  • Part 12 building a 4x4 mini articulating tractor. I’m using all Subaru drive train and a 420cc 12HP Predator engine to move this 4wd machine. In this video I start on ROPs, build a roof, make a tool box holder and mount a ammo box.
I use my Crossfire CNC plasma table quite a bit on this truck build, If you are interested in more info on these tables check out the link down below in the description.

I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 and try to watch every video you put out, I do always watch to the end. Why not you've taken the time to make these vehicles to help yourself around your land and to show others how to make them themselves as well as for our enjoyment. All of this costs money and more especially your time, time where you could do more or see more of your family. WELL DONE MIKE don't give in to them.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I would have given you more but had to leave room for others. Lol.

Mike, remember that family comes first in life than what ever it takes to have food, shelter ect. You make the videos when you want and we will continue to watch. This project has been great and I am looking forward to the next chapter in it. If you need to take a break from TH-cam for a while do so. We will be here when you return.

Thank you Logan 👍 I enjoy putting in a little drum break in the videos, it started as a one time think, but I get requests for more so I try to add In a small break in each articulating truck video. Take care

Hey mike! Just want to say don’t get bummed, I feel your pain with the limited time. Keep doing your amazing build videos I love the longer length. I bet if you just did a weekly or maybe even twice a week super simple cut of the projects being driven around that would be awesome for us viewers and your channel! Something you could film in 1 hr and just splice they clips together and upload. I’d love to to see a tour of the property and watch your tractors and bike rip around!

I've really enjoyed how in depth you've gone, especially throughout this series. I know a lot of people I subscribe to have Patreon or the option to join their channel and get exclusive content that way, so that might be sometime to consider. Either way I've loved the series and can't wait for the rest of the finishing touches.

Keep doing what you're doing don't chase the algorithm. I love your projects. Have you considered patreon? Just an idea. In the meantime take it easy don't burn out. Another great video and know that I watch till the end. One thing though, put family first. Videos can be made at any time and loyal fans like me will wait until the next one however long it takes. One day though your kids will be grown up and you will look back wondering where the time went.

Wait, you are telling me you got an excavator and didn't make a video about it? I want to see more of it, hopefully that is in your pipeline! 🤞 I love me some digging videos.
Regarding your question, the 25min gone by so quickly. I was surprised the video already ended.
Personally, I watch your videos because of your skills, your personality and because I like the insights into your lifestyle. You seem to live in the nature and do a lot of stuff yourself instead of relying on others. That's what I love. That's what I click instantly. Reviews about welders/machines don't interest me that much personally - plus the stuff you review is mostly not available in my region.
Just my insights into things and why I watch and like your channel.

Please don't change your format. The way you are set up is why I watch videos like this. Screw the 10 to 15 min format, the people who stop watching your videos aren't really watching for the content. When I found your channel I binged watched everything in a day... keep up the great work. People like you and DonnDIY are inspiring.

  • @bensonboys6609

I absolutely love your channel! You make real quality content! Sure, others get more views and are better promoted because they engineer their videos to get views and to get watched all the way through. However, their videos lack soul. They cut key details so that they get watched all the way through. It would be a shame if you tried to follow their approach. You really show the nitty gritty and your thought process behind your builds which I greatly appreciate. That’s one of the main reasons why I watch your channel. I think you’re reading too far into TH-cam analytics and trying to use it to get a sense of what people think of your channel. Sure, some people will only watch 17% of your video, that’s TH-cam. My advice would be to not look too far into TH-cam analytics. I don’t think they accurately reflect what people actually think of your videos. Keep doing what you love! That’s what draws people to your channel. People see your passion and it becomes their passion. While watching this video, I thought that this is something I want to do when I’m a little older. If you want to slow down production, that’s up to you, it’s your life. So far, we have been privileged to have had you share your knowledge/projects/accomplishments with us and we hope you will continue to do so in the future! Thank you so much! Cheers!

    Mike,
I have followed this series since the first part and it’s incredible. Your meticulous attention to detail is right on and I’ve learned a lot from you.
I have thought before what’s even more impressive than your fabrication skills, is your talent behind a camera. Not many have what it takes to make it on TH-cam, I’m sure it’s not easy. All while working & balancing a family!
I certainly appreciate the time, effort and talent it takes to do what you do. I would be immensely upset to see your videos change. With that said, no reasonable person could blame you if you decided to do what works for you and your family.
Either way, have fun and keep up the good work !

