    Just about NOTHING in the canon sequels makes sense. This was one of the few that did.
    The 1st order could not have acquired the resources they did if the New Republic hadn't disarmed so quickly, and anyone who was at war knows you do not disarm while you still have an enemy, no matter how small or defeated that is just trying to overtake you.
    Luke, Leia, Han... I'm not going into. It's too heartbreaking.
    If Palpatine was alive or ruling by proxy at least, why did he let the Rebels win so much when he can still bring forces to bear?
    Ultimately, the Imperials abandoning Star Destroyers for more manageable, cheaper and less crew intensive designs as their fortunes turned was one of the few things that made sense.

    • @grayscribe1342
      @grayscribe1342 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@double0bigby I have no idea how canon this is/was, but the old RPG mentioned that the Empire put a limit to the mass/thrust ratio on civillian ships, essentially ordering a speed limit so the best they could do was keep the distance to a Star Destroyer. With the TIE Fighters being much faster, it was difficult to impossple to escape a Star Destroyer.
      That led to problems as the Rebel Alliance had no qualms to boost their ship's engines or get older ships that haven't been modyfied to match the current regulations because they came from scrap yards.
      Smugglers often had to use bribery and forged papers anyway to operate, so they weren't affected much either.

    A star destroyer may be a bit harder to find if they keep on the move, but ports for it are much easier to find. Like defeating an army in the desert, you don't need to face it head on, track down the watering holes and secure them so the enemy is too afraid to attack them. Eventually it'll get so worn down you can attack it for an easy kill. Same with a star destroyer, it's so massive and resource intensive the Republic could figure out ports that could feasibly accomodate such a ship, secure them, and starve out the destroyer. The longer it waits to strike the weaker it gets, and whenever it does strike the forces at that station can notify the Republic where they are and reinforcements can arrive to deliver the killing blow.

    Now this obviously has the downside that many systems will be ignored whilst these men are sleeping, BUT in an emergency you can wake them up and have the ship at full combat readyness in 15 to 20 minutes (25% longer than usual)
    Cut down on ship security, you don't need 10000 soldiers on board, your crew already has basic combat training, so having enough security to keep any hangar and airlocks secure with a few in reserve should suffice.
    Next, automate many systems, yes, the initial cost will grow, but once done you can further cut down on crew, there is no reason why roughly ten thousand peeps should be required to run ~30 turrets, ~tractor beams, the engines, scanning, comms, repairs, tech, medical compartment etc.
    You can cut down in many areas letting you propably only need 2-4 thousand on duty crew to fully run the ship.
    Cutting down fuel is gonna be hard, best thing to do is to decide where you wanna fly, go to the speed you'd like to use and then shut off the engines. You'll keep your velocity, so there isn't too big a downside.
    Given all the crew cut downs, keep two anti-fighter screening ships around you at all time. So even if you are attacked you can delay fighters and are screened against them, or are protected until you can jump away.
    Yes, using smaller ships is certainly more sensible, but, use more of them, cut down on crew and security on each one and instead get more, as well as more variety, (many different ships will make it hard for the enemy to understand each one's role.)
    A single light cruiser with no Escort at all is quite stupid, go for two light cruisers and three or four screening ships as well as a carrier and you're good.

    He should be lucky he was even able to get that ship. I recall in Spacedock's video covering that class of cruiser. The ship yard that built them had been destroyed. The Empire saw no reason to convert a ship yard to build more.

    It would make sense for any rebel Imperial commanders to shift in using smaller command vessels to continue their campaign against The Rebellion..er, I mean, the New Republic. The Arquintens-class command cruiser is just one example and the Empire had thousands of smaller warships in the Imperial Navy. What about ships like the Vindicator-class cruiser? That class is basically a tiny Star Destroyer with even more firepower than an Arquitens command cruiser. Or if some fleet admiral or another former sector moff is lucky, what about Victory-class Star Destroyers or a even an aging Rendilli Stardrives Dreadnaught? Sure, they're bigger and despite being old Clone Wars era warships they could be modified with autonomous systems to help run the ship with a reduced crew size and given more extensive modifications like increased fuel tanks to keep these ships running past the original mileage.
    If breakaway Imperial commanders were any smarter and were not present with the disaster that is Jakku and not partake Operation:Cinder, they'd be smarter to just ditch the Imperial-class ISD and switch to smaller less crew intensive ships and add more automated systems.
    Also here's a big question: I thought moffs were civilian and were only sector administrators in the Empire. How the heck do they command naval and ground assets that would normally be under the command of high ranking admirals and generals? And if a moff is just an administrative title and they're not civilian, shouldn't they include a military rank with it like fleet admiral or general depending on what branch they served in?

