    I've owned this car for about 2 years. It has an official range of 114 miles but I have actually driven it 134 miles and still had 18% battery remaining. On the other extreme, on an extremely cold day -14°F (-25°C) I only got 85 miles. So the range really depends on speed and temperature.
    I have a 90 mile commute to/back from work and this car is just about perfect. I charge with a level 2 charger at home. This is not a car you take on a trip, it would suck for that purpose, but for a daily driver I can't think of many other cars that would be better. I have never felt range anxiety with this car, because I use it for its intended purpose.

    The real question here is, would you trust a review from someone who closes a frameless car door by pushing on the top corner of the window..... Amateur hour.

    I’ve had a Tesla for 2 years and one of these , a green and gold one, for almost 6 months as well. They are extremely comparable as you say, but we never take the mini on road trips, that’s what the Model 3 is for.
    The missing bit is in your comments is displayed in your faces - you can’t drive the mini without glee all over your face. The Tesla is a great driving car but is not in the same class for FUN.
    Here in NZ we have a charging network, so range anxiety is not a thing, the network was designed for 60-100km Leafs, so easily matches the mini range, plus, the charge speed on 50kW chargers is fantastic, absolutely blasting past the Tesla which always slows well below its spec, but you never tried a 50kW charger.
    I live on a very curvy multi-bay seaside road, with some very sharp corners at 70km/hr, so have plenty of opportunity to enjoy it within the city.

    My partner has the SE for about a year now. It is a real fun drive for sure!Range anxiety I agree with and was more skeptical of it at the start, but there are chargers out there to use you just need to find and more being added, in saying that it will depend on where you are going. ChargeFox or Evie stations are worth looking at via their apps. We recently went on a 180km (each way) trip and yes had to stop charge along way but was easy to find a station on this occasion. Was cheap to charge and smaller battery also means it charges up to 100% faster, many don’t think about that. Plus good time to get out and stretch legs.
    We certainly are going to consider more longer trips with the EV even if we have to stop more especially given the fuel prices and my main car being a V6.

    We live in Texas and have no issue with range anxiety. We are about to take a 600 mile trip in it. We may be crazy for that, but plan your route and stops. Not everyone needs or can afford a Tesla.

    • @cadriver2570
      @cadriver2570 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same. Doesn’t sound like they tested it. And comparing this to the TM3 is just silly. As Texas residents we likely got this for around $20-24k after incentives. The Tesla is 2-2.5x the price, and not as fun.

    I just picked one up here in the USA, quite a different story price-wise, after the government incentive, I paid $22500, which is half the price of a Tesla, and since this is the 2nd car for me and looking at the current gas prices, a no brainer. But agreed, not as your primary car. I use it as a commuter car and it's perfect for that.

  • @natehanying54

    I only bought a Mini because there are no Tesla sold in my country except refurbished ones from Japan imported by local dealer. Plus it was on sale and cheap due to zero tax on EV cars.
    Basically I can get almost 2 SE for a price of one Mini Cooper S 2.0 in my country lol

    Well EVERY EV pretty much is mated to the owners driving needs. ANd this , in most instances should be the 2nd or 3rd car. And have a gas car for long distances. I drive 50 miles round trip to work and can 11 charge at work- never a range problem for me. But thats MY needs. If you have to drive this as your only car- dont- get something else. And I love the BMW "kit" This is a very complete car as far as features- not having Android Auto though is a draw back. I believe if this got 175 mile range- it would be in the top 3 EV's on the market- cuz of the absolute joy to drive. Ive driven a Tesla- fast off the line (so is this) and gains pace quickly- but its heavy and ultimately is just another car. The Mini is a Mini- its like a car that you name like a pet. LOL Its powerful and adorable at the same time.

    I know it’s a year on and the would be many more chargers now as there definitely is many chargers in that area. I feel you should add a note to show you were only using a single phase cable as if you had a three phase cable you would have made it to 90% in that hour.

      Not entirely true. Where I live this car costs about the same as a Toyota with the government’s incentives. Plus you don’t need to pay gas for this car and gas prices are crazy high nowadays. The range is something that might bother me even tho I drive 100km/day max.

    Maybe now Australia is taking its head out of its arse and giving some thought to sustainability there will be a few chargers. In the UK, where we’ve got plenty (and in fairness much smaller distances between places) this works great as an EV replacement for a fun car like an MX5, Fiesta ST etc.

    As much as there cool little cars, I really don't understand why any ev is sold in Australia with such a small range, bar being a pure city driver(which why even have a car at that point) unless it's got a super fast charge which these clearly don't that range anxiety is just atrocious

    • @CarSauce
      @CarSauce  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think it may come down to availability of cars too… there’s a market for this car - but it’s small!

    • @wzDH106
      @wzDH106 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it accepts the same 50kW as the North American model, then it's pretty quick. 50 kW DC fast charging isn't fast by today standards, but rapid enough considering the small pack of the SE. While DC fast charging is 20-30 minutes, it's still a robust second car, or daily driver... nothing more.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      " I really don't understand why any ev is sold in Australia with such a small range" Surely to make it light enough that it still drives like a Mini Cooper S? The kerb weight is 1365kg which is excellent (only 100kg more than the ICE Mini Cooper S automatic). There is no way it would handle as well if it weighed 1565kg, which is more akin to the weight of most small hatchback EVs, and it certainly wouldn't handle in line with the expectations set by the ICE Cooper S.