Hey Mike, just do what you feel like doing. I understand about trying to meet a planned production schedule and how it will burn you out. The types of videos you make are similar to mine. Detailed how to videos take a huge amount of effort to make and will never be the kind of videos that "hit it big". However, many of us do really appreciate your efforts.
Chasing the TH-cam analytics will drive you crazy if you let it. Keep up the good work!

I agree with most of the comments Mike. I personally love watching any kind of fabricating.. especially when it’s time lapsed like most of this video. I think TH-cam should consider one very important point I’m going to make. I am new to your channel and have gone back and watched many videos only part way because there are some specific things that I want to rewatch... so that may go against you if I’m only watching 5 minutes of a video. And I apologize for that. BUT ... TH-cam should be grateful that people like myself not only love watching your videos and identify with you but also can go back and rewatch parts that really interest them. ( maybe it’s a welding set up. Or a way you did a templet on your floor board or rewatch how you made your fenders and so on. Anyway I just think TH-cam should consider people will rewatch parts of any video that they want to learn most from. This in no way means people are not interested in watching a whole video .. so keep up the awesome job and remember some people may be hesitant to make a comment but still love watching..you have a ton of loyal supporters and your time is soooo much more appreciated than you will know by so many. Thanks Mike

Dont be dismayed about viewers only watching part of the video. In my case, I want to see the concept, and pick up some tips. I often save videos in a playlist to watch them more thoroughly when I actually plan to make my own similar projects. There is no way I will remember the whole video, so I use it more like reference than entertainment. You should be proud that people get so much useful information from your videos. Sorry if it doesn't ping the TH-cam algorithms the right way for you. I also make comments because I have heard that helps too.

If you are going to be using for snow plowing you will want a wiper on the front and back windows along with some lights or light bars to put light in front and behind you. Some hooks on the tail gate and a spot to hang it on the side of the bed would let you carry it back with you so one less trip out to pick it up and replace after dumping.
Maxing out the space with a project in the shop just shows it is time to look at a larger shop. A sawmill and access to trees would mean the majority of a new shops costs are covered as you can mill posts, beams and siding

Mike I thoroughly enjoy your channel and watch most videos and pretty much watch every minute. You’re pretty much the exception to this but I’m typically a 8-14 minute video guy. Sometimes longer than that feels like there are just to many details. But I can relate a lot with my own channel. When I see an audience retention rate below 40% it’s real difficult to feel motivated. My project videos are by far the least viewed and have the worst audience retention rates and I even keep them about 10-15minutes, usually much closer to 10. Ive thought about trying to have the same conversation with my viewers but I figured none of them would actually care. And your lucky about 10% of your subs are loyal. I’m down at about 2-3% of my subscribers regularly watching my videos.

Careful about fully enclosing it to sturdy. If you ever flip it and get pinned inside it will be like a coffin. At least make sure you can knock out the plexi windshield or have a escape on 2 opposite sides. You could just have a wing nutted panel than can be removed from the inside should work. Awesome build though.

I think one of the reasons your viewer aren’t watching whole videos is your dragging out the fab sequences. Tightening up the fab process so it’s shorter might keep people’s attention. Any of us who have actually done fabrication knows that the process is always much longer than you think it should be but I think that for video purposes just a couple of quick hints at what the process is all about might be to your advantage. But keep sharing your projects with us. You are a master of your craft. And I always enjoy watching somebody who knows what they’re doing build things.

Keep making the long videos! Don’t worry about stats. Which is obviously easier said that done. I also make long videos, and when I edit them I feel like I’m just speeding through most of the important stuff that I’d like to share and convey. TH-cam default video speed is between 200-800% in my case. And it’s a shame, especially as, for me, just the editing will take 3-5 days on average. Let alone the amount of extra time it takes to do the filming. And like you, I get down when I look at the stats and I see people not watching it all. But hey, I guess it’s the loyal ones that count. Please keep making the videos as you see fit. Thanks! 😎👍🏻

I got a few suggestions for you. Windows that open, either a small slider or on hinges like the rear side windows on a minivan. Sometimes windows get steamy and a little venting helps. Maybe a couple of elbow rests, grab handles and most important thing of all, a cup holder. 100 percenter here, sometimes watch 2 or 3 times.

I will never build a vehicle like yours, I will never own land like yours, I will never own a vehicle like yours. However, I love seeing a craftsman and expert creating something from scratch. Keep the videos like they are and I'll keep coming back and staying to the end.