    I think for the most part all the star destroyers would've been caught captured or otherwise accounted for if he got awsy with one of these older Cruisers ,what 20-25 year old ship it qas probably part of the mothball Reserve Fleet in storage somewhere out of the side yard or Shipyard and it just wasn't being watched itswhat they can get away with. Like the movie battleship or the Battlestar series reboot. Its museum or training vessel.

    Because of plot armor. Since you can pop out star destroyers with planet killer weapons and a full crew from nowhere by just calling it, hidden and unknown.
    The only reason Moff Gideon had it because Din is a side character in saga and Moff's power was reduced to his level.

    I think the Imperial Remnant hid their remaining Star Destroyers in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy so not to arose suspicion from the New Republic

  • @nickvinsable3798
    @nickvinsable3798 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IF there was any star destroyers remaining, my best guess is that most, if not all the internal components, especially the halls, the rooms, & such, were gutted out & removed. What we’d get is an interior that is as open & spacious as a venator’s central hangar spine, or even a lucrehulk’s hangar arms.
    IF Gideon had any remaining Imperial class star destroyers, I’m more inclined to believe that he’d use ‘em as nearly immobile storage containers that held any & all remaining assets that he’d keep, but most likely would never use because he is lacking the resources needed to make ‘em fully functional & such.
    You can even imagine one being more stuffed than a turkey on tanks-giving because of all the secrets that Palpatine wanted to keep away from the rest of the galaxy & such… TIE Defenders included…

    • @Jfk2Mr
      @Jfk2Mr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On one hand such "refit" would be resource and time intensive, but on the other hand, if you removed/shipped elsewhere facilities used to house and deploy ground forces you have quite a bit of volume for other uses, that could be used to for example increase fighter compliment of ISD up to about 144, or as additional storage

    • @nickvinsable3798
      @nickvinsable3798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Valid, @@Jfk2Mr, but I was thinking more in lines to an Imperial version of the Gallofree transports, such as the ones seen fleeing Hoth in the Empire Strikes Back, took part in the Battle of Endor, and even the battle over Scarif (the one that crashed into the Imperial Star Destroyer that exited hyperspace & such).
      And I did say nearly immobile because should they ever be discovered, it’ll get into position & jump into hyperspace to a different predesignated hiding spot.
      Thus, you have to wonder, where are the Imperial Star Destroyer’s Innards? (Insert cutscene of Deadpool cutting a deal with Gideon on the Milano and saying it’ll be useful for the future of a galaxy far fa~ar away, and probably mentioning that they’re in the same comic book universe… and Star Trek will be joining them soon…)…

    Sense yes and no . The light cruiser is a good ship to use even in the old days . She is better armed than most fast manuvrable. I believe the imperial remnant had more manpower as a home but gideon only commanded part of there combined military. Remember how large the empire was 10 percent full manpower is still millions

  • @amandajas6287
    @amandajas6287 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's actually real-life precedence for this. Generally, you don't want your commanders actually engaged in combat. They need to be near the front, but remain safe enough to command. As such, smaller, faster ships are often used by admirals and the like. This helps them to get where they need to be faster, helps them stay of trouble and retreat faster, and means that ships that are needed in the fight aren't kept out because of their important passengers. Speed and a good communications suite will always be more important to high-ranking officers than having a ship that's super powerful.

