    Good to see the old office again! And the loungeroom! And the dog! And Mark!
    Fun for all the family 😁

    I can't wait for the algorithm to grab your channel and make it explode. You deserve so many more subscriber with the content you make.

    • @bzuidgeest
      @bzuidgeest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every fan says that of every channel. It's not going to happen.

    • @stoojinator
      @stoojinator 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bzuidgeest It's happened to a lot of channels. Which is amazing when you look at some of the shit channels that have 10+M subscribers.
      I've followed a heap of TH-camrs who've risen from 2 or 3 thousand subs to over 500K+. It can happen.

    • @bzuidgeest
      @bzuidgeest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stoojinator there is a reason those shit channels have so many subscribers, and it has nothing to do with quality. Most, not ask of them are run by professional companies and sell stuff and or are very dumb. No brain required sensational.
      This channel is none of those things and that is good. But he is no rmc has no professional team behind him. Again that's not bad. But those other channels don't grow because of the algorithm, they grow because they are businesses not hobbies.
      By hey there is always the exception that proves the rule. I suggest you pray for it. But i suspect that when you look back in a few years you will be disappointed.

    Remember to add an extra button for hot key enable, and maybe a couple more for l2 and r2

    Impeccable timing as I will soon be building a Raspberry Pi 4 based machine to do the same thing as yours. I've had my Pi just sitting on a shelf for a while without a clue as to what to do with it. Not trying to spoil the surprise, but my machine will be a bit more portable... >.>

    I watched this with keen interest mate :) Great video. You have convinced me that I too should go to Jaycar and buy.....a Pandoras Box because I'm lazy 🤣

    Ta, Picked up one last year in the 50% off sale, seemed too good to be true at that price. 50 bucks and i'm today finally getting off my bottom and installing an older raspberry pi 3B+ I have lying around into it...will see how that goes, then whack a Pi 5 in if everyone loves it

    I've been tempted by these things at Jaycar a number of times, but I couldn't find any reviews on them. Thanks for the heads up on the GPIO connection. I'll be interested to know how you go with modding to USB.

    Why don’t you try to plug in the 40 pin connector into a Commodore 64 mainboard? It should fit! ;-)

    I'm interested in one of these for my pi4 but they seem to be sold in australia only.. and everyone is out of stock. Maybe discontinued?

    I use a cheap Arduino clone pretending to be an Xbox360 controller to interface my arcade stick to USB. It has a couple of advantages over the Zero delay boards - firstly it will work with games on PC that only support XInput devices, secondly it's customisable - I have input combinations to set different speeds of rapidfire, different speeds of autowaggle, etc.

    • @stoojinator
      @stoojinator 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. Those GPIO switches are a dog. When we made our machine, we started with them, and they sucked. Moved to the USB adaptor and BANG! Just like it should be.

    • @MrLurchsThings
      @MrLurchsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stoojinator good to know. Did you just use the generic usb boards you can find everywhere?

    • @stoojinator
      @stoojinator 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrLurchsThings I'll have a look back through my emails and see if I can find where we got them from. But I'm pretty sure they were the generic controllers. They were pretty cheap I do remember that much! I think I might have got them from Element 3. I was buying a bit of Raspberry Pi stuff from them at one stage.

    Bit late to the party but regarding the gpio lag. I noticed the same issue but if you go into the command line with F4 and type gpionext set combo_delay 0 and reset the pi this fixed the lag issue

    I built one last year but instead of a Pi I used a Pandora's Box board. I think I spent a total of 100 bucks for my build.

  • @bzuidgeest
    @bzuidgeest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So it's basically a Pandora box without the Pandora. It's a nice project, but my advice would be to buy a Pandora. Most likely cheaper in the end.

    • @MrLurchsThings
      @MrLurchsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems Pandoras got for ~$200-250AU. This was $100AU

    • @bzuidgeest
      @bzuidgeest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrLurchsThings the box is cheaper. But You still have to add the pi , SD card and likely some other things. You might have had them, but you audience may have to buy it all. So for a proper comparison the price of your route will get higher. And that is not even including upgrades, the Pandora would not need. The Pandora is play ready out of the box.

    • @MrLurchsThings
      @MrLurchsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got some upgrade plans for it already. Maybe after than I’ll drop a pandora board in it for the sake of checking it out.

    • @bzuidgeest
      @bzuidgeest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrLurchsThings yes you said so at the end of the video (upgrades). I mentioned it because of you are going to compare build cost, you really should take into account all components added, not just the price of the box itself.

    • @MrLurchsThings
      @MrLurchsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bzuidgeest fine then. Deck: $99, Pi4: (for me free, but) currently $67AU from Core Electronics, SD Card: $20 (depending where you buy it and how big you want/need). Total: $186AU.

    Jaycar are ok for convenience and the reasons you mention. But I see a LOT of the same stuff you get on AliExpress (with hefty markup). It's always a test for how stingy I can be.

    • @MrLurchsThings
      @MrLurchsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. But for me its generally worth it for a) convenience, and b) having a brick-and-mortar store to go back to. I'm pretty much on a first name basis with my local store :D
