Putin tried to achieve the same feat. No long prior air campaign stage before ground invasion nor a huge build up of overwhelming forces like in desert storm. Violence of action was the name of the game, but the Russians understood that a little differently, which can be seen from the results.

      @@thomascambrion4408 True...
But before you start talking about the wrongs Russia did to Ukraine, what caused the war? Did Russia wake up one day and just invaded Ukraine for no cause as America and Westerners are claiming? The outcome of what we are seeing in Ukraine today is the reason why they said war is not good and everything that can lead to it's cause should be avoided, but Americans never did that instead, perpetuated the cause all in the name of NATO and we are in charge of the world and must dictate for the rest... people shouldn't judge one sided... Ukrainian leader was only stupid by listening to Americans and allowing his people to be slaughtered like this even though Russians too died, that's why it is called "war"... all these casualties would have been avoided if Ukraine had play neutrality like Finland, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland and stopped the genocide against it's own people just because they accepted Russian culture. Switzerland is a small country, but there are 3 different languages spoken there with different cultures and no part is oppressed or excluded just because of their heritage. These are what Russia is fighting for... the people that needs to be condemned in this war is not Ukraine or Russia; but "Americans" because they are the cause and they just enjoy evil doings. I would have used America instead of Americans, but i used Americans because they sit back at home there watching the evils their government is doing to other parts of the world...

We're 4 days away from the 20-year anniversary and what's on my mind is... what was it like in 2002? In the leadup? I was only 7 at this time so it's shotty how we got from 9/11 to this, I just remember from papers at the time that there was a lot out there about Iraq as the narrative was spun, I read them during the time period.

I wasn't much older - 9 years old, 10 in July of 2003. However, I do distinctly remember how well people knew shaky the justification for the war in Iraq was, and there was great opposition against it - at least there was here in Australia. It didn't help that our Prime Minister dragged us into the war without even passing it through the houses of parliament, angering a huge amount of people.
People had the feeling that it was America policing the world, striking out at a country it didn't like; I guess that many believed Bush saw Iraq as unfinished business from 1991, as I kinda think today.

The FASB’s recently released standards are grouped below by effective date - those that are effective now and those that are effective in subsequent fiscal years -- for calendar year-end nonpublic companies (that is, companies that are neither public, nor meet the definition of a public business entity). Since the issuance of ASU 2013-12, Definition of a Public Business Entity-An Addition to the Master Glossary, the term public business entity (PBE) has been used to establish effective dates and to scale disclosure requirements for new ASUs. Therefore, all companies need to consider whether or not they meet the definition of a PBE when adopting new standards. While the guidance generally refers to PBEs, and sometimes the effective date for PBEs excludes smaller reporting companies (as defined by the SEC), we have used the “short hand” of “public” and “nonpublic” to refer to the earlier and later effective date buckets.

There's a lot of talk about WMDs not being found today, but for those of us who actually remember the events that took place, Hussein was in direct violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1441. He had a history of constructing prohibited missiles such as the Al-Samoud 2 and importing weapons outside of WMDs, along with not compensating Kuwait. He was required to abide by inspections, which he continually did not do resolution after resolution and could not be trusted any longer. Yes, WMDs were a big part of it, but not the only reason for the invasion of Iraq. What happened after the immediate invasion was a mess and questions of its worth today are definitely worth debating.

The wmd is an intresting question. I mean Saddam kept the inspectors 4 or 5 years away from iraq. You see videos, when the controller came, trucks drove away. A close mentor of Saddam said he had wmd‘s and transport the weapon to Syria.
