If you ask only Hindus to do so, it's not gonna happen. But I support this idea.