    Huh if i was running a Medium sized imperial remnant army (say 27'000) i would go with a Venator mk 2 Defender class and also running our own control point planet outside the republic space doing low tier imperial technologies with the scientist we have been "re-recruiting" or just plain kidnapping with Imperial spy/assassins
    The StormTroopers will be renamed as Remnant Troopers and outfitted with the republics unused/scrapped armour the phase 3 Trooper Armour with bondoilers for ammo mags on the chest, triple glazed plastoid over a thin durasteel plating alloy allowing the armour better protection on all gear except the foot wear and gloves (boasting better then the standard plastoid Storm Trooper gear). The legs are outfitted with knee and thin shin absorbtion pads for crouching and prone in battles the armour is also outfitted with a pouch on the back of the waist belt (belt can be shifted even when on for ease of use) consisting of rations, two water portions, and a miniture pack of bacta aid for squad member or wound, amongs others a thermal grenade belt is also added to carry a extra thermal then the standard 1 when out on patrols or in a fight.
    The Troopers be armed with a new more robust Rifle then the standard E-1 Rifle (a improved version of the Carbine DC-15S used by Clones now renamed by Remnant Armaments Division the DC-18S ( dubbed Battle Rifle by Troopers) with a stock and foregrip for better aim (Laser mags consist of 200 rounds of blaster bolts) retaining a semi fire function for accuracy it also has a full auto function by eiither tap fire for a control 5 round burst or full hold for pray and spray in close range combat. Can be refitted with a Thermal Grenade launcher instead of a foregrip though still the launcher is still in a working phase, the ironsight can be given a holosight or a 2x sight. Has a standard light feature on the rifle much like the E-1 counterpart intergrated inside the foregrip a simple button on the side to activate the function
    The helmet of the phase 3 Trooper Armour was in protophase when the kamino armnants was producing it before being dumped for the standard Storm Trooper Armament the phase 3 helmet has been revitalised by the Remnant Division and is outfitted with the standard issue tech from the Storm Trooper helmets (Rebreathers, Air filters and life support systems for easy outgoings in harsh enviroments and a com link to Remnant Command) it also has been implemented with a on board "Target Aim Assist " to help Remnant Trooper recruits in hitting the targets the system has a target heat sync to help Soldiers in combat against combatants at night it also has a upgraded system to identify civilians when on patrol duties in cities. like its armour counterpart has been intergrated with a light weigth thin Durasteel alloy for extra protection except for certain areas like the frontal visor and lower neck section (padding on lower neck for both comfort and ease of removal) the visor has also a onboard cleaning system (only the visor manual cleaning still mandatory) and intergrated a night vision for (night shift or night time raid) or can just use the standard light function on the DC-18S Rifle (it's recommended to use the light due to the night vision consumption on the helmet battery supply but not mandatory).
    Id do more but be a LONG read like the abandoned Republic Clone base being refurbished from a decommissioned Venator MK 2 Defender and also extensions upon the base, using other parts from the decommissioned ship to build new areas like barracks, housings and Science/technology hub and a major militarized planet after years outside the republic space yeah be pretty much a non-canon Remnant Imperial faction

    I think moth gid was using a smaller ship because he wanted to stay under the radar. a SD is big and leaves a huge trail if having to travel back and forth. but the moth probably did have a SD anchored somewhere. the galaxy is a large place and while many of the loyalist where destroyed. during this time. plenty remained around as well as sd factories where still operational. just in secret. the moth was on a secret mission thus a small finger print is needed. this is why he did not have any use for a SD. his mission was not meant to be a bad ass and destroy everything or take out a few cities. his mission in the sense was to get the project and go back to his base of operations where he was given his mission. the moth still had plenty of personnel and i am sure he kept a SD at his main base of operations. The mission did not require a SD so why use one.

    I would argue something else. One question has always bothered me. How the hell did the Galactic Empire lose nearly 25,000 star destroyer in 4 years. Maybe a quarter, maybe one half, but how could they lose nearly 100%. And we know that the First Order was formed with a limited amount. My belief that there are many, very powerful warlords operating in the Core Worlds and the Unknown Regions. One of those warlords could be Grand Admiral Thrawn. However, like in legends, these warlords aren't loyal to the Empire in general. They were there own splinter groups that had fragmented after the death of the Emperor. And, this would work, as the Core Worlds are dangerous to travel in, not least moving a starfleet to destroy any holdouts, and the New Republic has barely any control over the unknown regions, nor cares due to its policy of demilitarization. How could the First Order rise the the New Republic care about the Unknown Regions Of coarse, it could be something different, but I am just hoping for the Sequel Trilogy erasing theory, so we can pretty much get a retelling of the Post-Imperial era in Legends, instead of the Empire just disappearing from existence as soon as the Emperor died. If anybody else has thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