Honestly if you want more youtube videos, do videos on your property and goals and not just fabrication. What's the end goal of having the articulated truck? I think diy is fine if its a hobby, but people tend to like it because they want to build something. If you are trying to be self sufficient, then state that as your goal. People can identify with that. My interest in fabrication is to make machines that allow people to feed themselves. Improving the plight of people. So the skills you are teaching me will help me achieve that goal. Since I started watching your channel I bought a welder and built over center levers with wheels for moving a heavy chicken tractor. I also got steel off of craig's list and built a tabletop for a metal working workbench. Another channel I like a lot is Colin furze. While he makes crazy impractical stuff most of the time, he teaches fabrication skills from a small shop that is quite amazing.
Anyway, making videos only on fabrication tools is kind of boring if you are not in the market for that tool. If you are using that tool to achieve a goal, then its way cool (like the rip nut tool for joining aluminum to steel with bolts)

Don’t concern yourself about viewership so much, being busy and building what you like, showing it to us “thousands” is a great accomplishment. I can’t claim to understand the YT algorithm, but I will sometimes watch 5 minutes, see it needs more attention and continue watching when everyone else leaves me alone.
Just a word of encouragement, I bought the Harbor Freight Vulcan weilder as a result of your videos and a few other tools as well. You put them back on my radar.

I would find space in the cab for a fire extinguisher on the floor and a small first aid kit under the roof.
Just two things you will hopefully never need, doesn't take that much room and is a godsend should you or someone else one day need them.
Also, might want to consider a hinged mechanically linked tailgate, which pulls it down as the bed goes up. Bit of quality of life improvement.

Actually I am waiting for someone to pick on the very thing that you refer to, that the gratuities would be significantly boosted as there are so many channels and some people want to watch all of them. My idea is that you guys would be rewarded for this hard work... well play too or I don't think many would keep doing it. I don't think that a person should have to have a million subscribers to make good money for all the efforts that go into the videos and then we haven't touched editing and that is a real time bandit. I hear the president say we all will have lightning fast internet and that is in a off grid mountain situation so no more driving to a internet cafe to download a thirty minute video in say five hours of watching the sand go through the hourglass. I don't always get to watch anymore because of my health... 73 a couple days ago an about to lose my legs from a injury about four years ago. I live though the work that you younger people do and also wish I were able to do things I did only ten years ago. I guess my pearl of wisdom is to be careful and take good care of yourself or be like me, a invalid who waits for Gabriel's bell to toll.

I find it very interesting to hear a TH-cam creator talk about the side of TH-cam that only they see and the stats related to it. I subscribed to your channel pretty much in the beginning as I developed an interest in milling wood and your sawmill project really appealed to me. I remained a subscriber but didnt watch many of your videos until this project. Now I watch mostly all of your new content with the exception of welder reviews and what not. Every time I see you've uploaded a new video I always take time in the evening to watch it. Keep up the great work!

Great job. Loving the enclosed cab part, giving me some ideas for my old Kubota. Unfortunately it seems that your struggle in keeping folks attention is a common one these days. We used to experience this with our newsletters sent to update our supporter base. Most would not read a the short update, maybe notice a picture or two.

Mike I love all your videos even the tutorial ones. I have been working metal in some sort of fashion for 40 years and I still learn from you young guys. Some of it I may never get the opportunity to use but it sure is cool to watch.
TH-cam, Facebook and Twitter are a mess to navigate right now due to all the censoring. Don't get discouraged by the folks that just want the gravy, some of us like the whole meal and watch to the end. Video lengths are just fine.
    Keep up the good work!

I personally enjoy the process of the build. I'm glad you didn't post a 10 minute "complete" articulating dump truck build...these style of videos are annoying and not realistic, so thank you. Side note, if you can build or find a cheap hydraulic thumb for your mini excavator you will love it. They are great for clearing wooded areas like you have. Keep it up Mike!

It’s such a shame that awesome content like yours isn’t promoted in the same way that click bait crap is on youtube. I get that TH-cam only cares about revenue it makes from advertising, but I wish they would fall back a the tiny bit of moral fibre they must have deep down and understand that they have a obligation to do the right thing and promote educational videos like yours. I love your show and get super excited every time a new video comes out. Do you have a patreon account? If not, that might be worth looking into. If there is any way you can justify keeping the videos coming, there are a few thousand of us who would love that.

Thanks for taking the time to make your videos. I know it takes a lot of time and effort. I am a home fabricator and would love to make videos but it like doubles the time (or more) of the project. I like many appreciate your channel and quality video content. I to can't always watch a video in one sitting (to much else going on at home) but I always come back and watch it to the end. I also enjoy your explanations and detail. Anyway take it with a grain of salt, I'm just some dude you never met making a comment on the internet. Thanks again for all you do, it's informative and entertaining. -Luke-
